Café TrioCare Trio's Fantastic ServiceI go to Cafe Trio about 6-7 times a year for various occasions - happy hour with friends, business lunches and dinners, special celebratory dinners, and even celebrated my birthday here a couple of times. The food and drink are not to be missed, but it's their servers that make this Kansas City restaurant outstanding to me.
On my most recent visit, I brought in an eight-top for a work lunch. Jody - who has been our server before when we had a 20-person business dinner - was again friendly, efficient and detail-oriented. He had the swordfish special and i had the snapper. I had the brussel sprouts ( sooo delicious) and he had the spinach salad (loved it). Service was great, wine was great, food was excellent. If the weather is nice, be sure to eat on the deck. It's a great place to have dinner and wine and look out over the plaza. We have always found the food very good and they always make sure we get our food in time to get to the theatre. The waiters are always friendly and the food is always good. When we were seated, it was in the covered patio section and there simply was no air flow and it was hot, stale, and stuffy. We selected our drinks and menu options only to find out the kitchen was out of all the steaks except the filet and the bar was out of the Bombshell Martini. How does this happen on a Monday? I guess delivery day was Tuesday or something. Anyway, our server was super nice, busy, and took great care of us and the food we did get to have was excellently prepared and full of flavor. Only wish we could've had what we originally wanted instead. However, the noise level is very "loud." This is my only complaint..... The positioning of the piano in the middle of the main floor dining room, while attractive, and the music is always good; there is the piano music and people talking over the piano, which makes a very noisy dining experience. You cannot hear others at your table trying to have a conversation. The atmosphere on the other-hand is very dim lighting; an almost Hotel Regency experience with great ambiance. The Patio is always pleasant.
The entire venue, bartenders, servers, staff and food are always exceptional! A Kansas City favorite! The ambiance is one of the nicest anywhere with an array of different seating options. Their bar service is excellent with their mixologists knowing just about any drink you've ever heard of.
The food never disappoints. If you do have a problem, they're right on it to make it right. The servers are very attentive without being interruptive. Additionally, you never feel rushed to leave, something nice for lovers just getting to know each other and wanting time to talk.
The views from the covered deck are wonderful, overlooking the Country Club Plaza.

Both times I was catching up with friends, and we were not hurried in the least. In fact, we all felt really pampered by our servers. We ordered a series of small plates and as each one came individually, we were given new dinner plates. (And if you say you are going to split a glass of wine or another drink, they bring the drink in two separate glasses.) That is exceptional service! The servers are very friendly in a genuine way, and attentive without hovering. They really want to make sure you feel comfortable and do a great job of taking care of you. Easy to get in at 5 but noticed it was filling up by 6:30. Items of note include the lamb lollipops on the small plates menu which were superb, cooked to correct rare temp, with seasonings not overwhelming the delicate flavor. Crab cakes which are always a good choice. Wild mushroom ravioli was very rich that most of it went home for another meal. If you love rich chocolate desserts then you have to try the chocolate spoon cake that comes with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Another choice is the creme brulee cheese cake, yum! Service was attentive, friendly and helpful with choices. We are looking forward to trying the outdoor deck when the weather is nicer.
