Diner Reviews
  • "The table next to us had the strip steaks which smelled amazing - but couldn't resist ordering a bunch of small plates. Next time I'll try the steak."

  • "Slow service and uncomfortable chairs. Food was great though."

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at La Ronda before an early show at Lincoln Center, which is six short blocks away. We tried three different Spanish red wines. Four of the small plates were surprisingly large-- fried artichokes with aioli, roasted cauliflower with marcona almonds, mushrooms in sherry, and a tiny eel-like fish that looked and tasted more like pasta than fish. The bacalao croquettes were on the bland and bready side, but everything else was absolutely delicious and obviously made to order. The service was charming, and all the young servers seemed to cover all the tables so someone was always paying attention. The outside of the restaurant is uninspiring but once inside, it feels very much like Spain."

  • "Great neighborhood place, romantic ambience. Staff extremely welcoming and caring, asking often if you're enjoying. Great chorizos, shrimp/clams in green sauce, octopus. And the waiter was very knowledgeable in recommending wine by the glass, as we needed both red and white. Martinis however seemed a bit watery."

  • "My friends and I were scrambling for a spot to host a last-minute get-together. Thanks to OpenTable, I was able to quickly secure a spot at Cafe Ronda. When we got there, we were seated promptly and attended to quickly by our friendly server. The food was delicious; my favorite was the chicken and chorizo paella and the ice cream sundae, clearly homemade. We also enjoyed the appetizers and the sangria was a much-needed salve for our brutal week. All in all, great experience and we will be back soon!"

  • "We were looking for something inexpensive yet different. Little did we know that Cafe Ronda would fit the bill and then some. The small tapas dishes we expected were more like individual servings at other restaurants. Everthing was cooked to perfection & I'd highly recommend it."

  • "I've been here once before for brunch and I loved their baked egg dish, so I decided to come here on a date for dinner. The reviews for dinner on Yelp weren't very encouraging but I thought I'd try it anyway. I very pleased. The waiter recommended specials were excellent and so were the tapas. The only reason I gave this place a 4 star rating and not 5 was because I felt like there was something missing in the ambiance. It seemed too much like a cafeteria and less like a restaurant. Would definitely come here again."

  • "Tapas were really good. Sherry was outstanding. Only complaint is noise level - very lod due to many tables ina small space pushed close together"

  • "Favorite restaurant on the upper west side. Best tapas I have ever had. Highly recommend."

  • "First keep in mind it was New Year's Eve. We were a party of 7with 3 kids in our party. The waiter was a little harried and mixed up our order a little bit. It wasn't a big deal and we realized it happens. The food started out great except I felt something hard while I was chewing my spinach salad. What I found was a hard sharp piece of clear plastic. I was a little freaked just thinking I might have swallowed it and it could've done some damage. I didn't say anything because I know the waiter was already stressed, I should've though. After that I was entirely turned off of the spinach salad and couldn't really enjoy the other food. Everyone else did though. They raved about it. Not sure I'll be back."

  • "We were looking for a restaurant near the apartment we are staying in and lucked into Cafe Ronda. DELICIOUS! We shared tapas and a special full of Spanish and Argentinian meats. The chicken breast was one of the best things I've ever eaten."

  • "We decided to go to Cafe Ronda last minute due to the great reviews. It started off questionable when they brought over plain bread and bland olive oil. They really should try to flavor the olive oil with rosemary, or garlic, or red pepper flakes - something. We got their special of the night - Argentine parrillada for 2. That's where things got better - it was delicious. We ordered the dulce de leche crepes for desert - again, delicious. Ambiance was nice. Overall, we had a great evening, though we felt a little rushed through the service."

  • "This was our first visit to Cafe Ronda and will surely not be our last... we loved the place! we were greeted warmly upon arrival - it was early.. not too many diners at 6 PM... the staff was courteous and congenial, the tapas and sherry were excellent -- olives and sherry, little codfish cakes, the torta, and the empanadas - chicken and beef.. our waiter Jorge was charming and attentive, and we actually discovered that we had friends in common... all in all we are coming back soon!"

  • "My daughter and I ate here before a 7 pm opera., so it was quite a bit earlier than usual. We arrived about 15 mins before our 5 pm reserved time, kitchen wasn't open yet but staff was welcoming and accommodating. Started out with some dry sherries (one manzanilla and one fino) and a couple of tapas. The marinated Spanish olives were to die for, the fried artichoke hearts crispy and just salty enough. The "fugazetta", an Argentinean empanada with onions and cheese, were absolutely delicious. I had a skirt steak which was cooked to perfection (rare), and the house chimichurri was an excellent condiment. Wine list is small but well chosen. This is our second experience here, and I am looking forward to going back!"

  • "I've been here several times and it never disappoints. It's not too far from the express trains on the upper west side so it's a convenient place to meet. The food is delicious and there are often great specials. My waiters always give great recommendations and you can tell they aren't just trying to push the most expensive item. There's lots of choices for waine by the glass and the cocktails are good too."

  • "A taste of Spain just South of the Museum of Natural History. The Tapas are delectable, the wine and sherries: varied and delicious. A fun, romantic spot that we will return to again, amd again."

  • "The food is really of poor quality. Despite the rich menu with lots of tapas everything taste like deep fryer and you can't even distinguish one dish from another. Only the empanadas are at least discrete, but overall is one of the worse tapas places in NY"

  • "don't think classic tapas but a good semblance of same. Chorizo is tasty but pre-cooked so a bit dry. Service is a bit up and down but they try..."

  • "On a Sat. night ear plugs would have be nice, very loud. Went for empanadas, fillings good but wrapers way to thick."

  • "Food and service was adequate but nothing too special. Since my wife recently returned from a trip to Spain, I was hoping we might find the same great food she experienced there. Tapas is the thing to do in Spain, so we ordered five dishes off the tapas menu. We weren't sure if this would be enough food or too much; it was barely enough. The spicy potatoes were particularly good, but everything else was okay (chicken empanadas, filet mignon skewers, shrimp in garlic sauce, mushroom croquettes). We were pleasantly surprised by the dessert we ordered (Ice Cream Sundae). Otherwise, not a stand out eating experience."

  • "We picked this place because of the proximity to the Beacon Theater...it was the perfect choice...lots of yummy tapas plates-served with an efficient wait staff. We were fortunate that it was still nice enough on this October night to sit outside! Only disappointment was that the Paella we wanted to order would have taken too long...which means it wasn't sitting in a large pot waiting to be served-so it is probably very good and we will definitely have to try it next time!!!"
