The new Edgar Restaurant took some getting used to. It was so different from the former Cafe Promenade venue. We missed the live music of the former venue and the seating and arrangement of tables. In the new Edgar venue the location of food stations was scattered and it was more difficult to locate where foods were. Otherwise, the service/waitstaff was excellent and quite helpful and the food was abundant and marvelous.

We had booked for tea (something we had indicated in our on-line booking), but the Cafe Promenade no longer was doing afternoon tea - though their website had not been updated. We phoned around and found a place that was serving afternoon tea and went there. Cafe Promenade will be closing soon (if it hasn't already) - and I think that is fine.

I was disappointed in the venue, since the restaurant had moved from it's old fantastic location to a temporary spot in the balcony of the lobby. Not at all the setting I expected. And then the waiter brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee, though he did realize his mistake and came back to apologize.

The website said that they serve afternoon tea during the week but they don't. I was extremely disappointed to arrive at my reserved time with my friend in tow to celebrate her birthday to find out there would be no high tea served! I recommend they update their website.

The usual restaurant is closed for renovation now and the restaurant is in a temporary location on the mezzanine level. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived, our group of 5 was seated right next to the temporary wall that blocked off the construction. Shortly after we sat down, the construction noise began. It was so loud that it was difficult to carry on a conversation. This was not a pleasant dining experience and I would not recommend dining here while the construction is going on.

They moved this restaurant recently. The ambience is less pleasant, the food was not as good and the service was poor. The prices were much too high. I often ate at the restaurant when it was in it's earlier location and was surprise at it's recent deterioration. Last time there for me.

This is a lovely spot for high tea. Unfortunately, the sandwiches were a little stale and the waiters forgot that I said did not eat meat and received two sandwiches that I could not eat. Then the staff disappeared until it was time to give my mother and I the bill. But to be honest we were having a nice conversation and I could not be bother to try to flag down staff far away at other tables. However, nice place in a beautiful hotel. Good mother/daughter outing :)

How disappointing!!!! The staff was attentive but the food was mediocre at best. All of the pastries were store bought, and when we asked for seconds the staff had to check if they had enough. The tea selection was animic at best and no one came to refresh it during the time we were there. The scones were hard and very small. The cream looked like whipped cream and not clotted cream. The lemon curd was out of jar and to add insult to injury the jams on the table were in commercially packaged little jars, much like they would serve at a neighborhood restaurant that didn't boast about it's tea service. Never again!

We had afternoon tea. It was delightful and the wait staff was very helpful and attentive. The sandwiches and pasteries were very quaint and offered a wide variety things to sample. The crab spread was everyone's favorite with the huge chunks of meat. The traditional cucumber sandwiches were refreshing. The desserts were first class. The only disappointment was when we had tea here years ago, there was a harpist which created a nice atmosphere. There was no live music this time.

Went to Cafe Promenade -- in the Mayflower Hotel -- for Sunday afternoon tea on a first date. The tea was OK. I'm not an aficionado so I couldn't tell you how it compares. I figured when the menu came out that we'd have to choose one dessert and one sandwich, but actually each person gets a little tiny bit of all the sandwiches and all the desserts, which were great! It's a dressy, pretty formal place, so no shorts.

The mother's day brunch is always special. I have been taking mom there for a while. It can be a bit pricey depending upon your buget but it is all you can eat. Do make reservations if this is a special event becuase it does get a bit full. Also the valet parking is expensive drive to the parking lot around the corner on Desales and save some money... it is were your care is going anyway.

Brunch was overpriced for the quality and variety of food. Prime rib was medium well to well done. Rare was requested and not available. Dessert bar was underwhelming. It was something I would have expected from a $20 buffet at a Days Inn. Service was lax. We had to ask the bus boy for our champagne after we had had 2 courses because the waiter was nowhere to be found. Tables were obviously added to the end of a banquette to accommodate more people. In addition, we were placed next to a family of 6 who had a young child who screamed most of the time we were there and the parents permitted the child to eat off the tablecloth and use messy desserts as a play toy. We couldn't wait to leave.

This was my second visit to the Cafe Promenade for Mother's Day brunch. Once again we had a wonderful time. Food was delicious. I was carefull to pace myself during the meal since I wanted to taste a bit of everything. Wonderful selection! Polenta with goat cheese. Wow! The tea is a classic experience. A childhood image come to life. BUT the valet parking costs nearly as much as the tea- a spanking $25 and I wasn't warned upon arrival. I also had to wait 20 minutes for my car after the tea and that put a damper on things.

Nestled in the middle of the fancy Mayflower Hotel, Cafe Promenade is exactly how any hotel dining room should be. The right ambiance and the right menu. The afternoon tea, however, was a disappointment. A hefty $28 for the smallest double level of tea sandwiches and desserts ever seen. The average one was a square inch. The sandwiches especially were a disappointment. We actually thought we were getting a second serving after that! Thank goodness, we also ordered the crabcakes, which were very filling.

This was my first visit to the Cafe Promenade. It had been difficult to get a weekend reservation for their afternoon tea, so I was rather surprised to find the food stale and not particulary tasty. We ordered our tea selection and shortly thereafter the pre-set menu of sandwiches and sweets was brought to the table. The tea did not arrive until we were nearly half way through the finger foods. The tea strainers provided did not strain the tea except for the largest particles, so the tea had lots of debris from the various organic matter that made up the flavor selection. The atmosphere is lovely and quiet, but if the food offered at tea is any representation of their overall cuisine, I would not recommed the food.
