  • Tasty French Food, Comparable Price

All that you'd expect from a French restaurant. My dining partner started with the soup du jour (cream of mushroom) and we shared the pork rillette. My entree was the braised beef short rib (beautifully tender, fantastic flavor, with a rich sauce). My dining partner had the black pepper bavette steak (a flank cut marinated in red wine and herbs) - very tasty indeed! We shared the delightful chocolate hazelnut slice for dessert. This was our second time at this restaurant, our first visit shortly after it just opened. The food was simply so-so on our first visit, but the food was definitely better this second time around.

1.Our waitress could not remember 3 (I repeat 3) dishes that we had just ordered. 2. She put the water carafe on our table to re-arrange some dishes and did not pour water in our glasses. 3. She thought that we had ordered mussels when we had not. 4. She said " I speak fast" so I will repeat if you don't understand. Why doesn't she learn to speak slower? One of the worst waitresses I have ever had.

We had a very nice experience at Cafe Regalade, we were seated promptly when we arrived for our reservation at 7 pm. Our server was very charming and helpful, and the service was excellent. The salad my husband and I shared was lettuce with sliced pear and candied nuts...excellent with a light dressing. I ordered the orange duck and found the duck a little tough and difficult to get the meat off the bone, the sauce was however, superb. Our friend had the short ribs, they looked wonderful and he said they were.. My husband had a beef dish that was an herbed flank steak with fries and thinly sliced deep fried onions, delicious. The dessert my friend and I enjoyed was a very light chocolate dessert with a caramel drizzle. Perfection!

Had a nice Friday night dinner, food was excellent as usual however they did not have our favourite dish, the Smoked Herring Potato Salad as their supplier was not supplying the smoked herring. Will check to make sure it is back on the menu before booking again as it is a big driver for us going there

Cafe Regalade is a French restaurant that really serves French food, as opposed to steak and frites. The staff are uncompromisingly French in one way or another, and they are clearly devoted to what they are doing. Service is friendly and engaged, and expert, but can be a bit slow during the summertime owing to vacations and whatnot. The chef is inspired and can actualy bake as well as cook. I am not all that fond of garlic and so I have to ask them to reduce the garlic in my dishes, as their recipes are heavy on garlic. The staff know their wines and know wine generally.

Great food! I kept looking to see what the other tables are having are they all looked really good. The service was a bit slow due to the big crowds coming that night. People was standing by door by the time we got our table. They were very accommodating though by giving us a booth table due to the fact that we have a small toddler. The chef even took the time to help me with some paper and pen for my girl to play with while having her formula so kudos to that.

The food in general was good. We had rockfish, which was mediocre. The lamb and braised pork cheeks were done very well, except the sauces were too strong for my liking. We walked in when the restaurant was still pretty quiet but we ended up having to wait over an hour for our food! The restaurant did get busier, but having a 2.5-3hr dinner when we made an early reservation is quite unacceptable!

I arrived with my date at the Cafe on time for our reservation and we were told to wait to be seated. There were several tables empty. After about 5 minutes, we just went and chose an open table. We sat at that table for an additional 15 minutes. The wait staff made eye contact with us repeatedly but did not bring us water or bread, let alone a menu. The restaurant was not so busy. The wait staff had time to joke around and chat. I am a big fan of the original La Regalade but could never set foot again in the cafe. We ended up just leaving.

This was my second time at Cafe Regalade in 6 months. On both occaisions, we were a table of 4. Also on both occaisions, we had reservations, but they weren't ready when we arrived. We waited over half an hour to be served. What's the point of making a reservation when we still have to wait 35 minutes for a table? The servers were friendly but slow. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We also waited long for our bill. Serving staff kept disappearing into the kitchen for long periods. We had 7:00 reservations. We did not leave the restauarant until 10:10 p.m. The food was delicious but I will not go back. There are many outstanding french restaurants in Vancouver with far better service than this one.

It is a nice addition...well laid out and the food was generaly very good, even if the moules frites were a tad bland (the mussels themselves were very good...it is a nice family/couple place where the old school French style is reassuring. The mushroom soup was vibrant and e pork belly main was almost southern Italian in flavours and sinfulness...recommended.

Our family of 5 had a delicious dinner of typical french dishes such as french onion soup, mussels and fries, steak & fries, beef short ribs and the pork belly special. It was all very well prepared though it was an hour before we got our food. I suppose good food takes time. The waitresses were very attentive and made sure we were well stocked with drinks while we were waiting. All the dishes had their own characteristic flavours and were not overcooked. The mussels were plump and juicy and the steak was cooked perfectly. We had visited Paris the year before and I would say that the food at Cafe Regalade was very comparable to what we could get in Paris as well. This was a definite recommend.

The best part of this dining experience was good service. My duck a l'orange was chewy and dripping with fat; the potatoes au gratin were undercooked and immersed in a sauce that separated. The noise level made it difficult to carry on with a conversation at our table of four. The prices were completely out of line with the quality of food and ambience. Will definitely not return.

The food was pretty good, and service was friendly .. but everything was slow, except for getting seated (we had reservations). The server forgot to give us bread and profusely apologize - no big deal. If you're expecting to be in and out in under 2 hours, don't come here. But if you want laid back french fare in a cute neighbourhood spot and have lots of time, check it out.

We had a couple of excellent dishes at Cafe Regalade. The Duck L'Orange that I ordered and the Quinoa with Mango and Basil Salad that my wife ordered were excellent. The baguette was also fantastic - probably the best that I've had at any bakery or restaurant. A lot of other items on their regular menu and daily specials were really appealing. We will definitely go back to try more.

I've been to this restaurant twice, and everytime I liked everything that I tasted. I find the portion sizes very reasonable, especially for a french restaurant. When it came time for dessert, nobody really wanted any, but once we'd gone through the dessert menu, we just couldn't pass... so we ordered 2 (shared between 4 of us). They were delicious, but we just couldn't finish them.

Decor - paint peeling from tables and walls, not very attractive. The food was extremely over-salted. Let down with the onion soup as there was absolutely nothing authentic about it other than the bowl it was served in. The broth was like an overly-salted vegetable broth with carrot chunks and tomato chunks in it, definitely not what one expects when they specifically advertise as a 'French bistro'. The waiter never spoke a word to us, and he never checked on whether we needed anything... A big, big let-down.

Everytime we eat here we are brought back to our recent trip to Paris and reminded how delicious French cuisine is. Everything tastes so flavorful and clean, even down to the bread. That is what bread should taste like! Ive had both the steak frites and the beef bourginion and both are delicious. The deserts are great too. I recently had a strawberry tart and it was divine. All around great restaurant with great staff. Brylle was our server and he was fantastic. Really love this restaraunt. It doesn't feel like you're in Vancouver when you eat here!

I have to have an Appetizer-the French onion tart and the beet salad, as for vegetarians they do not have much to choose from, but for meat lovers it is an ideal place with duck, beef and pork dishes. The cooking is excellent, the restaurant is on the pricey side, so do expect to pay around $70 for two with half a liter of wine. The portions are also European size. It was a real French dining experience. I only wish they had more veggie or fish dishes for those who cannot eat meat, but they seem to be overly busy like this already..

They need to update their website. The food we were looking to try wasn't available. The chef updates his own menu all the time, so if you see something on the website menu, it may or may not be on the actual menu. They were also out of the wine we ordered. The food was pretty amazing though. The ambience wasn't great. Our server was very friendly, but we waited a long time to have our drink orders taken. By the time we ordered our drinks, we were ready to order food. I'd say, if you like French food, give it a go, but you'll probably eat there once and keep checking out other places to dine.

The smoked Herring and potato salad was wonderful. Wine list is short but inexpensive (by Vancouver standards) for the quality for the wine we ordered. Nice casual atmosphere and well decorated as a French Bistro. Liked it and will come back.
