Not very busy place when I went on a Saturday night for Winterlicious. Nice and quiet so I could converse easily with my party. My French onion soup starter was very good; my proscuitto-wrapped chicken entree and lemon basil creme brulee were okay. Service again was also only okay - he was friendly, but seemed scattered. For example he didn't write down our food choices, but he had to clarify and repeat them several times with us; also my friend ordered a coffee and the server brought the sugar to our table but the coffee never came. Overall it was a decent place to eat for the price and the quiet atmosphere.

The food was decent. I felt a bit like I was being rushed in and out. Overall, everything was ok, but nothing to write home about.

Cafe Nicole is a very nice restaurant. The server who assisted us was very friendly and the food was prepared very nicely. I was there for Winterlicious and everything I had was very tasty but was a bit disappointed in the plating of my entree. Perhaps if I were to get something off the regular menu it would have been better. Sometimes I notice at these Winterlicious events, since a restaurant would produce so much of the same items, the dish starts to look tired. In any case, the onion soup was wonderful so was the duck appetizer. The prosciutto wrapped chicken breast was well done, not dry. The creme brule was very nice, hint of lemon, I liked the addition of the basil leaf, gave the brule a different flavour. Very happy with my visit.

  • New years prix fixe

Went to Cafe Nicole for New Years dinner and it was surprisingly quiet. I am from outside of Toronto and wanted to try a restaurant that offered a prix fixe menu. The menu for this restaurant looked enticing...four courses, 35 dollars. The service was mostly good except that the server seemed to forget about us when it was time to get the bill. The host was exceptional and stepped in whenever the server was unavailable. The timing of the courses was a little off with dishes arriving before we were complete the previous dish, not a bog deal though. Course 1 was a very tasty salad, #2 was a small sorbet and was good, the steak was the third course and although cooked well was buried under a white sauce, dessert was a cold cobbler...
