A word from Cafe Pyrenees
Cafe Pyrenees is tucked inside the Adler Square Shopping Plaza in Libertyville, IL. Once you step inside you're treated to warm color tones, greenery, a myriad of wine bottles, hearty brick features, and fresh smells of the featured dishes. Customers rave about the mouth watering dessert delight Chocolate Feuilletine, A.k.a. “The Hockey Puck” which is a crispy praline topped with dark chocolate mousse and then covered with dark chocolate ganache. If you aren't ready to start your meal with a dessert customers suggest to begin with a simple order of Escargot drenched in herbed butter or give the Duck Quesadilla a try with it's blended flavors of melted cheese, duck confit and a homemade cherry mango chutney. Some of the traditional entree staples you will find are Steak Frites, Beef Bourguignon, Seafood Ravioli filled with shrimp, scallops, crab meat and lobster sauce, Chicken Paillarde and Sauteed Calves Liver. • "We were very pleasently surprised. I was looking for a decent, moderately priced restaurant to celebrate a family birthday. This was way more than we expected. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We've been to far more expensive restaurants and not had as nice of a dining experience."

  • "Cafe Pyrenees was a great date night spot! The restaurant is in a strip mall, but the inside is anything but. We had the duck and the beef bourguignon. Both were fabulous!! The bar area is large and they have a periodic wine wholesale event."

  • "We were celebrating 2 birthdays. Our table was ready upon arrival. Our waiter Alex was friendly, shared specials and described some of the menu we had questions about. He didn't rush us but gave us attentive service. The food was delicious and 3 out of 5 had not been before and are already looking forward to their second visit."

  • "Cafe Pryrenees never makes me disappointed. Very welcoming atmosphere by all the staff. We were the last to leave the restaurant, but they never pushed us out! Tasty as usual. Highly recommended if you are looking for a slightly upscale restaurant. Oh, on Tuesday, they offers half price for all the bottles in a list. We took the advantage of it!"

  • "Our dinner was exceptional. Food options from each course are interesting and different. Not the same old that many restaurants have. Our meals were delicious and the service was spot on!"

  • "They were running an hour behind reservation times. There was a man handing out wine who couldn't give any info or even check anyone in, no hostess for about 30 mins. Around 10 parties were left with no check in, no approx wait time. Once seated, the service was very friendly or attentive. The food was good but nothing outstanding or unique. I ordered the salmon with risotto, salmon was cooked perfectly but the risotto was under cooked. Husband ordered the boeuf bourguignon, tender but tasted like any pot roast that could be made at home, no hint of wine to be found. Would try them again. They have a reputation for delicious food so I am hopeful that the night got away from them & that our experience is not their standard level of service."

  • "Dinner special (Fluke) was very good. Wait staff attentive but not bothersome. Had a great S. Africa wine. Parking can be an issue. Don't let strip mall location influence you."

  • "Even though the menu is small, this has allowed for a mastery of each dish that leads to a great eating experience! The waitstaff Rolando was very attentive and welcoming. This is a great place to bring your date or significant other."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is consistently great French cuisine, the prices moderate, the atmosphere welcoming and classy. We come often for their Wednesday "Wacky Wine Wednesdays" when they offer superb wine at greatly reduced prices. We are not big dessert eaters, but on special occasions when we do order the dessert, we have always been thrilled. The service is attentive and professional. Nothing not to love about the whole dining experience."

  • "My wife and I went there on Valentine's Day and sat at the bar prior to our dinner while waiting for our reservations. We sat at the bar dor 15 minutes trying to flag one of the five people behind the bar. They were either too busy chatting with guests or trying to figure out the computer. Either way many others were disgruntled and we left before getting seated . Plus we noticed many others at there tables with no food looking for a waiter. Disorganized."

  • "The place was packed so even though we had a reservation we did not get seated right away so they have us free wine. The food and the service were both excellent."

  • "This was our first time at Cafe Pyrenees. Have always heard good things about the food from friends. We enjoyed our food and the experience tremendously. It was Valentines day and they were very busy, yet the owner Mari greeted us warmly, spoke to us while seating us and afterward as we left. The parking lot is small but we were told that the Holiday Inn and the Walgreens allowed parking as well. This will solve the problem of finding parking quickly in the future. The food was wonderful and in spite of the crowd waiting in the lobby we were not rushed at all. Our waiter was friendly, and took the time to answer our questions. We will definitely return to try the other items on the menu and we will bring friends with us. Geat wine list too."

  • "This was a disaster..it took an hour to get seated. .There were no bus boys..The wait to get bread.. (2 lousy dinner rolls) was 20 min..had a reservation for 7 . Got out of there around 10. Entre.was good."

  • "We were happy to get a last minute 6:30 pm reservation on Valentine's Friday night, however weren't seated until 7:30 and then the pace of food delivery slowed things down even more so. Have eaten here before and will again -- and food was wonderful and our wait was compensated by a complimentary glass of wine -- however the logjam in seating was a little disconcerting. Hoping this was a one-time Valentine's event and any future overbookings are avoided."

  • "The restaurant is a favorite of mine for many years. The food is always fresh, the staff is very attentive, and the wine selection is excellent. I have never been disappointed. I am looking forward to the road repairs to be completed in the area, so they can re-open up at lunch time."

  • "I eat here with friends 7-8 times a year. The food is always good. I almost always get the specials which stay fresh and inventive. Mostly I come back for the wine list. There is a good selection of wines in the $30-35 range. There is also a large selection of lables the you dont ever see locally. This is also a great place to go tasting and have a small plate of food."

  • "We dined here early in the summer of 2013 and experienced a very mediocre meal. I had a chicken filet dish that was definitely subpar for being chicken. My husband's dinner was okay. I didn't want to return, but my husband persuaded me to have dinner last Saturday evening. I'm happy to say everything we had was very good including the ravioli appetizer, French onion soup, beef bourguignon, and beef Wellington. Seriously, it was very good!"

  • "We have been going to Cafe Pyrenees since it first opened at it's old location. Even after moving to Libertyville, it has consistently remained an excellent place to dine...for lunch or for dinner. We have never been disappointed. The food is outstanding and the staff is amazing."

  • "We have been going to Pyrenees since it opened. The food has always been excellent and the service always slow. So we knew what to expect. It was, however, slower than usual. No complaints about the server. He was great. But the management had him running back and forth between the two seating rooms. Almost 20 minutes before we got drinks. But we weren't in a hurry, and made it through the meal in the two hours or so that, based on experience, I had mentally allotted. The unfortunate thing was that the waits were so long much of the food was served warm rather than hot. It's one of my wife's favorite places. The food is excellent. The ambiance is fine. We will go again. After all, we know what we're getting into. And now you do too."

  • "Very quiet in the little room off the bar , waiter very attentive, and gave a sample of wine to choose from x2 which one was outstanding. Plus the Owner gave a free bottle of wine to take home ! The rack of lamb was outstanding , as well as the crispy Duck ! Even though it was during a big snowstorm , we enjoyed our favorite local restaurant ,to ring in the New Year !!"

  • "You would not expect to find a great restaurant in a suburban strip mall, but that is what Cafe Pyrenees is. We went there for my birthday dinner and everything from the baked Brie appetizer through the mussel chowder to the ice cream dessert was excellent. Service was impeccable. We eat out often and have hit most of the downtown Libertyville restaurants. This has become our favorite."
