It's not on a main street, but nestled in an alley that, for someone not familiar with alley streets, would be difficult to find. We were fortunate to find this "diamond in the rough". The food was perfectly prepared and very tasty. The waiter was very outgoing and allowed me the opportunity to speak Italian for the evening (which is something that I don't get to do much anymore). The restrooms are downstairs, which may be a challenge for some. I have recommended this place to everyone that I've come in contact with since. If you are in the Financial District, please try Café Tiramisu. The price is right and the food and service are second to none...5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA hidden gem in SFBooked a table here for Mother's Day, and was so delighted Cafe Tiramisu had reservations available day-of. Come here quick before it becomes so popular that's no longer feasible! Our food was outstanding - very authentic, delicious Italian - and the patio seating was an ambiance highlight. Only things I'd change were the time it took our food to come out (we had a very leisurely, 2+ hrs European dinner) and the fact that workers from other Belden Place restaurants smoke in the alley on breaks (something my sense of smell occasionally picked up).

Best gnocchi in San Francisco. All homemade pasta is wonderful. It is equivalent to a 4 or 5 star NY Italian restaurant. Being an ex-New Yorker, I have found the Italian food here in SF very ordinary and pedestrian. Cafe Tiramisu has finally given me a great Italian I can rave about to friends. We had two appetizers - octopus with zucchini capparcio and kale caesar salad, both beautifully presented and fantastic. I had the best veal dish since my last trip to NY. My friend had the seafood salad, which was usually prepared and absolutely delicious. My other friend had the short ribs and loved every morsel. Terrific dessert to try "Three Vanilla". Service attentive & friendly. Fabulous extra dry martinis. The food was excellent and the service was great. I just wished that we were sat somewhere further inside the restaurant. Sitting by the door was a bit chilly whenever customers come in and out. Everyone one in my group was delighted with the food, which is saying something because some have very high expectations. We had two people ask for significant modications to a couple dishes because of personal preferences. The changes were made without hesitation and the quality of the different version was superb. A couple people were so impressed with side dishes on their meal others asked for these as additional side dishes for the group to share. Outstanding, gracious service. Also, we had a 9 year old for whom the waiter made slight changes to a ravioli dish to his delight. All this with a very reasonable price.
