Diner Reviews
  • "Cafe Milano was everything we had hoped for and more. My husband had veal and I chose the lamb special on Sat. eve. Our waiter was attentive but not obtrusive. Loved our experience. Waiter was knowledgeable on the ingredients due to my gluten intolerance."

  • "Food was good, but not great. Tried to turn the table almost as quickly as we arrived. Pricey for the quality. Very energetic happening spot."

  • "Despite large crowds, Milano continues to offer superb food, great service and an excellent evening. They always seem to have your table available at the right time and honor requests. The food choices are excellent, with specials every night which augment a large number of menu options. While the veal is a signature dish, they make excellent fish dishes. We both had grouper which was as good as you'll find anywhere. We started with a shared order of fried calamari and zucchini which melted in your mouth. A nice bottle of red, served properly chilled and an after dinner drink made for a delightful evening. Never rushed or pressured, this remains one of the top restaurants in the city IMO."

  • "Great food, great service, fabulous atmosphere...hard to beat. I had the seafood risotto, which was fabulous. Every dish looked great. Look forward to our next visit."

  • "Not inexpensive but good value regardless. The ambiance, service, and presentation is unsurpassed"

  • "Food was great along with the service and atmosphere. It's a great place to take in the DC crowd. Can never say enough about the food as it is my wife's favorite DC restaurant to dine. Norm & Donna Philadelphia"

  • "Excellent food and wine, great atmosphere, though can get a bit loud. In my experience, the quality of service tends to be pegged to the amount you spend. This is unfortunate, but the quality of the food keeps bringing me back."

  • "After living in Italy for 3 years I would have never thought of finding authentic Italian food stateside, but Cafe' Milano hit the ball out of the park with food, service, atmosphere, and overall dining experience. You'll pay for what you get and while it's not cheap. It is very much worth it! The wine list is great. Waiters/staff respond with precision service. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone that wants the ultimate Italian dining experience!"

  • "The food was nothing special, the service was poor and it was impossible to hear anyone in our group unless we shouted. I couldn't wait for the check to arrive so that we could leave."

  • "Café Milano has a great menu and the food is really good. I was disappointed with the service for an upscale restaurant. My date and I made a reservation and seated quickly. However, it was a long wait before we were asked to place a drink and appetizer order. The serve staff seemed very rushed. As soon as a request was made they ran off and my date had to track another person down for additional requests. They did not clean off the table in a timely manner after we finished our appetizer...I had to stack plates on the side of my table to make room. We had to request olive oil and pepper after they put one piece of bread on our side plates. I think its crazy to have to ask for olive oil and pepper/butter at an upscale Italian restaurant."

  • "Had been here before for lunch, but decided to try it for dinner during a quick trip to DC. Service was attentive and the evening looked promising, but within half an hour the place filled up and it became more difficult trying to get a servers attention. At the beginning of our meal, the food was brought out so quickly that we were feeling slightly rushed, but by the end of the meal everyone was attending to other dinners and we had to ask for our check twice before we received it. Additionally, the noise level at our table was ridiculous. Maybe it was the acoustics, but by the end of the night my husband and I couldn't hear each other across a small table. The food was still good, but I think next time I visit it will be for lunch."

  • "The food was very good. The restaurant was very well decorated and had a great feel and bar scene. There were a lot of service people running around...just none by our table. We literally had to flag someone down every time we wanted something (to place our initial drink order, entree order, another drink order, etc.). It was very frustrating, and in fact unbelievable as there were so many service people all around us."

  • "Cafe Milano was outstanding and I cannot wait to go back again! We were greeted promptly and showed to our table by a friendly waitstaff. The quality of the food was outstanding and the wait time wasn't too bad. We told our waiter what type of beer and wine we liked and he found us unique choices I'd never experienced before. Order the calamari - the best I've ever had. The ravioli stuffed with veal, spinach and cheese literally melts in your mouth. Yes, you will be spending a pretty penny, but it's worth it."

  • "great(almost) everything except service, quite annoyingly had to wait for dessert, b.day dessert showed up different as ordered candle melted before all other showed up. waiters where not paying attention, maitre d' didn't even look. it seems at the end a salemen machine. long line for toilettes made it even worse. champagne (moet) not available had to settle for house prosecco (overpriced!)."

  • "Usually I have a pleasant time where the overall , experience--service, food, casual but elegant locale--is positive but with one of them off, the rest does not add up. The restaurant may have been switching schedules from lunch to dinner, but other than reception, the staff was unattentive and a bit haughty, something that made me focus more on the food, which makes me realize how over-prized but acceptable when I feel I'm cared for by the staff."

  • "Expected better for their reputation. Our table was wobbly so they had to put something under the legs to steady it. Food presentation was nothing special. We were told they are known for their veal, but when they placed it in front of me, it was just a slab of meat with grill marks on it. Disappointing. I told them it was a special occasion(my husband's 70th birthday) so i thought we would be seated in a nice spot, but we were put right next to another party, giving us no privacy at all. I must say, our server was very nice. We were not rushed at lunch, but as soon as we started to get up from the table, the matr'd directed two more people to sit at our places. Didn't like that at all. More of a business atmosphere. Sorry I chose it !"

  • "This was our anniversary, we were seated quickly and the table had a nice view of the dining room and outside. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella and then had their home made pastas - veal ragu parpadelle & the strozzapreti and they both were excellent. Our waiter was attentive and helpful and let us linger without feeling rushed. We highly recommend Cafe Milano, and we will definitely return."

  • "For appetizer we ordered some sort of cheese with Avocado, but the avocado was almost non-existent (it was in melt form underneath the cheese), and the price for this was a whopping 20 dollars!! I thought the food was overpriced. Me and my girlfriend both ordered two different style of Veal. Her's was with the bone like lamb chop and mine was thin fillet like steak, but mine was not anything special; it was just plain veal. for about 50 dollars was too much (respectively) it was too much."

  • "My family from La was visiting and I wanted them to experience a restaurant like Cafe Milano. Everything worked out perfectly. The staff was most accommodating and the food, of course, did not disappoint They were thrilled even if George Clooney wasn't there that night."

  • "A fun evening on the town in Georgetown! The food was excellent, and the scene lively. Even early on a Saturday night."

  • "It would be easy to start this review by saying that Cafe Milano is over-rated, but that might be too harsh. Rather they are just a bit presumptuous about what they are versus what they want to be. They are a good italian restaurant. The food is excellent. We had oysters on the half shell for appetizer, linguini with lobster & sea bass over risotto for the two mains, and tiramisu & sfogliatelle for the desserts. The down side is the atmosphere. They want to be a chic, romantic or a high end restaurant. But they jam the tables way too close together and the service was mediocre at best. There were lots of servers and workers moving about and slipping between the tightly packed tables, but not really attentive. Prices way too high for it is."

  • "At first sitting down you want to order a standard Italian meal. That's next to impossible unless you come super hungry. The portions are pretty generous. The only negative is they are a bit heavy on the oil."

  • "We enjoyed our time at Cafe Milano. We where seated right away, but it took our server a while to come to our table to give us our menus and to take our drink order. It was not packed when we got there, but gradually filled up, so not sure why it took him so long to approach us. Other than that the food came fast, followed by dessert and cafe!! Would recommend and would return in the near future for a special occasion! :-)"

  • "The service was really bad. We will not recommend or be back at this venue again. When the food came out, the person who brought it out, just said: watch out! and slammed it on our table and left. It was like we were at a diner. No one bothered to light up the candle at our table. We asked for numerous items many times and they were not brought to us until the end. Our favorite place before this was Vermilion in Alexandria and we wanted to try something new, but this experience only ruined our valentine's day dinner. The food was good, but presentation poor (except for desert, that was good)."

  • "Great service but awful seafood risotto. Salads were okay. Have had dinner and drinks several times before, but this is the worst that the food have been served and the red sauce risotto with seafood was terrible."

  • "We entered the restaurant to find a throng of people in the reception area, apparently all waiting to be seated in the main dining room. With reservations, it was over a 30 minute wait. We were shuffled into the side room to the left of the reception area. A room that looks like it was a converted garage space turned into a dining room with the exception of the ceiling that is painted. At these prices, there should not be any make shift areas to eat. Every time the front door opened, the cold air comes whistling into this dining room. I am not fond of spending 500.00 and to eat in a substandard dining room with zero ambiance."

  • "Once again we enjoyed our meal. Lobster pasta, veal Ragu, whole Bronzino and veal milanaise. All well prepared and seasoned. It would be improved if the waitor had not butchered the filet job on the Branzino. Lots of bones but still melt in mouth yummy. Flour less choc dessert was not as great as usual, but overall a nice night."

  • "Anniversary Dinner: We were greeted and then seated at the [cold, loud] table next to the front door although there were plenty of more desirable tables open. We had reservations and were well-dressed. Service other than that was average. Carpaccio appetizer was wonderful. Main course of sea bass was dry and rubbery. Main course of veal [$50, at the server’s suggestion] was not discernible from $5 schnitzel at a fast food restaurant in Germany. Our server seemed to disconnect once it was obvious the food was not worth eating. We tipped properly, but brought the food home for the dogs. If you want good Italian food, best to go to Italy...DC has drowned in its arrogance."

  • "Cafe Milano was a restaurant that my boyfriend and I were excited to try so we made a reservation for his birthday; Our server for the evening was not very nice and there was a delay in every step of service, like plopping bread on our table without olive oil, he did not stay long enough for us to ask. At the end of the night they surprised us with a candle lit dessert that was delicious. After dinner was over we waited nearly 40 minutes for our check, and asked several times for it. Finally, we got some explanation of the hold up and there "computer system failed" we just got up and met the server at the door to complete payment. I almost wanted to like this restaurant but they lost me on service and food. We will not come back."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. She is a vegetarian and I had let the restaurant know ahead of time. When we arrived we were promptly seated upstairs. Great ambiance and less noise than downstairs. When we inquired about the veg specials, waiter recommended the mozzarella appetizer with kulmato tomatoes. Very good app. Didn't do as well with his dinner recommendation of pasta pecorino cheese with fresh truffles. My wife thought it was very bland. My pasta with main lobster tasted good. However where was the rest of the lobster? Not much lobster for $42. The desert we ordered was excellent. We got a chocolate mousse over a flourless brownie. Overall, a nice restaurant but for$200, we have had much better food."
