Diner Reviews
  • "This is the second time my wife and I dined at Cafet Pinot. We were back in town with 8pm theater tickets and decided to enjoy dinner here again. We were thrilled. There is underground parking directly beneath the restaurant (validated ticket with dinner so no charge downtown LA parking). We ate on the patio with nearby heaters. Service was outstanding. They knew about our theater plans and were very sensitive to the timing. Food was creative and fresh. I would highly recommend."

  • "Cafe Pinot has a very nice ambiance. Its food does not live up to its ambiance. Its prices do. We woud choose a different restaurant next time we are eating in that area."

  • "The food was not good. It looked and tasted like banquet food. I had the flat iron steak that was very tough and chewy. The sauce was bland. It really wasn't worth eating. My husband had the pork chip that was ok. It was kind if rare in my opinion. He didn't love it but ate it because he was hungry. My martini was great! And the atmosphere is nice. The service was good but I wouldn't go back."

  • "We often attend the Aloud program at the L.A. Central Library. On special occasions we'll treat ourselves to a fine dining experience on the patio of the adjacent Cafe Pinot."

  • "My wife and I dined at Cafe Pinot Sunday evening, April 6. As usual, everything was perfect. The hostess was charming and showed us to a great table. The waiter, Carlos, was friendly, listened to us carefully, and did not intrude on our conversation. While we did enjoy the lobster risotto, we could detect lobster flavor but could not find any actual lobster in the dish. That is not particularly a complaint, because the dish was so well prepared it would seem foolish to complain about something that was so wonderful. Cafe Pinot has long been our go-to restaurant in Los Angeles, and will continue to be. We recommend it highly, and we've dined frequently in Paris and throughout Italy through the years. Don't miss it if you are in LA."

  • "Cafe Pinot is always a winner for a business or casual lunch outside."

  • "We have been here a number of times and always really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The ambiance was great. But we were a bit disappointed by the asparagus salad.. it was quite bland. It was described as shave asparagus but was simply large asparagus cut in half and no seasoning whatsoever. We also had the pekin duck and it was just so so again not well seasoned."

  • "I've been coming here for almost a decade, and noticed a sharp decline in service and food quality around 2008. This was my first visit in a while, and I'm happy to say that the food quality and service are back to their old levels. We have a lot of food allergies, and the manager went over every ingredient in each dish with us, and make some excellent recommendations for what could be altered for us. It's very rare to see a fine dining restaurant so flexible, but they definitely were. And they have (in addition to a very good wine list) free corkage on wine/champagne."

  • "Ate dinner before opera at Music Center. Food was great, restaurant was beautiful with a lovely patio and the service was outstanding, one of the most professional yet pleasant staff I have ever met. Would definitely go there again and would highly recommend to all my friends"

  • "What a hidden gem. A beautiful oasis within the city. Of course the food was delicious, the service perfect (they were very considerate knowing that we had performance tickets) . This was my second visit prior to attending a concert. I plan to schedule a dinner when I can linger and enjoy the surroundings. The patio is my favorite spot but dining inside the restaurant is also lovely."

  • "great food and beautiful downtown outdoor setting!!! highly recommend!!!! only small negative was service was a little slow keeping our champagne glasses full, but waiters were otherwise very good."

  • "We went to Cafe Pinot on the recommendation of a friend. It was all she said it would be and more. They were extremely accomodating to the fact that we had tickets toi the opera, and they gave us tickets for the shuttle service. Aside from that, it was a most pleasnt experience, and we will return on our next trip to LA!"

  • "Twinkling Italian lights accent the trees surrounding the beautiful outdoor dining area of this special gem of a restaurant. And dining inside and looking out the floor to ceiling windows is just as fun. Considering the nature in the city atmospher, the experience just gets better when the wine list presents a good selection of wines and the menu a fine selection seafood, poultry and meat. Appetizers, Entrees, and Dessert s all spot-on delicious. Definitely would come back when again in LA."

  • "We had lunch on the terrace on a perfect day. Service was super and so was the setting. The hostess happily seated us at a better table. The menu was interesting but the food was disappointing. I ordered the Nicoise salad which was a composed salad rather than a tossed salad and it was beautiful. But both the potatoes and tuna were practically tasteless. My friend ordered Mary's Chicken...a house favorite. It was tasty but he had to leave some because it was on the rare side toward the center. We'd come back again but I'd like to see the food be tweaked a little."

  • "My wife and travel to Los Angeles from a few hours away to attend downtown cultural events. We often dine at Cafe Pinot, a glass enclosure set at the edge of the park at the old city library. It's reminiscent of Tavern on Green. Excellent food and wonderfully romantic ambiance--inside and out. This time we were seated in our own little balcony overlooking the park."

  • "My wife and I don't get out much with our two babies (6mo and 22mo). For our anniversary, we had an overnight baby sitter and spent the night in downtown LA. Having dinner at Cafe Pinot was the highlight of the getaway. From the great seating, awesome views and romantic ambiance, that was just the tip of the iceberg. The food was DELICIOUS and everyone from the hostess to the waiters to the food runners, were all very friendly. Everyone was very trained at their craft, and their recommendations were spot on. I highly recommend Cafe Pinot for a special occasion!!!"

  • "Sometimes a holiday prix-fixe menu can seem overly pre-fixed. The three-course menu we had was well-balanced and extremely well executed. Lovely outdoor setting."

  • "We knew what we were signing up for with the Valentine's prix fix menu at an older downtown white tablecloth restaurant like this. It was tasteful, romantic and quiet. The decor was dated and conservative, but well done and minimalist. The vibe is all about the patio, as it should be. I was surprised that the food was so good for a conservative place's prix fix. It was still safe, but delicious. It's hard to say; it does what it does excellently, but it's just not my style. I'm more interested in the newer hipper more daring restaurants downtown. But that night, I just wanted a little quiet romance and it's what I got. Recommend to older adults."

  • "Been here several times before and was pleased with the food each time. That was 3-4 years ago. Went for Valetine's Day dinner (2014) and was disappointed by the food. Nothing really tasted good, from the salad to the entree to the dessert. Nothing worse than paying $180 for an unsatisfying meal."

  • "My experience at Cafe Pinot was fantastic! I took my Girlfriend there for Valentines Day dinner and was beyond impressed with the food. The portions were beyond adequate and the preparation and presentation were 10/10. My one complaint was the cost of the meal; $150 for a dinner for 2 is just a bit too much for my liking. It was as good as it could have been, but for younger crowds, that's a tough swing. I really feel that it could have been closer to $100. The service was great ... when they were there. It was a busy night, but when we were sat, it took at least 20 minutes for them to even bring us water, which is pretty bad for a place that's expecting $150 for a dinner. Overall, pretty satisfied, but could have been better."

  • "My wife and I went to Café Pinot after attending a Valentines Day civil marriage ceremony of two good friends. We had a nice quiet wonderful lunch and the restaurant could not have been more accommodating when we showed up half an hour before our reservation. The food is consistently good and the ambience is exceptional and very Southern California. On a nice day the patio is fantastic and while we didn't care to wait for a patio table, even the indoor tables give an expansive view of the surrounding gardens."

  • "This was my first Valentine's Day dinner with my girlfriend, and I requested a cozy and romantic table-- and they sure delivered. Our table was in a private corner on a balcony, outside a flowing fountain. My gf was very pleased. The food was delicious-- flat iron steak which was cooked perfectly, as was the stripe bass-- and the presentation of the dishes had charm and flair. The service was impeccable. Our server, Brian, was warm, attentive, thoughtful, and prompt, and the other staff were attentive and professional as well. A huge plus here is that they allow you to bring your own wine, at no corkage fee."

  • "An oasis in the heart of DTLA, Cafe Pinot lets you feel like an real urbanite as you pamper yourself with casual elegance and some of the best food in town. An oldie but a goodie, definitely worth the trip!"

  • "I was in the downtown Los Angeles area for a conference and was responsible for booking a nice dinner place for a party of 10. Cafe Pinot was wonderful! They were easily able to accommodate our group. We had to push back our reservation too and had no problem doing so. The menu offered a variety of tasty and artfully presented entrees to please each and every person in our party. The wine list was very nice as well. My colleagues continue to rave about our dinner and experience at Cafe Pinot. Thank you!"

  • "At $20 for a lunch with 3 courses, Cafe Pinot is one of the best lunch deals for dineLA (the $35 dinner is pretty good also). This beautiful restaurant right outside the L.A. Central Library is one of the few sure bets and I make it a point to visit it everytime dineLA comes along. Unlike quite a few other restaurants around downtown which offers only 2 courses (i.e. Water Grill and Chaya comes to mind), we get 3 excellent courses with multiple delectable choices. The service is excellent as always and the food was GREAT. I will make it a point to visit Cafe Pinot anytime they offer dineLA."

  • "We dine here regularly before the symphony and are never disappointed. The food, service, and wine list are excellent. In the fall and spring sit outside in one of the best outdoor dining spots downtown. You actually get away from Disney Hall and out of downtown more quickly by taking the shuttle back to Cafe Pinot than you would waiting in line to get out of Disney Hall parking. Highly recommended."

  • "Cafe' Pinot is a semi-regular spot of mine, as usual, great food and service and of course, eating outdoors is always great. Currently there are Dine LA specials, which are alos great. This day, what was not great, was parking. Evenings they have valet, but not at lunch and the parking at the Library was extremely crowded and slow, seems there was some event going on, and I ended up getting to my lunch appointment late. It won't stop me from coming here, but maybe I'll try to find out about anything events in the future!"

  • "A winner! Delicious meal--highly recommend any of the fish dishes. DineLA options were varied and interesting. Atmosphere is lovely...large windows look out on cityscape. Elegant and extremely attentive service. A great pre-theater option, just a few minutes from Ahmanson, Mark Taper, Disney Music Center. The restaurant offers validated, free parking in the adjacent garage, or free tickets to a roundtrip theater shuttle. We parked in the garage, but our waiter told us that many people find the shuttle convenient."

  • "This is my second time a Cafe Pinot. This time was just as memorable as the first time. This was a perfect spot for entertaining our friends from out of town. I just love their setting as well as their patio, (which I strongly believe is the best patio in Los Angeles) I would like to give a special "thank you" to management, staff, and to our server Brian. He was very assertive ,attentive but yet not intrusive. The food was excellent. Portion sizings were plentiful! Thank you Chef! I highly recommend this restaurant for those who enjoy to be pampered and appreciate ambience. Thank you Café Pinot once again! Ciao"

  • "We went for the dine LA lunch and had the soup, salmon and bread pudding. Everything was good, but I have to say the bread pudding was AMAZING!"

  • "Good service and excellent food. The waiters did not ask us for beverage or bread refills and did not check on us during our meal until after dessert was served. It was a beautiful day but the sun was a bit warm and the waiters were not able to move the umbrellas to cover our table, which was centrally located. This was unfortunate since umbrellas were moved over other tables upon request. Still, the dineLA menu was delicious and we can't wait to come back again during dineLA."

  • "Never knew this place existed - despite being right in the heart of Downtown LA, it is a very quiet, romantic spot. Definitely recommend sitting outside if the weather permits. Great food, excellent service. Park valet - it was only $7"
