Diner Reviews
  • "Amazing food! I absolutely loved it. I had the squash blossoms and then the veal ravioli. My friend had a pizza and it was also amazing."

  • "Welcome and surprising find in G'town. A robust, traditional, classic venue that is welcoming and accessible to the neighborhood. Great service and superb food. Would welcome a bit of variety on dessert menu but with everything that comes before, you don't tend to miss it. Mangia!"

  • "Cafe Milano is a mixed bag of restaurant and seemingly happening place for DC'ssocial scene/climbers. We were looking forward to our nght out here and while the service was excellent our food was just okay and our dining experience tooloud. Overall, it was overrated and overpriced, to us."

  • "This is a grey place that has really good food and very friendly service. This was Father's Day so it was packed and hectic but we still managed a really nice lunch."

  • "Food was lovely. Our waiter was aloof, bordering on rude. We felt as if we were imposing or had somehow offended him. I was taking my son out for a special lunch and from the standpoint of service we could have been at a Denny's."

  • "We took my parents to Cafe Milano for their 50th wedding anniversary, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. My parents had the red snapper, a special of the day, which they both enjoyed. The serving sizes were the perfect portions. My parents repeated how much they enjoyed the evening, as did we. Thank you Cafe Milano!"

  • "When we are celebrating a special occasion - we go to Milano. When we have had a long week - we go to Milano. Guests in town? Milano! We love it here. The food is delicious and of the highest quality. The capellini Ann Hand is so simple and probably the best pasta dish I've ever had. The staff are top notch, very knowledgable."

  • "Good food, wait staff extremely attentive. It did get very noisy when the dining room filled up. Great location, affordable parking lot across the street."

  • "I recently took two new guests to Cafe Milano, and knowing these two were foodies to the extreme, I am pleased to share they were beyond amazed at the quality of food and service at Cafe Milano. Cafe Milano continues to be a favorite of mine, and once again they topped themselves with service beyond compare (I have misplaced my receipt but I think our server was Sayeed, I hope I am giving proper credit to him, as he was flawless). The stuffed zuchini blossoms, Veal Milanese, risotto with asparagus, the lemoncello dessert are just a few highlights; and the tagliatelle lemon butter pasta prepared in a pecorino romano wheel- this must be seen to be believed, and tasted to know you have gone to heaven. Cafe Milano is heavenly indeed- fabulous!!"

  • "Cafe Milano has class. The service is outstanding, the food delicious, and a superb power lunch location."

  • "The good: The food was all delicious, and our request for a table on the outdoor east side patio was met. The bad: the table itself was pushed back almost into the alley, next to a sort of service area with an automatic light that came on and off with a loud buzz whenever servers walked past. Worse: While all the waiters were friendly to us when they did talk to us, for the most part they seemed to forget we existed. We had to wave our hands for SEVERAL minutes to get a waiter's attention to order, to get our wine delivered--it wasn't brought until we were well into our appetizers. Ditto with trying to order dessert, and then to pay the bill. We also witnessed an unpleasant argument b/n a waiter and busboy which brought down the mood."

  • "Always surprises me when I read a negative review because I've lived here for decades and Café Milano has been a staple in town for many reasons. They take the quality of their food very seriously and they should actually train the 'Café Milano' way of service. Lovely patio areas, very family friendly despite the white table cloths. Will always be a keeper at the top of my list."

  • "I expected it to be expensive which it was. Had lunch. Food was good, service ok although the hostess was a bit cold. I expected the diners to be more professional, seemed more touristy. For the price the ambience is missing."

  • "While the food at Cafe Milano was very good, that quality was not reflected in the staff. From the hostess to our server, we were treated like second class citizens. While our server did apologize for being tardy in the beginning, he did nothing to improve our service as the evening progressed. It seems that if you are not a "regular", you don't matter as we observed him happily greeting other patrons with handshakes and hugs. After serving our coffee, he completely ignored us for over 30 minutes and we finally had to ask a manager for our check. "

  • "Only reason to go here is to fluff your ego. If you want good Italian food in Georgetown, Filomena is much better and so is Il Canale. The latter of which is also much cheaper. "

  • "the wait staff was slow, inattentive and non-respnsive. we were put into a corner table outside, which was fine except for the speaker right above the table. we asked no less than 4 times for the musice to be turned down. it was once but then turned up again. (BTW, it was nondescript noise). finally, a busboy got it turned down for good after the head wait person and our waiter failed. We waited for 15 minutes for the waiter to show to get drink orders. another 20 minutes for the drinks and so on through the meal. food was nice, but the atomosphere (lousy & loud music) cancelled it out. They weren't full...empty tables, so not too busy to provide service. No interest in assuring we had a good experience. NEVER be back!"

  • "Time and time again Cafe Milano delivers. This was a surprise birthday dinner for my wife. I had my in-laws flown in from Puerto Rico to join my sister-in-law, her husband and our two kids (9 & 12). The staff went above and beyond to help pull this off. Following the 5 minutes of tears and emotion, we enjoyed another stellar meal, great wine and an unbelievable ambiance. Thanks again Café Milano. See you again very soon for our next event. "

  • "A dining experience like no other. Fresh authentic Italian food, impeccable service, and a scene that makes you feel like your famous! "

  • "Our server brought so much energy to the evening that we lost time between courses. She was spot on when it came for more drinks, she didn't rush us through each course, and was very conversational throughout the evening."

  • "My sister and I both went on an early Thursday evening visit to Cafe Milano. The dinner crowd had not yet arrived. We arrived on time and were quickly seated. The service was impeccable and prompt. Our meals were superb -- I have the Chilean sea bass and my sister had the ravioli. Both items were cooked to perfection and presented stylishly. The interior of the restaurant is well-designed and immaculate. This was one of the best meals I've had in a DC restaurant and I will certainly return here again."

  • "That's about it! The food is just so-so and overpriced. The service however is great. It would be a great restaurant if the food matched the service! There are much better places with great food AND service."

  • "First time at this GT site. Nice patio and nice welcome. Service went downhill after that. While the foods were well prepared (pasta and pizza) and the tira misu was really good, the lack of service was nerve-wracking. Nothing was offered and had to be asked for: ground pepper, more oil, more bread, pouring of wine, menus, dessert menus... Uggh. The maitre d' was efficient and helpful on the wine but the rest of the crew: forget it. However chic the experience could have been was ruined by the seemingly dismissive treatment."

  • "Sea bass Mediterranean was excellent. Soft shell crab not recommended, texture mushy. Excellent desserts, though pricey. Saturday evening was really busy, yet service was quite efficient. Surprised that a waiter served an entre to a member of our party by passing the dish in front of another guest instead of coming up from behind her to present it properly. Fresh bread which was good, was served without any butter or olive oil which had to be requested. We were not offered a refill on coffee; perhaps the restaurant felt it was time to turn the table over to more diners/$. "

  • "Good food, sort of a 1980s decor and menu though. We come here every year since we met here. Great food."

  • "Cafe Milano is everything you have heard- fabulous food, 5-star service, and more. We dined there Mothers Day, as is our tradition, and once again, I cannot find even a tiny flaw. To begin, the table was ready immediately upon arrival and we were greeted by the friendliest staff in DC! If you have been to Cafe Milano, you know that the service is flawless, but I must highlight Sandy, our server, as she seemed to treat my Parents and other guest, as if we were the only people in the restaurant- WOW! As for the food, I am continually amazed how a buffet can be so amazingly done, with freshness and temperature that makes every bite melt in your mouth- rigatoni, beef, lobster, shrimp, ravioli, canoli, asparagus, and so much more- perfection!! "

  • "This was our first time visiting Cafe Milano and I can't say enough positive things about this place. The service was great, the food delicious and the ambience was lovely. Keeping my fingers crossed that my daughter pics Georgetown University so that we can become regulars!"

  • "Waiter not friendly and did not took time to hear the order well; Gave us two times something else; Not someone with knowledge. Did-not know what a martini is (in italian?) it is too expensive for what is given. Sertainly the wine is average and to expensive. Asked for romantic table and sat between hundred other groups who were shouting. It was more chaos than a decent restaurant. its a brasserie with potential for groups. With little effort the customer sil also be satisfied. Now i think that is now not the first intention. it is succesfull but that doesn't mean its good. "

  • "They were so nice and accommodating. We had a big group who arrived at all different times due to traffic tie ups. We also had some elderly people and they were very helpful and patient. We liked it very very much hand we will definitely come again."

  • "A staple of Georgetown and among DC's best restaurants for food, service and scene"

  • "Food was overpriced and not very tasty. Pasta special was cold and undercooked. Would suggest ordering appetizers and watching the beautiful people. It's a place to see and be seen. "

  • "As always the gracious service was only matched by the delicious food. The biggest bonus is that you can have healthy and delicious food in such a beautiful setting. And it is such fun to see and be scene! Celebrities, the A listers, and folks from the hill mingle with people who love good food. Great fish, salads, pastas and charming, welcoming service always makes for a great experience. Good parking available, too! We are there at least several times a month!"

  • "The service was the problem. We had 3 pm reservations for brunch. The buffet closed at 4pm. The waiter did not even let us know that they were closing the brunch and there was a last call. we practically had to beg for desserts as they were walking away with them! It was very awkward."

  • "We had come to DC for a long weekend for a college orientation for our daughter and had made one reservation for a very nice, celebratory dinner - at Cafe Milano. Upon arrival we were led up and up, to what we called " the nursery." Our girls are 18 and 21, but I guess we weren't groovy enough to be downstairs on the vibrant and happenin' first floor. Every table nearby was filled with children ten and under, and although we love children and the food was delicious, we didn't have nearly the same experience as the apparently hipper downstairs crowd. So, good food and great atmosphere; just insist on first floor seating unless you have very small children."
