I had the Quiche Lorraine & she had the chicken and mushroom crepes, both of which were excellent. Very pleased with the taste and the value of the dishes. The service was attentive and friendly without being annoying. Only minor drawback was the atmosphere -- nice, (and I know it's a "cafe"), but I guess I expected it to be a little less casual and noisy. All in all, an enjoyable experience, though. We watched people come and go and service didn't miss a beat. Management is best in Charlotte. We sat in the cafe and witnessed the manager accommodate several large parties without reservations. Everyone was happy, especially us. Food was outstanding. We had a party of 12 and everything was superb. The environment is romantic in a French way with excellent service and a varied menu with conventional as well as French cooking influenced selections. We always enjoy the French Onion Soup - this would be expected, I suppose! I have had the cheese fondue appetizer and it is a nice small way to enter the meal. My wife usually has the quiche garnished with a delicate salad. I had the short ribs which were tasty and tender with a nice soft that isn't the ordinary brown sauce often found with short ribs. The wine selections are fine. This is a great place for lunch, brunch, dinner - as well as late evening. We lounged outside in the sun; lovely; we had traveled to Paris together, and had stayed out side the Eiffel Tower; it brought back so many great memories.
So, came time for my daughter's 36th birthday. Since she is a very successful woman, I could not think of anything any nicer than to take her and my other daughter out for brunch; It was recommended by the lovely waitress that had taken care of us the week day we had been there. She wanted to go to Paris one day; we encouraged her to do so.
The food was great both visits...cannot tell you how good it was, since I have had good food all over the world. It is hard to find such a gem here in Hickory, and really, in Charlotte.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSaturday night was hoppingSaturday night was hopping with people and a 3-man band playing golden oldies from the early 70s. So the noise level at the front of the restaurant was quite high and we had to wait about 30 minutes for our table. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. The cafe is well appointed with decorative tables and chairs that remind one of an outdoor cafe. We were shown to a table near the back of the restaurant which took us away from the music and afforded us nice conversation. Service was good. There was a little confusion towards the end of the meal about availability of desserts, but it got straightened out. And the food (why you go) was excellent. Really excellent. The service and food will never disappoint. We absolutely love the shrimp pizza.
Atmosphere can be whatever you make. We've taken our kids (7 and 6) for lunch and dinner and they absolutely love their entrees, whether it is from the kids menu or off our plates. Really enjoyed the food. Service was a bit slower than usual, but they were slammed. Portions are more than ample. My only complaint is, I used a living social coupon, and evidently they changed their policy and don't apply these toward ANY beverages. The atmosphere is great, food is terrific and the wine list is good too. I do find that our experiences with your wait staff is very different each visit. It would serve you well to make sure that they are all trained uniformly so that we know beforehand what will be provided without asking (or not).
