Cafe Provencal - WilliamsburgA Wedding Anniversary ClassicMy wife and I chose Cafe Provencal to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and it was an excellent choice. Our choice was based largely on reviews we read on Open Table. My wife had the pan seared scallps as an appetizer while I had the baby arugula salad. We both had the sauteed organic chicken breast with bacon cream sauce, boursin mashed potatoes and broccolini. Dessert was a simple coffee and Baile's Irish Cream. Our dinner wine was Williamsburg Winery's own Voignier--an excellenct accompanyment to the creamy chicken dinner. BTW, we were presented with a complimentary class of sparkiing wine when we arrived as an anniversary gift. Will we go back? You bet! We don't go to Williamsburg often but Cafe Provencal is on our list.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Best Restaurant in WilliamsburgMy wife and I found Cafe Provencal a number of years ago and have been going there for special occasions ever since. We have tried many of the other highly rated restaurants in the area, but at one time or the other have come away disappointed at all of them, while we have never been disappointed by any of Chef Tim's creations. This time was no different. The grouper we both had was superb. The service was equal to the quality of the food. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive. We will return.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCafe ProvencalThis restaurant is fairly difficult to locate(my GPS was not reliable and I had to call to find my way) - hidden in a small hotel on the grounds of the Williamsburg Winery - but well worth making the effort. Our meal was delicious, beautifully presented, with gracious service. It is slightly more formal than most restaurants in downtown Williamsburg and certainly rivals any of them (including Fat Canary) in food and service with a nice wine list. It is small and quiet - perfect for a special occasion. Salmon served on lobster risotto was a stand-out as were the desserts. They make their own ice creams, which are fantastic! I have been sampling restaurants in Williamsburg for many years and Cafe Provencal ranks among the very best.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at the CafeWe chose Cafe Provencal because it was close to the winery and had good reviews. The Cafe is excellent. Service was outstanding, the wine selection huge, and the food extremely good. Clearly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. We started with a shared salad and then chose the Allen Brothers fillet(for me) and the duck(for my wife). Both entrees were cooked very well and tasted great. One of the best fillets I've ever had. We were the only guests for about 10 minutes and then another couple arrived. The dining room has many windows, wonderful chairs upholstered in colonial fabric and relaxing music. Our server, Henry, was solicitous and provided wine tastings so we could find the wine we liked. The opening amuse bouche was delicate and tasty. I had the salmon, cooked raw, perfectly and my husband had the grouper special which he said was delicious. I had creme brulee for dessert which was fine, nothing special; my husband had panacotta which he said was very good. There was homemade cinnamon ice cream at the end of the meal. We wanted one special dinner while in Williamsburg and this was the place. Great food, loved the foie gras. Everything was cooked properly and presented beautifully . The wine list was extensive and some good values. I would recommend trying one of the local wines from the winery. We enjoyed our server, Henry. Building/restaurant not well marked--hard to find entrance. After dark, upon exiting, parking area is poorly lit, especially a couple walking alone to wooded lot. Need to fix that. Otherwise, the inn is beautiful once inside-- rustic & filled with antiques. Dining room small and awkwardly quiet, to the point where we could hear every table's conversation, but food was very good to excellent, and service outstanding. Wine very good. Everyone very nice, table visited by manager to say hello. They are trying really hard, and succeeding. Definitely worth the effort to visit-- a unique dining experience. A bit too quiet for me, but take it for what it is--a secluded inn with a small dining room. In truth, a little tricky to find, but so worth the effort. The food is excellent and interesting. Service was correct and friendly; our server was very knowledgeable about the food and the wine, and steered us to an excellent Pinot Noir. Speaking of wine the list is interesting and encompasses Californian, European, Antipodean, and Virginian vinyards.
