A word from Cafe Panache
Cafe Panache, located in downtown Ramsey, NJ, has been a top-rated BYO and "culinary mecca" since it opened in 1985. For almost 30 years Chef Kevin Kohler has been tantalizing his clientele with signature dishes - House Made Filet Mignon Ravioli Truffle Butter and Crispy Roast Duckling in Port Wine Sauce. Kohler's menu changes almost daily with seasonal ingredients - producing specials like Lobster in Vanilla Sauce, Artichoke Lasagna, Panko-crusted Soft Shell Crab. Service is "seamless" in an "elegant" "newly-renovated" dining room. Rated Top Restaurant in New Jersey by Jersey Monthly Magazine.

Diner Reviews
  • "Panache is one of my favorite restaurants. The limited menu changes often and always involves interesting (but not outlandish) preparation of traditional standards like filet, lobster, chicken, duck, pasta or fish and I often have a tough time deciding which to order as so many sound interesting. The food quality is uniformly outstanding. Prices are high ($15 appetizer, $35 entree) but not unreasonable for the quality. BYO results in total cost being only upper moderate. Ambiance is very nice and restaurant is bright during daylight hours (which I personally don't like). Service is professional and very friendly."

  • "I have dined here several times and never has there been one misstep in food or service at all. Their bright room (windows all about) was such an uplift after the grey days of winter, and we had our requested corner table. We enjoyed our waiter and his exemplary service. The food was perfect as well, sauce and accompaniments. We dined on Bass and Salmon done to perfection. My dessert was a vanilla mouse which was something like a cloud, a delicious cloud too! All in all, for either lunch or dinner you can not go wrong dining here. One of my favorite Bergen County spots."

  • "Went to Cafe Panache for a business lunch and food was excellent, only complaint - we both wanted the Salmon on the regular menu and at 12:30PM, they had not gotten any salmon in for the day yet."

  • "A most treasured place for a fantastic meal. This restaurant never fails to impress with amazing, creative food. If you are looking for a winner every time, please come here for a meal that will be a delightful memory! The service and ambiance are all part of the experience that makes this place such a gem!"

  • "My husband and I have been going to Café Panache for the past 25 years for delicious food and impeccable service. This is a BYO restaurant which results in a 5 star dining experience in my book. On our last visit we selected the Tuna entrée and the Lamb dish, both were wonderfully prepared (nicely presented with delicious sides of vegetable and starch). I highly recommend this place for those that appreciate fine food and a beautiful ambiance."

  • "Prior experience here was much better than this visit. Dishes ordered were filet mignon, sirloin steak, and tuna. Filet and steak were delicious, but we were not overly impressed by the tuna. They sat us at the table near the front entrance, and there was a cold draft at times when the door opened. What really made the experience poor was the waitress. She was not very friendly, was rather grumpy, and she seemed really annoyed when we did not want to order dessert or coffee. She added in her own tip for a party of 5 people. I have never heard of this for a party of 5, and it does not say it anywhere on the menu either."

  • "Our Birthday Lunch at Cafe P was elegant but not stuffy. Sal was a superb waiter with a smile. The chef's creations were fresh and interesting. I like the artwork and decor, too. I would definitely go back and bring more friends."

  • "This was our first time dining at this establishment. From the moment we were greeted, I knew we had chosen the perfect place for our celebration. We were seated in a cozy booth which set the tone for a romantic dinner. Service was wonderful and food was delicious. We even had dessert ,which we usually pass on. The special dessert was a fruit crumb cake served with cinnamon ice cream and it was worth every calorie ! Looking forward to our next meal at Cafe Panache"

  • "My wife and I have wanted to dine here forever but always passed since the ride seemed so long since we live near NYC. Once we got to the restaurant we were sat right away. Yummy olives in the table--- bread was never recieved though there was butter on the table. Order two special apps-- tuna over seaweed salad-- yuck Canadian oysters-- terrific and duck liver mouse-- amazing. Entrees seafood bouillabaisse-- it was lobster bisque with seafood thrown in and a greasy Piece of bread and short ribs that had no seasoning at all. Needless to say we skipped dessert And won't be returning. Next time if we travel this far we will try Varka"

  • "Café is a lovely restaurant with ambition. The food is good and well prepared. However they do not go the extra mile. They offer one bread and not a choice. They have a limited amount of entrées and many of them were too strange for my mom. Desserts are so boring that none of us had any desire to order one. And we went elsewhere for coffee and dessert. They could learn a thing or two from Local down the street which has more variety in every category. The service is professional but very brusque too. I like café but they need to take it up a notch"

  • "We were seated immediately upon arriving. Our server was courteous and explained all the specials in great detail. The pace between courses was perfect. Our table's choices ranged across meat, fish, and shell-fish-all our dishes were outstanding. Have been going to Cafe Panache for years - the caliber of the cuisine is consistently exceptional."

  • "We had a wonderful belated Valentine's Day dinner! Everything was excellent from the food to the ambiance to the service! We sat by the window which you might expect to be drafty on a cold night but this was not the case. Everything was absolutely perfect!!"

  • "Honestly the food was just good. Nothing to shout about just good. We didn't eat anything that would bring us back for more. Just simply ok food. I definitely filled up on the dinner rolls with butter."

  • "Had been a while since we last dinned at Cafe Panache. Didn't realize that Sunday nights is a price fixed menue vs their normal dinner menu which causes a little scramble on our part but in the end we all left satisfied wife and 3 teenage kids. Menue was able to accommodate 1 vegetarian with out issue."

  • "First time here and everything was great. The warm wild mushroom salad was particularly notable; the scallops were seared to perfection and my wife said it was the best filet mignon she'd ever had. And to coconut cake was luscious."

  • "Not only was the service lousy, the food was horrendous. Would not return here even if it was free. Atmosphere was quite cheesy with cheap furniture and poor lighting. All around a lousy experience!!!"

  • "Service is excellent, staff is very professional without being stuffy. Food was top notch as expected, very fond of the Filet Mignon Ravioli in Truffle Cream Sauce. Appetizer was a special, Duck Liver Sausage, this was outstanding. My wife and I go here once or twice a year, and have attended parties at the location also. BYO is preferable with my wife and myself, we've never had a bad experience at Cafe Panache."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times. So disappointed. Will never go back. Small selection on menu. We arrived at 7PM. 50% of the items we ordered that didn't have. When desert came, it was the same situation, except they never told us they didn't have what we ordered and just gave us whatever they had left in the kitchen. Unbelievable. Highly priced restaurant. Service was rushed and indifferent. Added 20% tip to bill without telling us. We were a table of four. I am assuming this restaurant has new ownership. Too many fabulous restaurants in Bergen County, NJ. Pass this one up. I have never ever written a review on any website except for this restaurant."

  • "We love CP; everything. On Xmas Eve though the menu was very limited. My salad was awful; it must have been coated in pepper although that was not on menu. While other appetizers were just that, the salad choice , with such a limited fare, should have been a special optional well and not greens coated in oil and pepper. Apple dessert choice not special either; soggy apple flavored. Food at beg and end disappointing, main course good for me (lamb) men all felt portions too small. So probably at $75 per head we were just ok. Nice time though. Wine we brought excellent no prep or dishes great too"

  • "I've been to Cafe Panache a number of times. The restaurant is expensive, but you get a good meal and good service. Now, I usually go on a Sunday when the restaurant is not packed, so that may enhance the service and lower the noise level. However, the fact that I go back is a testament to the good food and service. Recently, I went to another high priced restaurant, paid more money and walked out hungry. Here at least, you get what you are paying for. If a restaurant can't give me a better meal than I get at home, then I don't think much of it. Bergen County is loaded with overpriced, lousy restaurants. This place stands out for its food and its service."

  • "Cafe Panache continues to earn its reputation as one of the top five best restaurants in Bergen by delivering an outstanding selection of appetizers, salads and inspirational entres as evidenced during our 7 member Men's Dining Group experience on Thursday night. A lentil soup special enhanced with garlicky fused tomato broth and strong bacon undertones was excellent. A scallop carpaccio highlighted a grand appetizer selection. A pappardelle with wild boar ragou stole the evening as the entre selection. It rivaled presentations in some Tuscany based restaurants. The venison, fish and duck were also well received. Service was very personal, professional and enhanced the dining experience. This is a gem to be enjoyed and revisited."
