First time diner at this restaurantThis was our first visit to this restaurant. Its located nearby the Farragut West Metro station. The Hostess / our Server - Yanett was very personalable and attentitive. My wife and I had pasta dishes - Shrimp Primerva & Cafe Soleil Penne. Both were quite good. Despite having a time crunch - we had a theater show to attend, Yanett did a great job of keeping the pace of the food & drinks on-time and we didn't feel rushed. Good food and service, will be back for another dinner and show next month.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst timerEven though this restaurant is only one block from my office I had never eaten there until last week. I love salmon and my lunch was very good. I especially liked the fact that we were seated inside but felt like we were outside because we had a table next to the floor to ceiling windows (really doors) that were open. I would definietly eat there again.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best to take a dateI have been coming to Cafe Soleil for years now, but they once again exceeded my expectations the other evening with a wonderful meal and professional, but friendly service (George). While I used to regularly stop in for a drink at the bar on my way home from work, I now come less often, but almost always on a special occasion or with a date. Just can't miss. I try and reserve in advance and score one of the two small tables next to the French doors which are open to the street in the spring and summer. While the view out onto 17th street is not the most romantic, the people watching is great and the cafe does its part generating an international feel.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMNice medium priced French BistroFound Café Soleil on Open Table for a Saturday evening dinner. Menu included a number of French and other dishes that were reasonably priced for a mid-town restaurant. Dining room opens to 17th street with a few outside tables but with 90 degree temps we stayed inside with open view to the street. Littleneck clams in wine broth with capers, parsley and garlic was unusual appetizer if you are a caper lover. My wife had the Maryland Crab soup special as her appetizer and it was a generous bowl that was very good. We split a wedge salad that was also excellent and plenty for two. I had a Tuna entrée that was cooked perfectly at medium rare with a slightly sweet sauce but unusual with wilted arugula and sautéed ginger that were great sides.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent place for a powerExcellent place for a power lunch, in my view. Open air, good food, good ambience.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThird visit to Cafe SoleilThis was our third visit to Cafe Soleil. We do not get downtown for dinner much though Steph does work downtown. All three visits have been for dinner prior to attending an event at the Kennedy Center. I found Cafe Soleil on Open Table the first time in searching for a cafe close to Metro and on our way to the Center. Love the ambiance. It is a gem city in the hustle and bustle of a main street. We have always enjoyed the food. Last night I had the lamb shank and Steph had the filet. We started with a great Ahi appetizer. The shank was excellent and Steph's filet done perfectly. Service is outstanding, we promptly greeted and seated at a table next to the open French Doors. We will be back next time we are looking for dinner downtown.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food when there are few optionThere are not that many nice places in this area and we were looking for something for before a show at DAR Constitution Hall. We told the server we had a show in 1 hour and he was great. We each had a glass of wine, apps and an entree. The server was very accomodating to our time crunch. It was noisy and the tables are close together, but it still felt intimate and good for a date-night. Way better than the PotBelly option across the street.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming French CafeCafe Soleil is a very pretty little restaurant with the ambiance and menu of a French cafe, with good service and a lot of food options from sandwiches to bistro fare. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and although it's in a hotel it's not a typical hotel restaurant. It was a great option within walking distance of DAR Constitution Hall, conveniently located right at Farraget West metro station. A great find for us so we'll definitely be back.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great and theThe food was great and the food was served quickly. The only issue was the server, she was attentive, but not in the way we're accustomed to in restaurants in the same price range.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCharmingFun, positive energy, great happy hour service, friendly staff, convenient location next to Metro station.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMttastyStopped for lunch. very . Waitstaff struggled a bit to get to tables regularly. Food was very good.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were excellent.Food and service were excellent. A diamond in downtown DC.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice restaurant-- goodVery nice restaurant-- good wine and food. We especially enjoyed the flatbread.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food. Good Service. As tourists in an unfamiliar town, Cafe Soleil was wonderful find. The service was very good, as was the food. Though limited, the menu offered a variety of healthy and appealing options. The noise level was moderate allowing conversation, but there were periodic interruptions as tables were crammed together requiring adjustment of chairs when other diners were arriving or departing.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food - Improve serviceFood was very good and our server was working very hard. only saw two servers all night and very little help for staff. At times we had to wait and food was not hot when it came out. Other server did not tend to tables well and did not show any sense of urgency that it was busy.
Part of our order (dessert) was forgotten by kitchen and was going to take 10 minutes longer to make after we were able to get servers attention (other two people already had finished dessert).3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice ambience, but tooVery nice ambience, but too expensive. Food was good, but not amazing. Service was excellent.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMNice spot for late diningWe dined late, after a Smithsonian lecture, and the initially crowded and noisy dining room cleared and quieted markedly by the time we finished. I greatly enjoyed the spicy Shrimp & Grits entree while my girlfriend had a couple appetizers, including a nice baked brie. Her appetite perked up as we ate and she ordered the Lamb Shank, which she rememberd fondly from earlier visits, to go and reported that it was delicious the following day. Cafe Soleil is convenient for Metrorail and an easy place to catch a cab.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA great find in DCWe tried this spot for an early dinner before the theater. The dining room is charming, but the tables are a bit too close together for my comfort. Our server was excellent and friendly, and we found some great choices on the wine list. Dinner was delicious. We had the ahi tuna app and a Caesar salad, and then the halibut entree and the shrimp primavera. Definitely a place I would return to......maybe for Happy Hour next time. The bar area looked very inviting!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful serverWe had a wonderful server and the chef special was excellent.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boyfriend and I orderedMy boyfriend and I ordered two grilled chicken salads. Those are delicious, yummy but they're big plate! Hostess friendly & helped us out. Of course, it's kind of crowd when it's lunch time hour. So do we! Take my advice, go there and enjoy it while you can!1/30/2013 12:00:00 AMCafe Soleil is outstanding!Cafe Soleil is outstanding! Foods are delicious! Services are fantastic tasks! Customers and Service are outstanding and good behave in public. Of course, it's noise because it's lunch time hour while we were there. We ate the grilled chicken salads and soup of day: chicken & veggie soup (homemade), yummy! We drank their sparking water from France, lovely!1/4/2013 12:00:00 AMVery convenient to both FarragutVery convenient to both Farragut West and North Metro stops. Delicious food.
