Diner Reviews
  • "A great dining experience that mixes formal french food with a casual cafe atmosphere. The food is excellent, I had the steak frite. It was cooked perfectly and was a very generous portion. The atmosphere is typical of a french cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, warm colors and perfectly chosen artwork. The prices are perfect for a semi-formal event. Perhaps a once a week or bi-weekly family dinner. Definitely not a secret as the place was packed. Make reservations."

  • "At first we were worried- we had reservations for 7:30 and didn't get seated for almost twenty minutes (with people arriving after us getting seated first). The man seating people realized he had been grabbing the wrong couple and rectified the situation by giving us free drinks and a great waitress. We ordered off the restaurant week menu- scallops for me, trout for my boyfriend- and the good was fabulous. It was full of flavor, not too heavy, and a great mix of sides/appetizers. The waitress made sure not to order or bring the next course until we were completely finished with the prior course. I would definitely return and would like to try this place for breakfast."

  • "Excellent service and the best French cuisine I've had in Charlotte. A bit pricey, but the food quality, portion size, and service was definitely on par with the cost."

  • "Café Monte was a lot of fun. The staff was very attentive and we really enjoyed our dinner. We came for Queens Feast as a group of women that get together periodically and ride bicycles. We would come again!!"

  • "Thank you, the service was great as usual. The food was excellent and such large portions, I took half home! I love Cafe Monte crepes."

  • "Great food, great wine choices, fair prices for drinks. Miss Laura did a great job taking care of us during the evening."

  • "We were there on a Tuesday night, arrived around 8:15. The restaurant was not overly busy. This place came recommended by a friend, and since it was restaurant week in Charlotte, decided to give it a try. We ordered off a fixed menu, and there were some great choices. However, we were EXTREMELY rushed through the courses. No sooner did we finish our last bite, when the plate was wisked away and the next one thrown down in front of us. They sat us right new the kitchen and an exit door when there were clearly other tables available. Very noisy, very rushed. The food was good. But for the rush factor alone, we probably won't return."

  • "I met up with an old friend at about 2pm on a Sunday. I had the Basil Pistou Penne which tasted great. She had one of the omelettes which equally nice. The cafe was full and the tables were close to together- I thought the noise level was significant. The drinks are generous size-wise, the basil pineapple mojito was so-so but the French Martini was awesome. Unfortunately the kitchen closes at 3pm on Sundays. Must go at least once."

  • "I thought I was going to be able to use the Queen's menu only to be told that it only applied to the evening meal. That was a surprise as it was not indicated when I made the reservation. They have somehow changed their recipe as the French Onion was a disappointment. The escargot was also a bummer...very little broth/juice in each escargot holder and the escargot themselves..very small. Chicken salad is always good."

  • "Stopped in for brunch on 7/19/14. I had the Crab Benedict and my wife had the French Country Breakfast...both excellent. The only issue was the service. Once we were seated, our server, Jennifer, came over. She was very pleasant as we exchanged "Good mornings" and then took our beverage order. Drinks came to the table promptly but that was the last we saw of Jennifer before getting the check from her after finishing our meal. Noticed that other diners in her section were having the same problem. Did mention it to the manager on duty who apologized and offered to comp our meal which we had already paid for. Wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt particularly if she was new but it put a damper on what was otherwise, a great meal."

  • "I've been to Café Monte several times and the food has always been fantastic! A great variety for both the daring and the reserved, all very well executed. What struck me the past two times is how "meh" the service has become. Our waiter on a slow early evening a couple weeks ago needed more than 15 minutes to get us the bill - while we were in a rush to make it to our next event that evening. It was an exasperating end to an otherwise delightful meal. Sunday brunch this past weekend revived my confidence in their service - prompt and basically attentive. My sons order wasn't quite correct, but he'll eat anything so it was no big deal. If their service was as good as their food, it would be my favorite spot."

  • "We ordered the French country breakfast (eggs, bacon or sausage, potato cake, toast & preserves), brioche french toast with banana flammbe, and an omlet. All entrees were delicious! The toast that comes with the french country breakfast isn't your standard toast, it is a cross between toast and a baguette. Initially I didn't think I would like their version of toast because it is really crisp/dry, but once I put the fresh preserves on it, I was hooked. I'm also hooked on their hashbrown cake/patty (ask for ketchup). If you're table is really hungry I highly recommend their brie with apples, so delicious!"

  • "It was the beginning of Queen's Feast restaurant week and it was busy! This was our first time at Cafe Monte and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The xylophone and bass player really added to the ambience and the decor was charming with beautiful pictures of France. We ordered off the regular menu and got the lobster and crab crepes, which were delicious. The sides of asparagus and fingerling potatoes were more than enough for two. The cappucino and espresso torte completed the wonderful experience. The service was accurate and efficient and the presentation a work of art!"

  • "We love eating at Cafe Monte-brunch, lunch, dinner it doesn't matter the food is always good. However, their service could use some work. On our most recent visit the waiter did not explain the cheeses on our cheese plate. he also did not box up our food and quickly stacked our plates on top of each other before we could ask to have it boxed-we had half our steak still on the plate. My husband ordered a coffee and the waiter never asked me if I wanted anything. The hostess was not terribly friend either. It was restaurant week when we went so she was busy, but it took her about 30 seconds to acknowledge us. The management should have recognized how busy they would be and should have had more staff available."

  • "Our first visit to Cafe Mone was great. We visited during Queens Feast but we will return as we really liked the menu and live music."

  • "Food was OK - Service was below average. We have already eaten 3 or 4 times at Café Monte and globally I would say that the quality of the food is not consistent: it could be good as it could be just OK. That time, the endive salad was containing only small pieces of endive, scattered in green vegetables. It was not what I call an endive salad. The canard confit pizza was good. But service is the main problem. So far, all the waiters including the hostess taking care of us have not been very friendly and sometimes rude basically as a French waiter could be (I am French). Service is probably the point that Café Monte has to focus on and improve."

  • "The food is just okay. Mashed Potatoes were cold and baked chicken was dry. Steak was OK not spectacular. Our server was very what do you want and barely had time for us even tough the place was fairly empty - we got the feeling we weren't high class enough to be in their resturant. My Wife got a cocktail - it was $15! Had an amazon local coupon so not sure if that didn't have something to do with it - but it shouldn't matter. In the end, we won't be back."

  • "What a wonderful find Cafe Monte was; the food was incredible, desserts to die for, coffee and Hot Cocoa delicious! So impressed with this place I went back twice in one week! This is huge since I live 45 minutes away."

  • "Took our Son here to celebrate Bastille Day, he 's a French teacher and had just arrived on a Summer road trip. The pate' and cheese plate appetizers were excellent, the wine selection of the day was very good. Entrees looked amazing and tasted the same. I thought they would have a special to celebrate the French Holiday. A great dining experience, and we will definitely return."

  • "The service at our table with Lisa was great. My wife and I we're impressed with her good energy and positive, friendly attitude. She was there checking on us every few minutes and showed pride in her work. The food was delicious. From the hot, fresh bread to the French onion soup to the wonderfully tender chicken in the crepe (awesome by the way), everything hit our taste buds the right way. We'll be returning!"

  • "This was our first experience at dining at Cafe Monte, but it won't be the last! The staff is warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is charming. Everyone in our party of six enjoyed their supper. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. They even have a gluten-free menu. We look forward to visiting Cafe Monte again and trying more dishes from the dinner menu and also visiting for brunch. Sorry it took us so long to discover this gem!"

  • "Although Café Monte is not the most convenient restaurant to our home in Weddington, my wife and I dine here once a month. The combination of exceptional food and wine, the most authentic French ambience this side of the Seine, and reasonable prices makes for a consistently wonderful experience."

  • "Not too impressed with the appetizer cheese plate: Nothing special about any of the cheese. Brie had awful left-out-too-long kind of taste. Filet mignon (special of the day) was great. Mussels and frites: very crispy fried shoe string potato and mussels with creamy sauce was great (I had better, though). Creme brulee: great size for 2 people. Cappuccino with amaretto: could not taste amaretto. Service could have been a lot better. People who were seated after us were served by different waiters before we did. Our waiter did not refill my water, did not bring refill of the small baguette (although asked), and kept swiping sweat on the face with his shirt. Kind of gross. Bathroom was not clean, wallpaper peeling."
