  • "The food was great and service was excellent. I didn't like the mousse for dessert, but other than that, the meal was excellent!"

  • "My first trip to Cafe Soleil was a great disappointment. The tables are crowded together to closely making conversation very difficult over the extremely high level of noise. The surfaces are all hard, contributing to that. My entree was uninteresting - not inviting, and not well presented on the plate. The location is great, the reservation process went very smoothly."

  • "I lofe the ambience at Cafe Soleil. It has the feel of a real French bistro. And when the weather is nice and the front doors are open to fresh air, it's really wonderful. The service is typically good as well. But the food never quite lives up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong. the food isn't bad by any means, but it's just ok. It could just be a much better overall dining experience if the food were better."

  • "Cafe Soleil makes a great, convenient middle-downtown DC venue for rendezvous with friends - it's an elegantly appointed, efficient, friendly, well-run restaurant with a diverse slate of savory menu items. There's something for everyone, whether you're an omnivore, vegetarian or pescetarian. The service is exceptionally attentive but not overbearing and the kitchen is amazingly quick - our food came out not more than 15 minutes after we ordered it."

  • "After working in the Farragut Park area for nearly 10 years I went to Cafe Soleil for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Wish I had gone earlier. It's a small restaurant but the staggered tables provide some privacy, and the staggering indicates that they are thinking about the diner's experience. The service was attentive and well-timed. First place in a LONG time that the server waited until we were both done before asking to clear the plates. Frankly, I'd go back just for that. But in addition the food is quite good. I enjoyed my lamb burger and sweet potato fries (although the bun lacked the strength to make it through the meal) and my dining partner liked his burger. The little roll to start was also tasty."

  • "Food was predictably good, service wasn't its usual excellent. The restaurant which was a wonderful place for a business lunch has gotten too noisy. I think there was no thought given to noise when they added a few additional tables. First the front was too noisy and now the back is too noisy for a comfortable conversation."

  • "We have scheduled two lunch meetings this week alone at this establishment as it is a good central location that's close to our office and the food and service are always good."

  • "My friend and I went for a late lunch... while no one was there to eat; the spot was charming and cozy. They have daily specials. We had the crab stuffed salmon with mashed potatoes and asapargus. Asparagus wasn't cooked properly, however the lobster sauce was ok with the medium cooked salmon and mashed potatoes. Waitor was professional and didn't OVER bother us while we talked and caught up. I liked the place being a foodie, I would have loved a BIT more flavor to the food. Still would go back for date night. Nice find and 1000 is always a plus!"

  • "After a few bumps in realizing that the happy hour specials don't apply to the main/al fresco dining area (it would have been nice if that had been posted or explained online), we had a full appetizer-entree-dessert meal. All of the food was decent, but nothing truly wowed us. Our server was very nice and extremely accommodating."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our early reservation time for Friday Night, Date Night! Recommend a table by the open air wall of windows.... The best of both worlds... Inside , yet al fresco:) The halibut was divine. The service was excellent !"

  • "We chose this place because it was close to our hotel. We arrived at 6:29 PM for out 6:30 PM reservation. There was no hostess on duty and we waited approximately 5 minutes before the waitress noted us standing there and seated us. Food was ok, but nothing special. Restaurant was nice, but really loud. My husband and I had to yell across the table to each other and the restaurant was 1/3 full (bar was busy though). We sat in a side booth, which was adequate, but noticed they had 4 tables crammed together in the center. No one was sitting at them at that time, but not sure how they would have fit everyone if the place had been full. Would not go back."

  • "Nice atmosphere. Quaint "bistro". Good food and good service. They have a very nice feature where the windows open to the street for semi alfresco dining."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "When we arrived we found out that our reservations were given to someone else but we got our table in just a few minutes. Had to wait for our order a little longer than expected but the food was good."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Scheduled business lunch; waiter slow to provide drinks and had to be hunted down to get a refill. Also never came to table to see how things were which caused us delay in obtaining condiments and meal getting cold. Then gave our bill and credit card back to another table. Food was excellent and the ambiance is quaint and cozy."

  • "When they rearragnged the tables a while ago it much noiser in the front room. Will only go now if we can sit in the back which isn't great but is better. The point of lunch to have a conversation with the person(s) you are with over a good meal. Now doing that is impossible in the front room and I am a fan of this restaurant."

  • "I love Cafe Soliel. Perfect for a nice dinner where you can actually hear your dining companions, and moderately priced for an intown establishment. Really is a gem in my mind. Usually can find street parking avail on L St after 6:30pm. So even better."

  • "We were traveling with our children and chose Cafe Soleil due it's closeness to the Metro stop. Food was very good. I had the Chicken penne pasta which was in the house made sauce with many different vegetables . My wife had the roasted chicken and mashed potatoes which was slightly over cooked but had a very nice taste. Overall a very good dinner and recommend for those traveling through the DC area."

  • "The service was friendly and attentive. The tables are a bit close together, but the food made up for the lack of space. The lobster ravioli was delicious. Went for lunch, plan to check out happy hour next to try more of the small plates."

  • "Dined on a Wednesday evening about 5:30. Mid-way through dinner I noticed it had become so loud, I could not hear conversation at my table. Service was very, very good. Food was delicious, but my steak was very difficult to cut with a steakknife. In addition, there was so much fat throughout the steak, I left 2/3 of it because I was tired of fighting with it."

  • "I took two of my co-workers for their birthday lunch. It was a great day, so the windows were open and we were fortunate to have a table close by. The food was delicious, service excellent and the atmosphere friendly and not too loud. We had a lovely time !"

  • "We had an enjoyable lunch at Café Soleil midday on Saturday. The floor-to-ceiling windows were open so it was like outside dining indoors. The ambience truly reminded me of a Parisian café. I think it would be a great place for a quiet lunch on the weekend! We did not sample the wine, but the wine selection appeared to be substantial."

  • "A good selection of good salads. The much-praised crispy brussel sprouts weren't crispy--a bit undercooked. Molten choc cake had a disappointing packaged taste to the cake."

  • "The service was very slow. Somebody had a birthday. They turned off the lights and the candle was a sparkler. It was impressive."

  • "The restaurant is in business due to location only, not due to great service."

  • "The food quality was just unbelievable. But the service was just poor. The waiter and waitresses have no clue how to treat the customers right and professionally. "

  • "Perfect little spot near the White House for a pleasant lunch. With a breadth of well-prepared menu items and experienced staff, you can have a great quick business meal or linger with a friend. Easy location to meet up as it's next to the Farragut West Metro stop."

  • "Great place to bring your clients if you work in downtown DC. The menu has very classic, yet delicious dishes which is perfect for a wide range of palates. "

  • "Cafe Soleil never disappoints. I had the shrimp and scallops kabobs and my friend had the pine-nut encrusted salmon. Both were delicious. The waiter was fine with our request to split a salad and brought it on two plates. Service was invisibly perfect."

  • "It's always a pleasure to dine at Cafe soleil, always...the quality of the food is consistently good, the menu is good, the service is above par. I love the tables at the front of the dining room...nearest the sunshine."

  • "Understaffed. We constantly Waited for drinks and had to ask for refills. The food took too long and just ordering took a long time. An otherwise great evening rewened. No host to greet you, buss boy also did room service. And two very overwhelmed waiters. :("

  • "We were looking for a nice restaurant that was close to the Hampton Inn with great atmosphere. Even though we reserved our table on Open Table they were not that crowded. Was a little disappointed that they were out of a key ingredient in their signature margarita, Absinthe. I settled for their $5 happy hour margarita which was actually very good. My Wife and I each had the salmon with arugula in a light cream sauce which was very good as well. I liked the cozy atmosphere. You do sit close to the person at the next table but that didn't bother me. I would recommend dinning here."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Unusually poor service - we did not get served for quite a while even though the restaurant was not busy. What's more, the waiter had no idea what was in the veggie sandwich. Still, the house wines are excellent!"

  • "Amid the rather impersonal business milieu of the Farragut Square area, Cafe Soleil is a real gem. It maintains its character and charming bistro atmosphere, with welcoming service and excellent food at reasonable prices. The service was prompt, but you're not rushed to finish and leave. It's always a reliable favorite."

  • "I go to Cafe Soleil every month or two and always find it to be a pleasant experience. The service is good, the food is always excellent and beautifully presented. The menu changes from time to time. One of my favorite places. I can go and won't be surprised. I've never had a bad meal there. Great atmosphere too. Worth a trip!"

  • "Cafe Soleil is a warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant located just steps from the White House. We visited on a cold rainy night and the friendly staff and warm comfortable dining room made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The menu is creative without being overly adventurous. I had pistachio encrusted salmon and my dining partner ordered the stuffed pork chop. Both were well executed. The salmon was perhaps a bit over cooked, but both dishes arrived freshly prepared from the kitchen. My favorite of the evening was definitely the tomato and crab soup. Cafe Soliel is definitely worth a revisit for the soup if nothing else."
