Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed really exceptional service and excellent food here."

  • "I use to love this restaurant and the food but I had a luncheon meeting last week there and the chicken salad I ordered was really bad. It had three tiny pieces of chicken (super dry) lots of lettuce but nothing really special. Waitress recommended it so I was really disappointed."

  • "My family had a wonderful dining experience at Cafe Ponte and look forward to a return visit soon. The food was delicious and our waiter had so much personality that he made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Cafe Ponte is a special restaurant for all occasions."

  • "The food was ok, not worth the money. Bought a groupon for a 6 course tasting and that is what is was a tasting. The groupon was 85 dollars and we had to tip on 170 dollars? We spent over 150 dollars on a very sub optimal meal. Very disappointed in Cafe Ponte and also groupon."

  • "We have dined here multiple times and it never disappoints. This is a world-class restaurant. Beautiful presentations and impeccable service. Our server, Jeff was both knowledgeable and professional. Marvelous fresh baked bread offering is tempting. The tuna appetizer was outstanding. I normally get the beet salad which is always artistically done. The salmon entree was perfectly cooked. This is a bit of a drive for us, but it is really worth the trip."

  • "This restaurant is by far one of the best you'll find in pinellas county. I have been there about 5-7 times and have never been let down. Wait staff was very in tune to what we needed and food was excellent. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Excellent food, great service! Our second time dining there, will go back again!"

  • "I had heard so much about this restaurant and was looking forward to the dining experience. Unfortunately, we tried the 6 course tasting menu and it was horrible. For $85 a person + plus 20% added to your bill it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. They use cheap ingredients and the items were barely bite size. It was an embarrassment to everyone at our table. The famous chef was not there on a Saturday."

  • "Have eaten here several times. Service has been mediocre at best (the last time our waiter was downright rude, we waited for a half hour to get served, could not get bread, and it felt like we might be getting discriminated against. Took more than two hours for dinner, mostly spent waiting) but the food really is unbelievable and makes up for it."

  • "Very nice restaurant - my wife & I dined out alone - will say it was a little louder than I anticipated on a Monday night. Bread basket is awesome idea. Was looking forward to the carpaccio but was somewhat disappointed. The Ahi more than made up for it - should have got two of those. I would recommend the mushroom soup to any and all although our server brought us a demitasse of the curry corn chowder served cold.Neither of us thought we would care for it - wrong!!! It was delicious. The short rib entrée was superb while the sea bass while good just didn't seem to hit the mark.Overall - enjoyable evening and kudos to our server, Jennifer. She did a very good job of answering questions and providing great service without being all over us."

  • "I took three business guests to lunch at Cafe Ponte and everyone really enjoyed their food. The atmosphere was great for a business lunch--not too loud, so we could actually hear each other."

  • "The food and service were excellent. The restaurant is nicely done, cocktail and wine list extensive, and the food is some of the best I've been able to find in the Tampa Bay Area."

  • "Went to celebrate a birthday. The staff were very pleasant and even gave my wife a birthday card. Service overall was very good. The food did not reach the same level. Especially for the price. I had the porterhouse pork which was good. However, the spinach that came with it was over salted. I also had a side of snap peas and green peas. They were undercooked and also way to salty. The grits were excellent and were the highlight of the meal. My wife's meal was also a mixed bag of good and bad. She liked the sea bass, I hated it. We both did not care for the side of Brussels sprouts. Desserts were excellent. I'll likely not be coming back for a long time."

  • "Every course was wonderful. The mushroom soup is particularly good, as is every appetizer. Our entire party was thrilled with everything we ordered. The staff are particularly knowledgable regarding the particulars of every dish. Always a wonderful experience."

  • "My client had the filet and I thought he was going to pull a Meg Ryan on me after the first bite! My sea bass was incredible. We both loved our salads and the free mushroom soup before the meal and the amazing bread is always delicious. The other interludes between courses are a nice touch. I love Café Ponte and my clients are always thrilled with the experience. I wish they hadn't dropped the duck from the menu, but the explanation the waiter gave was that they had trouble ensuring the highest level of quality, so they dropped it."

  • "I've been wanting to have this forever, since I am from California and this dish is illegal I found my self here on travel and the rest is history. Well it was everything I expected it to be, it was so good I ordered it twice because it was served as and appetizer not a main entre."

  • "We have not been to Cafe Ponte in several years and were completely surprised that the food and service were better that we remembered. There was no rush, food was served one course at a time, and the waitstaff were efficient and prompt. We are looking forward to another delicious meal there. Good job!"

  • "Fabulous find...don't be put off by the strip mall location. The ambience inside is very appealing. We arrived for our 6:30 reservation and the manager quickly made an adjustment in our table. We had originally been placed at a table for 2 in the middle of the restaurant. We were seated at a booth in a nice area by the bar. It was perfect, especially as the restaurant filled up...definitely a hot spot in town. The food was fabulous...the mushroom soup which was brought out "from the chef" was out of this world. Could have made a meal of it! We ordered carpaccio and a gem salad...both were done differently than we experienced before and were very good! Followed with lovely entrees...leaving no room for dessert! Highly recommend!"

  • "Cafe Ponte is not resting on its laurels. I found the restaurant listed on Golden Spoon's Hall of Fame. It had received several awards over the years from various organizations. We decided to try it on Saturday, June 14, 2014. We were an hour early for our reservation and waited at the bar. The service from Gabe & the bartenders, our dinning room waiter, and support staff, was attentive, fun - perfect. You could tell they enjoyed their jobs which reflects good management. There were 4 of us and we ordered steak and seafood dishes all were excellent. The mushroom soup was superb. It was a wonderful evening."

  • "Don't let the fact that this restaurant sits within a strip mall discourage you. The menu was poetry to read, and the dishes we ordered were a delight to eat. The open dining room was a bit different experience (the lighting was also a bit too bright for a fine-dining restaurant, but the food and service were both impeccable. A definite recommendation to anyone visiting or living in the Clearwater area. "

  • "My boyfriend and I recently visited Cafe Ponte after purchasing a groupon online for their Spring Tasting Menu. The meal was to die for and the wine pairings were wonderful. If you have a little extra cash, I would definitely go with the tasting menu, we weer pleasantly full at the end of the evening and got to try/experience so many things on their menu. The service was amazing and the fact that the staff was so knowledgeable about the food and wine was a nice touch. Definitely a great spot for a lavish little date night."

  • "After many visits to this restaurant for normal and celebratory dinners we were very disappointed with the most recent visit. We hope it was just an off night but one never knows... First we were seated in the bar area. At first this was ok since there were no bar patrons but that soon changed. Some of the newly seated parties were quite loud. The proximity of the table to the bar had a few of their butts and our food at the same level. Food was also off this night. Over cooked scallops, tough pork...things we never encountered in the past was the norm this night. The server and manager attempting to mitigate the issues but we kind of gave up as the evening progressed. We never write reviews ...unfortunately this was our first."

  • "We went to Cafe Ponte to celebrate a grduation. Everything was fantastic. The bread choices were really nice, with a broad and tasty selection of breads. The complementary musroom soup was a nice addition to our appetizer portion of the meal, which included beef carpaccio, lobster and crab cakes and foie gras. Main courses of beef ribeye for two, scallops and bouillabaisse were cooked to perfection and served beautifully. Dessert for us was a tasting of 3, each of which was unique and a nice conclusion to the meal, especially when paried with espresso. My wife had the wine pairing with her meal and the selections were solid. I split a bottle with two others and their only shiraz on the wine list was quite good. "

  • "We took a client to Cafe Ponte to celebrate her birthday. It was everything we expected and more! We requested a quiet table and were accommodated. Our server was professional, appropriately humorous, knowledgeable and took very good care of everyone at the table, including our guest of honor. The regular menu was spectacular but they also offer a Pre Fixe menu as well as a Chef's Tasting menu. The cocktail and wine list are amazing! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! Will definitely be back."

  • "A couple of friends and I go to Cafe Ponte quite often for a workday lunch. The food is always excellent - very high end. Their mushroom soup is to die for! We just discovered that they will split a bowl of it to three cups ($7 instead of $5 per cup x 3 = $15). The mushroom soup is their biggest draw for us so this was a good discovery. Now we can order menu items besides the "Trio" (cup of soup, half a sandwich and side salad for $9.99) and still have a relatively affordable lunch which includes our favorite soup! :)"
