A word from Cafe Troia
Cafe Troia was established in 1986 by the Troia family, natives of Naples, Italy. When you dine with us, rest assured that you are eating foods that meet a higher standard than the USDA - ours. Our natural veal is fed a diet with no artificial hormones or antibiotics. It is humanely raised by family farmers and is carefully traced from the farm to the table. These same standards apply to our other meats: chicken, beef, lamb and rabbit. The eggs come from Springfield farm and our fish is usually wild caught. When possible, we purchase local produce to endure its freshness. All this is nothing new, this is the way we have operated for 23 years which is why we have such a loyal following.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "From the food to the service, this dinner was perfect in every way!"
    Dined on 4/16/2014
  • "Cafe Troia has been providing great food and exceptional service for many years. This is hard to find in a neighborhood setting. For those who hate noisy restaurants, this is a great place to enjoy great dinner conversations with friends or family along with good food and wine."

  • "Café Troia continues to be one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Baltimore. We had a party of 6 and everything that we had was excellent and on time."

  • "This is a nice, quiet, romantic gem in the heart of downtown Towson. I have lives here for years and had written it off. From start to finish, every aspect of the meal was done with a sense of pride, professionalism, and a confidence in the quality of their kitchen. I will definitely recommend to many friends and visitors."

  • "Fabulous waiter and hostess, delicious appetizer, salad, and entrees.... crème brulee was divine, too. Ambience was lackluster.....décor and seating feels dated and a bit dull. For the price, I guess I'd prefer a bit more energy and fun people-watching."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "When Troia was across the street, the food was better than average. We were disappointed. The change in chef has not made it better, and it is overpriced by a lot. The bolognese sauce on my pasta was bland and almost gummy because the meat was so mashed. The dish was not worth even half of its $21,00 price. The soup of the day, a vegetable bean, was no better than a canned soup, lacking in flavor and texture."

  • "We can always depend on Cafe Troia to give you a lovely evening of dining. We enjoyed the rockfish and the superb chicken ravioli. The homemade gelato was delicious. Most of all it is such a friendly place from the greeting of the hostess to the attentiveness of our waiter. We shall definiely return."

  • "Freezing cold temperatures made the entire experience ridiculous."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "We were seated in the lower level-heat was broken, so very cold. Appetizer was cold...disappointing for a steamed mussel dish. I got a shrimp dish on special. It was good, but portion was extremely small., and whole wheat pasta was substituted without waiter letting us know. Bread provided was stale. Needless to say, didn't have dessert."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Prices a little on the high side. Try going for lunch instead of dinner."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "The first time I went here we had a great meal, so much so we wanted to go back. This time however the service was a big turn-off. It took about 10 minutes after we were seated to order wine...then another 10 before we were approached for any food/appetizer order (so we ordered all at once). We were never asked about appetizers, explained specials, or how the food was. The red-velvet soup was pasta sauce in a bowl with some shallots. The salads left us wanting. The dinner food itself wasn't too bad, but the desserts seemed to come pre-made. All in all, I wont be going back."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Although the lunch was good enough, the portions were quite skimpy, The customers would feel more satisfied feeling they were treated generously. Because the place did not have many full tables, the wait staff was overly eager to increase the orders."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "Food has gone downhill since our last visit a few months ago. It was good, but nothing special."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Very romantic little neighborhood restaurant with so much potential. Steaks overcooked to the point of well done when medium rare was ordered. Lobster over cooked. Would have sufficed to dip those dry chunks if meat in drawn butter but there was none offered nor lemon or bread for that matter. We didn't bother sending it back because we were starved and it was very busy. Annoyed that the table next to us seemed to get better service and served their meals before we did."

  • "We went here for Valentine's Day and the staff was absolutely fantastic. They were very helpful in surprising my fiancee with flowers at the table and helped set it up after I dropped the flowers off ahead of time. We arrive at the restaurant to find our table tucked into a quiet corner with the flowers displayed just perfectly! Our waiter was fantastic as well, having a great wine suggestion after mentioning my first choice was out of stock. Overall, it was a good experience. Food was very tasty and well cooked. For dessert, the tiramisu is the first I have had in a long time to actually use alcohol (in this case rum) for flavor and it was very very good. A little on the pricey side, but not terrible. Great value nonetheless!"

  • "My first time dining at Troia and will definitely not be the last. The food and service were outstanding. I am looking forward to coming back to try many of their other dishes. The veal and lamp chops were cooked to perfection and the portions were amazing."

  • "We went for Valentine's day. The food was pretty good. We had the crab cake and chicken. My boyfriend has a Cosmo and said it was the worst he's ever had, however my lemon drop was good. Dessert was awesome-brownie with toffee ice cream. Service was slow ans the waiter was blah..not much personality and didn't check on us much. Over all it was nice and I would go back and hopefully get another waiter!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "This was my second time to this restaurant. We each had fish from the Valentines' Day menu. The food was perfect, the atmosphere quiet, elegant and comfortable. I quite like it a lot and will return."

  • "This place made my wife and I feel like we were Dating again and really created a spark for us. The food was outstanding and the wine list was extensive and well priced. A hidden secret in Towson"

  • "My husband and I go to CAfe Troia each year for this holiday but many other times as well. Friendly people and great food."

  • "We've only visited Cafe Troia once, so its possible we were there on an off night when the real chef was away. Its also possible Cafe Troia is overrated. Our food was average at best. Be prepared to pay 2 times more than you would at Macaroni Grill for a comparable meal. Much better food is available at places like Sotta Sopra and Cinghiale for a similar price. Service the night we dined at Cafe Troia was slow. The server was very nice, but the overall management and pacing of the meal was odd. Perhaps they were short staffed. Cafe Troia isn't terrible. But the reviews paint a misleading picture. If the prices for entrees averaged $14 instead of $28, I'd reconsider my rating. But when you pay $100 for 2 people you expect more."

  • "When we first got there, we were kindly greeted and the hostess took our coats (this was different). The food was great, we asked the server for a recommendation (we're not picky) and both dishes ended up tasting very good. The atmosphere was formal and not too crowded (is was a Tuesday night). The server was very kind, polite, and helpful. We will be back!"

  • "Food, as always, was outsanding. Service and attentiveness from staff was off a bit Saturday night"

  • "I parked in the private lot next to the restaurant and unfortunately I didnt see the pay to park kiosk. When I returned to my car an hour and fifteen minutes later my car was up on a tow truck with the shady driver demanding $125 in cash to put it down. It was worse than being held up in the street. I wll never go back to Towson again for any reason. It's a shame because the restaurant was very nice and I enjoy some of the other businesses nearby but I wont take the chance of getting robbed by a tow truck driver again. I've told all my business associates that you could be in for a very expensive lunch meeting if you go to Towson, better to go downtown or Timonium where your car will be where you left it."

  • "Very nice, great ambiance. Delicious italian food."

  • "We had a reservation, thinking this would place us in the main dining area, and when we arrived we were sent to the downstairs (Siberia) dining room - and were alone. I asked about waiting for an upstairs table, but the hostess/owner told us quite curtly that nothing was available - even if we wanted to wait at the bar. So much for reservations. Fortunately, the service was super - I think the staff was trying to make us feel better about our placement. We love a whole dining experience, along with a convivial atmosphere of folks enjoying food and drink, so this didn't quite live up to our expectations. The food was good - but not great considering the prices- so I don't think we'll be going back."

  • "Food was wonderful as always. Walter was our server and he was attentive, friendly and outstanding. The noise level was bearable and better than most restaurants. all of our expectations were met."

  • "I've eaten at Troia's many times over the years, and my single piece of advice is don't let them seat you downstairs. It is next to the kitchen, and with the connection doors and tile floor adjacent to the dining area, it literally could not be any louder. I'll go back, but only for the upstairs!"
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "We enjoy the Cafe Troia experience occassionally, because we know the service will be good, and the food, although rather pricey, is always great. Our visit this time was no exception. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who desires really good Italian food served in beautiful surroundings."

  • "We booked for an early New Year Eve dinner. As usual, staff were courteous and attentive. I ordered ceasar salad and steamed mussels. The appetizer size was plenty. I was a bit disappointed with the mussels, a bit small and difficult to extract from the shells, due in part to the absence of the appropriate fork, an unfortunate oversight for a restaurant of this caliber. I found the entertainment a bit overwhelming. The fellow at the keyboard was somehow able to text while singing! I would not avoid the place due to somewhat pricey items. Not often one can find Dover sole."

  • "The food was delicious but a little bit pricey. I noticed an extreme jump in price from braccioli to the ossobuco. I understand an increase but 50% more? It would have been nice to have a side vegetable included with my braccioli but I guess they consider the thin layer of spinach within the dish to be the vegetable. The front exterior is lacking. Very office building type of entrance that does not showcase the great food inside. It was great to utilize their complementary valet service which took the headache out of worrying about parking in that part of Towson."

  • "My wife and I spent a wonderful evening dining at Cafe Troia. It was our anniversary and we could not have had a better experience. The service, ambiance and food were all first rate. The osso bucco was as good as the best you can find in Italy."

  • "We savored and relished each morsel, really not wanting our tummies to get full so our mouths could continue their swoon! Appetizer: Piatto Misto, Salad: Insalata di Arugula con Fragole (arugula with strawberries, fresh pancetta and a pear vinaigrette to die for!), a mushroom ravioli that was a combination of filling and fulfilling with every morsel. The four of us split three desserts and I must confess that the tiramisu was the best I've ever had. But the lemon napoleon is something I would order at the end of ANY meal. Wines were decent and reasonably priced. The service was delightful, courteous, humorous, and with good timing and table sensitivity. I recommend this restaurant for a nice night out and am looking forward to returning."

  • "Everything we has was good, but not great and the prices were high for what it was. My crabcakes were shelly, salad blah, calamari fair and salmon was overcooked. The orachetti with sausage was pretty good. Did not have desert."
    Dined on 12/1/2013
  • "This restaurant is exceptional. The wait staff were extremely professional and they listened to specific instructions regarding food allergies. I will definitely return for my next special occasion."

  • "The chef and menu has changed at Cafe Troia and it is no longer the great restaurant it used to be. Six of us ate there this week and no one thought it was nearly as good. The bread is different - dry and crumbly mystery bread instead of the fresh crusty French bread they used to serve. The pasta dish described as scampi was really a brown sauce poured over shrimp and a glob of pasta that was all stuck together at the bottom of the dish. I speared the pasta with my fork and was able to pick up the entire mess in one piece. To be fair, the shrimp were large and fresh, but the dish itself was horrible. And I started with a Caesar sald which was good, though unremarkable and very small - yet it was $9.50 for the salad."

  • "We have been going to Troias for many years with OK meals. We heard there was a new executive chef and wanted to give it another try. We ordered the calamari and it came out cold, which really affected it's taste and expectation. The rest of the meal was over done with garlic. The owner/manager came by our table and barely asked how our dinner was. She seemed to be in a big hurry. There's a reason it is empty in there on a Friday evening while you can't get into other restaurants. We hope they are able to get it together sooner than later."
