Cafe Sevilla - San DiegoGloria, my server, was great.Gloria, my server, was great. Very friendly and helpful. The hosts were also very professional and courteous.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat themed bar/restaurantCafe Sevilla is a neat spot in the Gaslamp that's packed full of atmosphere and character, and the food matches the fun environment. My girlfriend and I shared the meat lovers tapas plate and enjoyed each of the four quadrants included! We also tried a couple of the different Sangrias made here and liked those; the Sangria Royal was our favorite! Our waiter was awesome (very attentive, energetic, and helpful), and the whole experience made for a great way to start our joint-birthday weekend together. We'll definitely be back again to try out more of the tapas.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGo during Happy hourIt was a unique experience for me and my boyfriend. We were looking for a place to have dinner and decided to try this place. We were drawn in by the decor and the idea of trying out tapas. Being first timers, our waitress was great and suggested a few items. Everything was great. We liked the tortilla tapas and loved the beef ribs which we ordered as a meal and shared. Each tapas plate seemed expensive and would have added up pretty fast and so didn't try out that many. We were looking at the main menu and didn't realize we were there during Happy hour. The prices were better during Happy hour and we would have ordered more to try out. We will definitely go back and be more smart about our orders.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant in Gaslamp QuarterI took my girlfriend to this restaurant for her birthday, and the restaurant honored my special requests. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and the service was excellent. The restaurant is pretty loud, so don't expect a quiet meal. The food was authentic and tasted wonderful.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOur FavoriteWhen we go out to San Diego, it is always a struggle to decide between Sevilla or trying somewhere else. Sevilla usually wins, so we are pretty ignorant of the other restaurants in town even though he have lived in the county for over two years.
We prefer traditional Spanish Sangria and Tapas. Too many places try to go fusion or gourmet-ify things. We like to keep things as traditional as possible.
Not inexpensive, but still our favorite.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Spanish foodExcellent Spanish food. Ambiance abit tired and distracting from the great food. Loved the lamb chops!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA good time had...Food and mood of the place is great. We sat next to the stage this time dedpite requesting upstairs seating. It was a graduation night and it was very busy with all the grad groups. Considering this, the service was attentive and timely. The wait person was a bit stressed but never waivered from making sure we were good throughout the night. We had a pither of sangria, seafood paella, and the olive loaf.... All highly recomended. Topped the night off with salsa lessons. That was the only downer... The instructors headseat/mic was not working and we couldnt hear him. Still, it was nice to dave with different, beaitiful girls with each switch... Fun!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeI brought my wife here for a special event. There was great food and service. I'm from San Diego, and this is one of my favorites.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time!!!My time with my girlfirend at Cafe Sevilla was splendid. We enjoyed an array of dishes and drinks. It was my birthday and I had been looking toward experiencing something different for the day and this place hit the spot . So much so that I am thinking about going to Spain just to experience their atmosphere. Great time at Cafe Sevilla.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best Tapas places. One of the best Tapas places. The sausage plate was fantastic!!!! The Tamarind Margrita was awesome!!!!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific placeI love this place! I bring family and friends when they come to San Diego and they love it. We always have to go back. They make you feel comfortable and ambiance is great. Live music on the weekends. Usually its Spanish guitar. We have not had a bad experience or anything that we did not like on the menu.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMcafe sevillalove the restaurant...food...ambience. Service is a bit slow....but that's just like Europe. :)5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFree UpgradeWe had dinner reservations in the main dining area for three people on Saturday night. As a result of a last minute cancellation in the dinner theater area where Sevilla produces its Flamenco shows, we were offered seat in the dinner theater area at no charge. Normally this is $47.50/person for a prix fixe menu. We were allowed to order a la carte from the normal dinner/tapas menu. As ususal the food was great. But receiving teh show at no additional charge was awesome.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI love Spanish joints andI love Spanish joints and Cafe Sevilla did not dissapoint. Very hip, great decor and excllent feel good music. I read reviews before coming so was a little concerned about good service. Guillermo our server was the best thing about this place. Man, was he johnny on the spot with everything and really took the time to make sure we knew the menu and had a great meal.
Nothing dissapointed in this place. The Paella was not the best I ever had however it was good and the table enjoyed it. If you get a chance to bring a small group here, do it.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner and salsaA lovely time... We arrive at 6:30 and chose to sit upstairs as this was a date for 2. The hostess was polite, courteous and smiled at us warmly. She did say that upstairs would be best for as she could see this was a date nite for us and did say it would get noisy later on. Our waiter was also polite and friendly and ran through the items of choice and we went with a tapa that was really good... I think it was called the Tortilla de papa somethin somethin:).
We had a pitcher of Sangria and a loaf of french bread. We had seafood Paella and was absolutely wonderful! Around 8 pm., it was getting noisy but the energy in the place was fun and We finished with the cocolate cake and coffee. We took the salsa dance lessons. A must! So much fun!!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExperience Tapas with a SoCal/ Mexthe food was Excelent, the Southern California, Mexican influence was very evident. the Quality superb, the wine list was vey good and the place was fun, energetic and very worth the visit.
Make reservations unless you like to wait...5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNoisyFood was great ! Service was really friendly and server knew her menu perfectly.
The band was nice but just a little too loud ! Had to stop talking to my partner a few times because I wouldn't even hear myself talking !
But overall, really nice place and I would definitely recommend it.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVibrant scene_sensational eats!An exceptional experience. My wife and I were seated immediately...we chose an outdoor table under the heat lamps. The waiter was excellent...his recommendation for a flight of sangria samples were spot on. The pear and liche(?) sangrias were outstanding. The signature bleu cheese filled dates (wrapped in bacon) were a true delight...a perfect complement to their statement El Matador margarita. The pan seared scallops were tender and tasty. But the braised short ribs with manchego potatoes...simply amazing and full of taste. That alone was worth the visit. My wife basically ate half of my plate. (smile). We even had a chance to go downstairs to the night club and dance some of the night away. Just a terrific meal and night out.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding foodExcellent food as usual. First time at new (?) location. Sit outside if you want to hear what your dinner
companion is saying (ok I am getting a little old). The tapas and paella were outstanding. A little pricey
as you can easily drop $150 on 2 people (even with limited alcohol).5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a good enjoyable dinnerAlways a good enjoyable dinner experience. I do think that if you are eating at the restaraunt, you should be allowed downstairs at no charge. Love cafe Sevilla!!!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great time orderingHad a great time ordering from a vast menu of tapas and paella. Will definitely go again the next time we're in the area.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good tapas spot. AReally good tapas spot. A lot of variety. The tapas are very authentic. Our favorite is the bleu cheese stuffed dates. They also serve traditional Spanish entrees, such as paella, along with a variety of sea food, pork, etc. The paella was outstanding. We have always found the service to be excellent. The value was quite good. Cafe Sevilla has live flamenco music several evenings a week, starting at about 9 pm. The is a large area downstairs with the music stage and bar. We ate upstairs in the dining area. The music form the bar was a little loud. Other than that, a great place. We vacation annually in San Diego and we Cafe Sevilla always have dinner there.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI had been to Cafe SevillaI had been to Cafe Sevilla many times at their old location and this was the first time at the new location although they have been there for more than a year. The new location is very nice and the music, wait staff and overall the client mix was very pleasant and I had a great dining experience. The wine list was just as complete as I remember. We ordered some mojitos to start and they where a bit of mark, but the main reason to go to Cafe Sevilla is the food. Our tapas where great but the main dish, Paella Valenciana, lacked a bit of the flavor full experience I expected and recall having at the old location. I appreciate the fact that our reservation was for 9:30 pm but we where running late and they still received us. Good Job.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's a bit loud, but the foodIt's a bit loud, but the food is good enough to endure it. Our meal for three was $65. Two of us were full and the other was "just right" so I think that's a good estimation. I never forget to order the seafood crepe. The empanadas, short rib and spanish sausages are very good as well. Happy hour at the bar 5-7, I think, will help with the bill. I'm not a big fan of sangria but I can recommend the mojito!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTop-rate tapasWe loves tapas bars, and found this place on busy Fifth Ave in San Diego's Gaslight District. The place was full of energy, with diners ranging from couples to groups of 6-8. Service was fast and the food was brought out quickly. The selections were presented nicely and tasted wonderful. Would certainly go back the next time we visit.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dinner - wide varietyExcellent dinner - wide variety of flavors with attentive service. Only down side is location - Gas Lamp District has no parking so be prepared for a hike.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Tapas Restaurant! The best place for small plates/tapas/cocktails. The food is excellent, and they have a wide variety of items to choose from. Kalamata Olive bread is a must!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellant Spanish food! This was our first visit and we loved it! We shared 5 different tapas dishes and all but one were delicious and we'd order them again. We started out with the tuna ceviche - it was our favorite of the night. Also tried the empanadas - they were great! The fig/cheese flatbread was terrific - had the lamb, which wasn't so good as it was overcooked, but our waitress was lovely and more than willing to return it to the kitchen and take it off our bill. We also had the pork belly, which, if you like pork belly, I guess it was pretty good; not my favorite but then, I'm not the one who ordered it! All in all, a very good place to eat and drink. We will definitely return!2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service are alwaysThe food and service are always first rate here. It's hard to find a restaurant downtown where you can satisfy your appetite (which is pretty hearty in our case) without breaking the bank. Cafe Sevilla is definitely an exception to the rule in the Gaslamp Quarter.1/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had as nice of an experienceWe had as nice of an experience at the San Diego location as at the Riverside location though SD is smaller. The food is always excellent and well prepared and the servers are polite and friendly A+1/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, lots of choices.Wonderful food, lots of choices.
