Diner Reviews
  • "Love it here, been going for years - the corn tapa brings me back every time "Maiz Asado" > Corn on the cob with crema, Cotija cheese, lime, chile dusted...... but the $40 pitcher of Sangria was only ok."

  • "My son lives on W 74th so we are in the city OFTEN. First time here and loved everything about it. Will definitely be back."

  • "I have been to Ronda many times and have come to expect fantastic tapas and great drinks. This week, I joined a friend for a table outdoors. The food, as always, was great. The cauliflower and albondigas were awesome. The lasagna was out of this world. But the service during this visit was so off; it was distracting. I am hoping this was a one time issue."

  • "Everything including grilled octopus (which was nicely prepared) was served at room temperature. The paella for one was an appetizer sized portion at best and was lacking a "crust" i.e. it was soggy. If I were to return, which is unlikely, I would stick to the tapas which were all tasty."

  • "I love eating at Ronda. The waitstaff is the best. A little Sangria, a little octopus, and I am happy."

  • "Cafe Ronda was excellent, from the menu to the service. The staff was extremely accommodating and there were no issues through our dinner service. Flawless."

  • "I have enjoyed Cafe Ronda for many years, and always looked forward to sharing one of their paella's with friends. I loved the one with black rice (squid ink), and that disappeared from the menu. This last time, there was no paella at all, a huge disappointment. I realize they were commemorating the World Cup with a Brazilian menu, which was excellent, but my primary reason for visiting Cafe Ronda was their paella. I hope they bring it back. The service is excellent, and the food is very good, but...."

  • "Delicious dinner and I had to have another order of mouthwatering empanadas!"

  • "Very carefully prepared, nice selection, our vegetarian was thrilled with the codices. Lamb-veal meatballs particularly good. Desserts were also excellent."

  • "The food and sangria were great. It's alittle noisy inside but worth the trip. I will be back soon!"

  • "We had a great meal and the staff was helpful, pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately our next table neighbor was speaking very loudly about what an important businessman he was, punctuating every other phrase with a colorful swear word, and we were dining with our tween daughter. He doesn't reflect on the quality of the restaurant, but he sure put a sour finish on our meal. I'd like to visit Cafe Ronda again sometime without the jerk factor..."

  • "I dined in this restaurant before and had the best paella. I was so disappointed that it's no longer on the menu since it's a Spanish restaurant. Also the didn't have the wine that my friend wanted though they did have it last time. The food that we ordered was good but nothing special. I had better taps in other Spanish restaurants in nyc."

  • "Went here once two years ago and really like it. This time around it was not very good. Menu changed and frankly makes no sense. 1/3 of the dinner menu is actually the brunch menu that you any order from. They got rid of paella and now offer burgers, which is odd for a tapas place. Food was mediocre at best but mostly not very good. Waiter forgot to bring us bread, forgot glass if wine, had extra item in check we didn't order, then took 15 min to correct that and only 15 min b/c I got up ton talk to the manage since we hadn't seen our waiter for 15 min. "

  • "This was my first visit to Café Ronda. The restaurant was smaller than what I was expecting but it was still inviting. I was looking for Spanish cuisine and found them to have a great tapas list. I was looking forward to the paella but unfortunately the paella was removed from the menu and not offered. The tapas were very tasty and I would come back again for them. I hope they offer paella next time."

  • "The food is still very good. The only disappointment is that they took Paella off the menu. We were told that is temporary, really?"

  • "Excellent Tapas and grill but noise level prohibits conversation."

  • "We live nearby but our first time for early Sunday dinner (empanadas, skirt steak, salmon, dessert) - in and out just under one hour because the hard seats and small tables were very uncomfortable. The menu online listed paella but there was no paella on the dinner menu at the restaurant. I did like the food and it was enough for two of us, but portions are not generous - the rest of our family have bigger healthy hungry appetites. With no upbeat vibe or a comfortable ambiance inside to compensate, I would probably opt just for tapas and wine sitting outside (when sidewalk construction ends!) "

  • "The food was great here 5 months ago. The menu had changed significantly. No longer any paella option on the menu (probably the best and most popular dish). The first two drinks we ordered were satisfactory but the second were much weaker. Because of no paella and a scarce entree selection, we decided to order tapas. The food had no flavor and was not what we were expecting due to our previous experience. We couldn't eat there any longer and finished our dinner elsewhere. After asking, we were told that the restaurant has a new chef and is under new management. The only positive was the friendly staff and that is not enough for us to return to this restaurant. On top of all that, we were served cold bread and never received any tap water. "

  • "I've lived in the neighborhood for 6 years and just got around to trying Cafe Ronda. I can now add it to my list of go-to places. You can do tapas or a regular meal. The cocktails are fun and beautifully presented. The food is food, tasty and priced well. The vibe is good-high energy, casual. The service is mixed-they seem to be in a hurry and then forget all about you. The food came out in backward order-appetizers after the heavier choices. But overall, a good neighborhood place. "

  • "The table next to us had the strip steaks which smelled amazing - but couldn't resist ordering a bunch of small plates. Next time I'll try the steak."

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at La Ronda before an early show at Lincoln Center, which is six short blocks away. We tried three different Spanish red wines. Four of the small plates were surprisingly large-- fried artichokes with aioli, roasted cauliflower with marcona almonds, mushrooms in sherry, and a tiny eel-like fish that looked and tasted more like pasta than fish. The bacalao croquettes were on the bland and bready side, but everything else was absolutely delicious and obviously made to order. The service was charming, and all the young servers seemed to cover all the tables so someone was always paying attention. The outside of the restaurant is uninspiring but once inside, it feels very much like Spain."

  • "Great neighborhood place, romantic ambience. Staff extremely welcoming and caring, asking often if you're enjoying. Great chorizos, shrimp/clams in green sauce, octopus. And the waiter was very knowledgeable in recommending wine by the glass, as we needed both red and white. Martinis however seemed a bit watery."

  • "My friends and I were scrambling for a spot to host a last-minute get-together. Thanks to OpenTable, I was able to quickly secure a spot at Cafe Ronda. When we got there, we were seated promptly and attended to quickly by our friendly server. The food was delicious; my favorite was the chicken and chorizo paella and the ice cream sundae, clearly homemade. We also enjoyed the appetizers and the sangria was a much-needed salve for our brutal week. All in all, great experience and we will be back soon!"

  • "We were looking for something inexpensive yet different. Little did we know that Cafe Ronda would fit the bill and then some. The small tapas dishes we expected were more like individual servings at other restaurants. Everthing was cooked to perfection & I'd highly recommend it."

  • "I've been here once before for brunch and I loved their baked egg dish, so I decided to come here on a date for dinner. The reviews for dinner on Yelp weren't very encouraging but I thought I'd try it anyway. I very pleased. The waiter recommended specials were excellent and so were the tapas. The only reason I gave this place a 4 star rating and not 5 was because I felt like there was something missing in the ambiance. It seemed too much like a cafeteria and less like a restaurant. Would definitely come here again."

  • "Tapas were really good. Sherry was outstanding. Only complaint is noise level - very lod due to many tables ina small space pushed close together"

  • "First keep in mind it was New Year's Eve. We were a party of 7with 3 kids in our party. The waiter was a little harried and mixed up our order a little bit. It wasn't a big deal and we realized it happens. The food started out great except I felt something hard while I was chewing my spinach salad. What I found was a hard sharp piece of clear plastic. I was a little freaked just thinking I might have swallowed it and it could've done some damage. I didn't say anything because I know the waiter was already stressed, I should've though. After that I was entirely turned off of the spinach salad and couldn't really enjoy the other food. Everyone else did though. They raved about it. Not sure I'll be back."

  • "We were looking for a restaurant near the apartment we are staying in and lucked into Cafe Ronda. DELICIOUS! We shared tapas and a special full of Spanish and Argentinian meats. The chicken breast was one of the best things I've ever eaten."

  • "We decided to go to Cafe Ronda last minute due to the great reviews. It started off questionable when they brought over plain bread and bland olive oil. They really should try to flavor the olive oil with rosemary, or garlic, or red pepper flakes - something. We got their special of the night - Argentine parrillada for 2. That's where things got better - it was delicious. We ordered the dulce de leche crepes for desert - again, delicious. Ambiance was nice. Overall, we had a great evening, though we felt a little rushed through the service."

  • "This was our first visit to Cafe Ronda and will surely not be our last... we loved the place! we were greeted warmly upon arrival - it was early.. not too many diners at 6 PM... the staff was courteous and congenial, the tapas and sherry were excellent -- olives and sherry, little codfish cakes, the torta, and the empanadas - chicken and beef.. our waiter Jorge was charming and attentive, and we actually discovered that we had friends in common... all in all we are coming back soon!"

  • "My daughter and I ate here before a 7 pm opera., so it was quite a bit earlier than usual. We arrived about 15 mins before our 5 pm reserved time, kitchen wasn't open yet but staff was welcoming and accommodating. Started out with some dry sherries (one manzanilla and one fino) and a couple of tapas. The marinated Spanish olives were to die for, the fried artichoke hearts crispy and just salty enough. The "fugazetta", an Argentinean empanada with onions and cheese, were absolutely delicious. I had a skirt steak which was cooked to perfection (rare), and the house chimichurri was an excellent condiment. Wine list is small but well chosen. This is our second experience here, and I am looking forward to going back!"

  • "I've been here several times and it never disappoints. It's not too far from the express trains on the upper west side so it's a convenient place to meet. The food is delicious and there are often great specials. My waiters always give great recommendations and you can tell they aren't just trying to push the most expensive item. There's lots of choices for waine by the glass and the cocktails are good too."

  • "A taste of Spain just South of the Museum of Natural History. The Tapas are delectable, the wine and sherries: varied and delicious. A fun, romantic spot that we will return to again, amd again."

  • "The food is really of poor quality. Despite the rich menu with lots of tapas everything taste like deep fryer and you can't even distinguish one dish from another. Only the empanadas are at least discrete, but overall is one of the worse tapas places in NY"
