Diner Reviews
  • "The perfect place for my mother's 92nd birthday diner. She loved the mixed seafood entre with a delicately fruity pinot gris. But most of all she adored her birthday cake, prepared just for her by the pastry chef. I had called ahead to work out the ingredients: a soft vanilla sponge cake with almond custard and fresh strawberry filling, topped with whipped cream frosting and more fresh strawberries. Light and creamy--her favorite textures. My mother declared it the best birthday dinner ever."

  • "We had a party of 8 and everyone enjoyed their meal immensely. From the appetizers to the main course everything was great and the servers were very friendly and helpful. The steak Diane and lamb dishes were outstanding."

  • "I love the quality service and excellent food at Cafe Soriah's! One of my favorite places to dine in Eugene!"

  • "Our first visit to the restaurant accompanied by out of state guests. The ambiance and surprise interior were delightfully received by all of us. But our reservations were at 6:30 pm and we did not get served until after 7:30 pm. We were patient, but getting hungrier and increasingly antsy as the wait time grew. Once our food arrived, it seemed dry like it had been sitting for a while. The restaurant was very full and I'm guessing this may have been an unusual situation where they had more guests than anticipated with not enough servers to accommodate the crowd."

  • "We both had the steak Diane, and it was everything others have said about it. Absolutely wonderful. The best steak I have had within 500 miles. Prepared by the owner, a few feet away from us. Excellent spinach salad. Service excellent and knowledgeable, if a bit slow (the restaurant was filled). Since I am quite hearing impaired, the high noise level and small size of the restaurant were problems, but they were mine. Others may find that a plus. Overall, quite possible the best dining experience in Eugene."

  • "Delicious food chosen from a menu that was full of other amazing choices. Soriah is a great place for a special occasion, where you can actually hear each other talk without shouting. The main courses we tried were all perfect, the dinner salad fresh and of baby greens. The desserts all looked mouth-watering - we chose one to split between us which was the perfect closing to our dinner. The price is on the high end of where I would dine in Eugene, but worth every penny."

  • "I absolutely love love love whenever I have the opportunity to eat at Cafe Soriah! The food is absolutely delicious, especially the Steak Diane. More often than not, you can even see their head chef cook your Steak Diane and your flambéed desserts nearby. I simply have not had one dish at this restaurant that wasn't absolutely phenomenal...if you are looking for a special date night spot, this restaurant is a great choice. It is a smaller restaurant though so be sure to get reservations!"

  • "Food was magnificent! Steak Diane to die for! From the creative cocktails to the outstanding calamari (which will spoil you from wanting to eat it anywhere else) to the robust menu -- it was a wonderful evening. A visit from Ib, the owner, and the Spanish coffee was perfect ending!"

  • "Steak Diane is easily my favorite steak in Eugene. The beef almost melts in your mouth as you bite into it. Everything on the menu is great. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff."

  • "We had read some positive and negative Yelp reviews so weren't sure what to expect. From the moment we walked in the door and they mentioned my name it was a truly outstanding experience!! The staff and the food could not have been better. We will recommend Cafe Soriah to others and return ourselves."

  • "The hostess was clearly poorly trained/overwhelmed and rude. Our waitress was excellent and an asset. Food was very good and the music was way too loud. Made the reservation one month ahead and was seated next to the bar; not romantic."

  • "It was Valentines day and I made this reservation a month in advance. Whe I got there I was seated at the worst possible table... Inches from a noisy espresso machine and the check in counter. Hardly a romantic evening surrounded by a large group waiting for their tables. Our table was in the bar area. With a reservation made so far ahead i expeced better. The food was good but not great. I had a steak that was a little tough and overdone with a side of very basic mashed potatoes. I doubt ill be back."

  • "Soriah's is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The interior is small and intimate. In good weather the outdoor dining patio is light and cheerful. The food is always superbly prepared and presented. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable about food choices and wine selections."

  • "One of the most pleasurable places I have ever eaten! The steak Diane was so well cooked and tender packed with flavor and my wife had the Salmon. She says that she has never had better. If you have never been there then you have no idea what you are missing. Oh and something I really enjoy is that the Owner himself cooks your steak in the dining are."

  • "Maybe this place is too crowded on holidays. I've been here before and enjoyed the food and atmosphere but not so much on valentines day. The food was good but not anything I'd outright recommend. I had a delicious cocktail called Pearadoza and the bartender was a lovely young woman. Overall my experience was just OK."

  • "Reserved a table for six for a 70th birthday dinner. I let the restaurant know about our special occasion when I made the reservation but they did nothing to acknowledge it at all. I'd heard about the Steak Diane tableside presentation and encouraged one of our guests to order this dish but apparently no one working that night knew (or wanted) to make the effort. We also ordered wine and one of our guests was not offered a glass or served until we asked. All that aside, the food was very good and our waiter was polite. I'd go back for the food at lunch prices but expected better overall experience for a $300 dinner."

  • "We had a lovely quiet dinner with excellent and friendly service. Nice atmosphere. A bit too pricey to eat here very often for a retiree like me, so I save this for a special occasion. Our salad was amazing, bread was extraordinary, our entrees were the special mushroom tortellini with great flavor but seened to be re-heated - the pasta was definitely not fresh and tender.. Surprising for the $17 entree price. Definitely will come back as overall experience was good."

  • "We visited Soriah to celebrate our friend's recent engagement. Unfortunately, our table was not ready, and we had to wait about 20 minutes in the bar for another patron to leave. We all ordered drinks, and waiting is not really a big deal, but there is not much room in their bar to wait comfortably. When we sat down, we ordered the calamari and Baby Trio(hummus platter) for appetizers. Everything was gobbled up! I ordered the Shawarma special, and thought the lamb was dry. The accompaniments on my platter were good, and it came with a glass of wine and dinner salad. My husband ordered the ribeye, it was huge, and cooked perfectly! We will return in the Spring when we can sit on the patio!"

  • "Althought the dining room is a bit crowded, this is always a pleasant dining experience, with capable and personable staff, great food, and the proprietor is typically around extending his hospitality and culinary expertise. I'm not a very adventurous eater, but I'm never afraid to try something new at Cafe Soriah!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary with a small group of family and friends at Cafe Soriah. As always, the service was excellent, the food delicious, and the ambience warm and inviting. We were fortunate to sit next to the small bar where Ib Hamide, the owner, prepared the more elaborate dessert dishes. Our table engaged in friendly banter with Ib, a kind man and gentle man with a great sense of humor, throughout the meal. Later, we were delighted by the pyrotechnics as he prepared Bananas Foster Flambe for our dessert. And finally, we were surprised and very touched when he gave us the dessert as an anniversary gift. It doesn't get any better than that..."

  • "This restaurant had lot of great reviews but the food (taste) did not live up to all the expectation. The restaurant was cold and table small. We were party of 5 and were given a small table that was already cramped for 4 people. The bar side of the Cafe was much warmer and had better ambiance."

  • "First time dining at Soriah. The food was very good but nothing reached the "outstanding" level. As a meat eater I liked the menu but there were limited vegetarian choices - more than in many higher end restaurants, but not as many as might be desired. The descriptions given by the waiter were first class and made everything sound fantastic. The food was indeed good, but not quite up to the hype from the descriptions. That said, I would like to go back and try a few other things on the menu. None of us had any alcohol so I can't comment on it, but the bar and drink menu looked interesting. Prices were reasonable. The biggest issue was parking -- we tried to park in the lot next to the restaurant and it is very small and tight. I"

  • "From entrees like Steak Diane and Salmon du jour that will make you weep with joy to a variety of sumptuous Middle Eastern and vegetarian dishes you will never dine better in Eugene than Cafe Soriah. The master chef and owner, Ibrahim, still masterfully flames cherries jubiliee and bananas Foster there for you to see and enjoy even before you succumb to the sublime joy of the desserts themselves. And before dinner, enjoy a drink at the wonderfully cozy bar with a great bar menue that easily suffices for a light supper. The staff are always impeccable, professional and very friendly, and in the Summer, the back porch is outdoor dining at its best. Just go. You will be so glad you did."

  • "Cafe Soriah has long been my wife's and my favorite place to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and to show off Eugene's best to visitors. The menu has a Middle-Eastern focus, but has many other choices as well. On this visit, the menu had a number of new choices. Service was friendly and attentive, but not intrusive."

  • "went with my family. my son has a nut allergy and they gave us bread with walnuts in it and never said there were nuts in it. My son found that out on his own (fortunately was ok). They were not very apologetic or sympathetic. It took an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive. Again, not apologetic or sympathetic. I would not go back to Soriah or recommend it to anyone after our experience. The food was very mediocre, at best."

  • "Pleasantly surprised by cheerful, attentive service and very good food. Owner/chef on site and cooking table side in dining room. Playful banter between staff and owner felt like being welcomed into their home. Small space, obvious many of the diners were regulars. For good reason. 3 of us ordered daily specials (salmon w/ pear chutney & saffron rice, stuffed lamb chop, crab & leek ravioli in tomato cream sauce) and all were delighted with our selections. 4th ordered chicken and duxelles in puff pastry off regular menu. All entrees served with the same side of sauteed (?) vegetables. I don't know how they did it, but the veggies were silky and fresh with a little crunch--worth the trip alone! Will be back when we visit Eugene next--so good!"

  • "Service was extremely slow and non-attentive. A simple dinner took over 2-1/2 hours. Took almost 30 minutes before getting greeted by the waiter. Never got an apology from the waiter when the dinner took so long to come to the table."

  • "The food we had was very tasty, well-prepared, and filling. The service was somewhat erratic. After the appetizers, we waited quite a long time for our entrees to appear. And we were initially charged on our bill for 2 of one appetizer, when we only had one. I'm glad I caught that, and the server was apologetic for that happening."
