A word from Cafe Spiaggia
As the more casual sibling of renowned Spiaggia, Cafe Spiaggia has come into its own as a favorite dining destination for locals and visitors alike. In an artful, warm setting featuring reproductions of 15th century Italian murals, the contemporary Cafe serves dishes reminiscent of authentic Italian sidewalk eateries and trattorias. Chicago Magazine said, “This stylish Cafe sends out lively versions of regional classics…topnotch handmade pastas, fine main courses, and the best tiramisu and ice creams in town."Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Cafe Spiaggia was delicious! The bucatini is to die for, as are the meatball appetizers. Definitely a must try!"

  • "Some of the best ingredients I've tasted at any restaurant. We're from the Bay area and I'm in the food business and I always like to stop in for dinner when in town. I've never been disappointed. The gnocchi were as good as my grandmother's. The staff was very cordial and professional."

  • "Food was excellent. Service was top notch without being over bearing. Knowledgeable about the different dishes and wine."

  • "We just happened to have that warm and cozy feeling to the comfortable interior when Mother Nature released quite a storm outside of those spectacular windows! A room with a view that provided a (safe) entertainment value in addition to our exquisite meal! Keep up the great job! Bravissimo!"

  • "We have dined at Cafe Spaggia on almost every trip to Chicago over the past eight years and have never been disappointed. A reliably great menu, well chosen wines and some of the best gnocchi on either side of the Atlantic make the Cafe hard to resist. I'm already looking forward to next time."

  • "Highly recommend the Polpette (meatballs), Barbabietole and Ravioli because they were all so delicious. In fact, we placed multiple orders for the meatballs."

  • "The room is wonderful in its layout, decoration and lighting. The service is superb. But the food is truly outstanding. Only the very best and most creative chefs can execute a simple standard like carpaccio or a crudo and layer it with ingredients that are novel, seasonal, and add layers of complexity, flavor, and texture. Between us we had 5 dishes and one was better than the next. The prices and the portion sizes were both really reasonable. If we lived in Chicago we would return often, and we will return whenever we are in town."

  • "First the outstanding food: ricotta with radish and asparagus served in a tiny jar with crostini - fabulous; roasted radish salad - great; pasta with garbanzo beans and pancetta, pork chop with polenta - both wonderful. We have never been disappointed in the food. However, our last two visits, the service has been bad. In April, it was fair, but this week, it was horrendous. We had to flag down our server for pretty much everything. Also, although I made this reservation weeks ago and requested a window table, we were put in a corner and ignored. Not a good way to welcome back repeat diners!"

  • "Cafe Spiaggia offers a limited menu of quality dishes prepared in the kitchen which it shares with the more expensive Spiaggia Restaurant located on the same floor. Items we ordered were generally tasty, well presented, and priced moderately for the location. A nice selection of Italian red wines started at about $60 a bottle. On Tuesday evening, this informal place was not very busy."

  • "Didn't realize the cafe and the restaurant were different when we made the reservation. We thought we were going to the restaurant until we arrived and learned otherwise."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The service was very good and we had a nice table by the window. It just wasn't great. We wouldn't go back. The only complaint was the olive oil that they serve with the bread was really bitter and my husband had terrible heart burn that night. We were celebrating our anniversary and they printed "Happy Anniversary" on the menu which was a nice touch."

  • "Wonderful selections of food and wine. The dinner was superb and the wine selection remarkable. A truly wonderful dining experience at a great price."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Food is always spot on... Staff always friendly... Go for the gnocchi, signature dish in my opinion. Try everything."

  • "Cafe Spiaggia is a great find. The food was excellent and the prices reasonable. Management was very responsive in taking care of an issue with some other very loud guests. We will be back soon."

  • "In the top 5 Italian restaurants at which I've ever dined, including those in Italy! Wild boar ragu w/ gnocchi is unsurpassed."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Our last couple of meals at Cafe Spiaggia have been disappointing--it's like the chef is phoning in the performance. The standards--like the gnocchi with wild boar ragu--just haven't been executed well. My bucatini with guanciale and Calabrian peppers was swimming in a very underflavored sauce. Won't be returning until the place gets its mojo back."

  • "The food at the recently renovated Cafe Spiaggia tastes as wonderful as the new decor looks. The room looks great. The menu is small but serves great dishes from all of the food groups. We had the ravioli in pesto, the Amish chicken (half a chicken!) and the crab/seafood pasta and a fritto misto. There were 2 clean plates and since the chicken portion was so large, we left with half the bird. All entrees were delicious and beautifully plated. As always a great bread selection and we had a trio of gelato, chocolate hazelnut, raspberry and a chocolate chip with banana. You can make a meal here a leisurely as you want as our waiter never rushed us to leave our table. I would recommend to all."

  • "The food was good, but my radish salad was disappointing. It didn't taste like anything--there was no tang or complement of flavors, and there was a strange, tasteless aoli on the plate that I didn't know what to do with. For the pastas, the cacio et pepe or the gnocci is the way to go."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "We had a great experience. Nice table/view. Outstanding food. Attentive waiter. Quiet atmosphere. Did not feel rushed. Would definitely go back."

  • "When my cousins were in town from Austin five years ago we had a dinner they remembered at Cafe Spiaggia. We were joined by more cousins for whom it was their "first time". Our meal in 2014 was perfect. Two had the tagiatelle neri, two the spaghettone, and one ravioli. The polenta was a dish to pass for the table. Portion sizes are "just right", flavors are robust but delicate, service was most attentive, plates were cleaned. Wines are available at a variety of price points. Cafe Spiaggia is fine dining in bit less formal, intimate setting. We had a very special, comfortable, most memorable meal. I suspect when my cousins come again they will ask to return!"

  • "My family and I have been going to Cafe Spiaggia for years and we have always been beyond satisfied. The food is absolutely delicious, and we always end up stealing bites from eachother! Also, the service is wonderful and incredibly kind. If you're looking for a good meal in the Windy City, by all means, check out Cafe Spiaggia!"

  • "Cafe Spiaggia is one of my all time favorites. The food, view, service is among the best in the city. This visit the view was still fantastic, the food was down a notch and the service was really second class. Our waiter seemed very distracted and bothered to wait on us. I will go back as we have enjoyed it so much over the years but I am worried."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "Great food with lots of personal attention. Not quite as pricey as its main restaurant, but actually more quaint. "
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "The food is terrific and the service was okay (waiter had too many tables), but the noise level was off the charts. A couple of large tables with enthusiastic drinkers should have kept me away. It will next time."

  • "As usual, the most reliable Italian food in the midwest. Excellent quality and much better than Eataly venues which I tried twice the same week and similar in price. "

  • "A friend and I met up here for a nice dinner together, having not seen each other in years. It was a lovely spot, and the food was excellent, fresh, nicely presented, much enjoyed by both of us. Would only have wished for a few more choices of a vegetarian nature, for my friend, to give her a wider selection. We would both definitely come back another time in Chicago. Right on N Michigan, so a nice walk to get there."

  • "Nice ambience and great location. Ordered the gnocchi and was okay - it was tasty, but too salty and over cooked. "

  • "so we had the beet salad a lot of ppl recommended and it was just fine. the meatballs were amazing as were the polenta. random, but just do it. order the polenta. wild boar gnocchi was fantastic, pizza was fine. i would absolutely go back and know to order certain items because they are worth going back for! also, i know the place is in an office building, but i promise when you get inside the restaurant you will forget all that."

  • "I made reservations at this restaurant during a recent trip to Chicago to celebrate both my husband and Father in Law's birthdays. I was very excited and looked forward to the experience all weekend. This was by far the worst meal I have ever had in Chicago. Our waiter had to be reminded on several occasions to bring our drinks and bread. The prices were extremly high for what we received ($18 for 4 pieces of ravioli that were about the size of a quarter) and our food was cold and under cooked. We were extremely disappointed by our experience and will never return to this restaurant."

  • "We wanted to eat at Spiaggia, but it was closed for remodelling, so we ended up here. Food was very good, but I would say that the ravioli dough was rolled out too thickly. It should have been quite a bit thinner. Our server was great. "

  • "Dinner was fantastic. Spiaggia has a high attention to detail in their food. I've always said if you don't like something you haven't had it prepared properly. I think Spiaggia is the place to prepare it properly. The arugula salad was commented so well with the balsamic dressing. The crab meat really stood out in the squid ink pasta- tasted light, & fresh. I loved the homemade pasta. "

  • "We have eaten at Cafe Spiaggia many times over many years. This time was very disappointing. Poor service, average food - no one seemed to care. Very unfortunate - used to be our go to place for lunch or early dinner."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "Hadn't dined at the Cafe Spiaggia in well over a decade. Four of us went for an after theater meal on a Sunday night. Place was crowded (though our table was waiting). Service was on point and the food was perfect. All of us remarked about not wanting to wait another 10 years before coming back."

  • "You can always depend on Tony's food! A great variety of handmade, delecate, al dente pastas with delicious sauces as well as outstanding small plates and salads. Charming atmosphere with extremely knowledgeable and friendly service. Always a great night here!"
