Diner Reviews
  • "Food was very good! Be prepared for big servings. Everything was very well prepared. Had the Calamari appetizer. Served with lovely fried bits of lemon which I thought was a surprising and nice touch. The sauce on the Seafood Diavolo Nuovo had an excellent piquant flavor. Make sure you try the tiramisu. Our server was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the menu. They have a lovely patio for those that like to dine outside. We will definitely return."

  • "Calamari appetizer and white wine sangria were amazing! Flavor of grilled pesto ribeye was outstanding, although the beef was a bit tough. Delicious chicken marsala--hard to choose because there are so many tempting options on the menu. Will definitely plan to return!"

  • "1st time visitor, but definitely will be returning. Freindly/pleasant staff, clean, well lit enviroment. Our server was observant yet not intrusive to our needs. Her suggestions on the wine, food and the special of the evening which she recommended and I ordered was very good. What an addition to our City of Independence. We have already recommened this restaurant to several of our friends, neighbors and relatives."

  • "Excellent gnocchi and ribeye. Wine offerings are a little weak but still a few gems. Our daughter always loves the potatoes."

  • "First time going here at Cafe Verona although we have lived around the area for most of our lives and tried all kinds of Italian food places. Seated quickly with great service. Food was excellent. Best we've had at any Italian place. Great desert as well. Will eat here again and would recommend."

  • "I have eaten here many times and have had nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. However, the evening of July 5th was a different story. The food was excellent as usual, but the service was very poor. The restaurant was not busy that evening, so it's not like there were a lot of people to wait on. I hope this was an isolated incident as I enjoy eating here."

  • "Went with a group of 6 people, 2 of which have been to Italy and love wines and 1 who needed a gluten-free menu. All 6 loved the entire meal. We made reservation for 6 but upon arrival, the weather was so perfect and the outdoor patio empty, so we requested to sit there. They were very friendly and accommodating to the change. We had complimentary oil & bread, a Shiraz & a Chianti, calamari (delicious & fresh), and Buffalo Caprese salad for starters! The meals enjoyed included the 4 Cheese shells with chicken, spinach and mushrooms, the Spicey Seafood Diavolo, Sweet corn risotto (Gluten free), and Fruitti del mare."

  • "We dined at Cafe Verona for our Anniversary and it was exactly what we were looking for to make the night special. Everyone was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was warm and pleasant. The food was amazing and the prices very reasonable. It was a wonderful experience!"

  • "The food was not hot although they brought it using hot pads to carry the food. I guess the plates were hot, the food wasn't. The appetizers were terrible. I ordered the grilled prime rib, that was the most expensive item on the menu and I was very disappoint in the flavor and again it was warm but by far to a temperature that would be enjoyable. The garlic potatoes were watery instant potatoes. I would not go back to this place."

  • "Food was great. Wasn't over crowded as it has been in past visits. Service was not the best. She was a sweet girl but I think they had her area too spread out. She was upstairs, outside on the patio and we were seated up front at the windows. Poor girl, how can anyone keep on top of all that!"

  • "This is a restaurant that is off the beaten trail. If you are not from the Independence area it is not likely you will search for this location. We consider this a BIG plus! What a nice place to have dinner. The first time we dined here it reminded us of a quaint Italian place we like to visit on The Hill in St. Louis. Not many places like this left...And the background music is not loud or weird...It is...Wait for it...Italian. We hope Cafe Verona never changes because we know where it is and we love its neighborhood atmosphere. "

  • "This was the 2nd time we have been here, the 1st time being about 4 years ago. The 1st time we went we had a great time, good food, great service, etc. We chose to go again thinking it was a great place, & it was our anniversary. When I made the reservation, I told them it was our anniversary & wanted it to be special. We were seated in a booth by the waiters area, with a constant stream of people traveling through, from waiters to guests. The booth had no ambience or view. Our waitress was direct & to the point, & not personable at all. She took care of us fine. When we got the bill, we were surprised to see a charge for the bread. Have never been charged for bread at any other restaurant. Was not impressed & will not be back anytime soon."

  • "At one time, Cafe Verona was one of my favorite places to eat. It is a beautiful restaurant in an old historic building on the square in Independence. There is an outdoor patio for those who like to eat outside and it is a pretty place. The food is delicious. It was well prepared. The servers are wonderful. My one negative is that the desserts are not tempting. Still a beautiful restaurant, reasonably priced, good service, and food portions make dessert unnecessary. (you're full) "

  • "We went to Cafe Verona for lunch on Mother's Day. Even though it is not close to home, it was worth the drive! Food was very good, service was also very good and we enjoyed our table and the privacy up on the 2nd floor. I will definitely go back again! If there was a negative, it was that the restaurant was a little too cool but every restaurant in town keeps the temperature for the comfort of their servers, not the guests it seems. Next time I'll sit outside or bring a jacket and I am sure the experience will be perfect!"

  • "Who would have thought this neat little restaurant could be found in Independence? It's so quaint and the integrity of the original building has been preserved. The food was excellent and not overpriced. The only negative I would say is when I ordered a 'full' rather than 'half' order of lasagna I expected a larger portion. I wonder what the 'half' order looks like? Otherwise it's a great place."

  • "Went there with my sisters and mother tonight. Service was great; attentive without hovering. I used my KC Originals Discount, which made our end tab extremely low. We ate well, took home leftovers and they were very nice about us staying past the time that they were seating, to visit (I work in the service industry and understand how that can be maddening). Thanks so much for the nice night with my mother and sisters Cafe Verona. (Try the pesto gnocchi with the ribeye. It's great.)"

  • "We dined here for our birthday celebration and had a really good evening. The wine list was very good, and reasonably priced. We ate bruschetta, spinach dip for appetizers. Both were good. For our entrees we had the ribeye with mashed potatoes, ribeye with mac and cheese, the 4 cheese ravioli and the spicy penne. The steaks were perfectly cooked as ordered and were excellent. All of the entrees were very well presented, hot and very tasty. Dessert was the dipped gelato and little doughnuts with raspberry sauce. Excellent as well. We all agreed we would go back. This is a very moderately priced restaurant with good food."

  • "You simply must try the pesto gnocchi with grilled ribeye. It's the absolute best thing I've ever had at Café Verona. It's quite the staple in our order every time we visit. Wednesday is 1/2 price wine night which always adds a nice touch to the evening. We've been numerous times and have had wonderful experiences every time. Issues are slow getting drinks and quick getting courses of food, but not terrible issues in the grand scheme of things for dinner service. We wouldn't recommend the "homemade" dressings they've recently started - blue cheese and ranch were both very watered down and didn't pack much flavor or punch. Nice to have this option in our backyard on the Independence Square. "

  • "We decided to give Café Verona another go after our wonderful experience previously to see if it was a fluke or not. It was not. This was another outstanding evening full of flavorful food, delicious beverages, and great service. The only downside to the evening was the speed of delivery of food. Ordered an appetizer, arrived within minutes, quickly followed by salads - we hadn't even finished the apps! But that's a minor thing compared to other issues there could've been. Food wise, I completely suggest the gnocci with ribeye steak (but include the toppings from the ribeye steak option on the menu) - delicious! My husband had the mac'n'cheese with grilled chicken. While I thought it looked bland and one-note, he said it was good."

  • "Our 1st return visit to Cafe Verona in quite some time (had really been displeased with previous visits). Finally decided to try it again and we were impressed & thrilled to have such a wonderful experience. The table wasn't ready, so we had a seat at the bar when we arrived, but the bartender was very accommodating to our special orders. Once seated, the service didn't disappoint. Quick service, attentive and knowledgeable - everything you expect from a fine dining establishment. Again, special requests were accommodated and even encouraged. It was an absolutely delicious dining experience and we'll be returning to Cafe Verona soon. If you haven't been to the Independence Square and tried it, you simply must go. It's worth the drive."

  • "We enjoyed the quaint, enchanting environment of this local Italian restaraunt. We were a little nervous about the menu as we are not fine diners and were unfamiliar with the Italian words. My husband doesn't like venture out past the Olive Garden. But we both found selections that were very pleasing, and the food was worth coming back for. I loved the environment, and all the staff were very friendly-but not so friendly that they were annoying. I appreciated that our waitress never once interrupted our conversation to check on us as we visited through dinner."

  • "I went there with my boyfriend on Valentine's day. When we got there the reservations were behind so we weren't sat till 9pm, which I understood. When we were sat the waitress took our drink order. I didn't receive my coke with grenadine for literally 30 minutes while my boyfriend received his beer about 15 minutes earlier. In that 30 minute wait i didn't see the waitress at all. After that, when we got our food, the waitress asked if we wanted some shredded parmesan and we both said yes. She never returned with it. Never came back to ask how our food was and never once seen the manager. You would think a manager would be going around asking guests how everything is!!! Other than the horrible service that we received i did love the food."

  • "We dined on Valentine's Day. We were seated early, had a nice table by the front window and was greeted at our table by our waitress. The sangria's were good -- special drink for the evening! I would definitely suggest the spinach salad with walnuts and cranberries. Our entrees were delicious -- I loved the tortellini!! Beautiful place to eat and outstanding food for the price. Can't go wrong eating here!"
