If you drive past you will think it is just a little cafe in a strip center, but upon entering you are in a quaint little bistro! I have eaten here often, mainly to have the Lombatello salad. I just couldn't seem to let myself order anything else because I love it so much. It is the perfect lunch or light dinner, with the hangar steak cooked perfectly to your specification. I finally allowed myself to branch out in the evening, and I was not disappointed. The gnocchi is a must! It is "moanable" and everyone at the table always moans with that first bite. We love taking friends there to see their reaction to the gnocchi! I have now tasted all of the entrees, including a few of the specials. None disappointed but my favorites are the Filete (fish of the day over a wonderful risoto) and the Champignon (mushroom tart that is also "moanable"). I will admit that the desserts are the only weak spot here. I haven't tasted them all but haven't had one that motivated me to try any more of them. Oh yeah, the bar selections are great too. We are SO pleased to have them in South Austin where fine dining is limited.

Love the Tex-Mex wine pairing. I have gone several times with different groups of friends. The food is wonderful and the wine choices mate very well with each course. Since it's a new menu each month, it's fun trying new food each time. It's a fun way to spend time with friends.

Disappointing experience compared to past visits. While the service was great, the food was not up to our expectations. They were out of many items and the portion sizes were tiny. My hubby and his cousin had to go to P Terry's on our way home for double cheeseburgers and fries.

Great local gem that my wife and I found by accident. The food and wine are wonderful. Our server, Carly, was not only very knowledgeable but an absolute delight to talk with. She not only provided some of the very best service but made our dining experience one that my wife and I hope to enjoy again. Thanks to Cafe Malta for not only serving great food but having such a great server in Carly.

The food was great, and the service was very attentive, but the food was slow. I think it was because we had 8 people for brunch. My boyfriend and I will be coming back, but just the two of us, since we'll get our food faster.

My filete was super small piece of monk fish, with a few spoonfuls of lovely risotto, and about 10 green beans. My guests enjoyed the Champignon and Artista. It is expensive and very small entres and you really need a starter or salad to begin to be full. I have enjoyed the mussels on other visits. Or plan on dessert...but not the cheescake, it was not cheesy or rich, we did not care for it. I am told the apple tart is good.

We were visiting town while house hunting and looking for a non-chain place to eat on a Monday night. We were taking a new coworker out, so wanted to be sure the experience was nice. The reviews looked great for Cafe Malta, so I placed a reservation through OpenTable. When we pulled up to the strip mall location, I thought "I hope this works out". The minute we walked through the door, we were greeted by amazing smells and a beautiful ambiance. The staff was friendly and the the food wonderful. Service was prompt, and we will definitely be making Cafe Malta the "neighborhood gem" that we bring visitors once we complete our move to the Austin area.

This was my first trip to Cafe Malta with more to come. My daughter and I had an awesome meal with very good drinks and outstanding food. Our server was fast and efficient and never far away. While the restaurant was busy with a couple of large groups we never felt rushed or delayed. I had the ahi with shrimp special and wow what exceptional flavors. the ahi was cooked perfectly. The salad with sweet potatoes is a new twist and very good with a very light lemon vinegarette dressing. The chocolate creme brulee was a new version and left me wanting more. Please increase the dessert size. We completely enjoyed our experience and I will definitely make this one of my future stops when traveling from San Antonio again.

Living near Westgate/Brodie area this has been a favorite go-to location for a last minute date. The menu has items to satisfy non-meat eaters too such as my wife. We always get there between 5-7pm and are able to get a table. However it can get very busy and has a local cult following so you might want to grab a reservation. I've always really enjoyed the farm to table style food and the great drinks and specials as well as the service. Just enough variety to keep me coming back. I've always thought it was a good value too. Our bill is always less than other date spots.

This restaurant came highly recommended by my wife, who with colitis, has a difficult time finding places that can accommodate her diet. We each had the Lombatello salad with hanger steak. The steak was cooked just as I had requested and the gorgonzola aioli dressing was a wonderful compliment to the salad greens. And for us, the water being served in a wine bottle with small glasses was reminiscent of our memorable vacation in Albania. To top it off, I thought this meal came at a very reasonable price for the quality of food that was served. I am looking forward to future visits to try other items on their menu

Cafe Malta is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. This was my first time going to a wine pairing dinner there and they didn't disappoint. Everything paired perfectly except the dessert. The flan was good. The wine was good, but they just didn't work that well together. I would still recommend Malta to anyone that loves food.

We have eaten here a few times and the food and service are always first class. Not a huge menu so the chef is able to provide outstanding dishes that will probably match most everyone's tastes. The mussels are fantastic and one order easily serves two people. I also recommend the brisket stuffed ravioli along with a cold Italian beer. A nice, friendly neighborhood type restaurant.

Happy hour food and drinks were amazing (and really well priced)! Table service was also incredible. Our waitress was so great and she really knew the menu and what to suggest. The service was so quick and the menu looked amazing. We ordered a bunch of things off the menu and shared, which was a very smart choice. Each dish came with more then enough for just one person, but not too much to be a total waste.

We usually go to the Tour de Forks event but it was always crowded. We'd set the reservation around 7:30pm usually. This time, however, it was booked so we went earlier. It's the best time to go. If you are there between 6-7 for Tour de Forks, you're also in their happy hour. So you can get some drinks during the meal for happy hour prices.

Hey guys, This is the 4th time we've attended tour de forks, and I'm starting to see a pattern... not a good one. Every time we go, the meal is amazing! The apertif is delicious, and the 3 main courses are all very tasty, however each time, we've all felt the dessert has been lacking. Y'all have this tremendous opportunity to send us away full and content, but at each of the meals, the dessert has been dry, heavy and almond~y. Now, I know almonds are a staple of the Mediterranean, but Every. Single. Dessert. Dry, heavy and almond~y. No thanks. We are hoping when we come for Lebanon, dessert will leave us saying, ahhhhh, instead, uhhhhh. One more suggestion... perhaps the apertifs could be offered as a happy hour drink special??

Cafe Malta was highly recommended by a friend. As an appetizer I ordered the lamb stuffed squid that was the special . Taste and quality poor. Took a long time to come out and when it did it was cold. My husband ordered the chicken which was served raw in th middle. The waitress finally came by and my husband told her the chicken was not cooked. She said sorry took our plates and came back with desert menus. We were taken back that she did not offer to bring another chicken plate or something else so we just asked for the check. To top it off she charged us for the raw chicken that my husband did not eat. We told her we would not be paying for that plate. Owner came over and apologized and made adjustment. Won't go back.

This place always has good food. The biggest problem is the ticket time. When my Wife and I are the only ones in the restaurant and they still have a 35 minute ticket time there is a problem. We love this place for the quality of the food and the prices are great. But when we come in at 11:00 AM and are the only guests in the restaurant and we order a Medium Rare Malta Burger and the Linguini and it talks 35 minutes there is a problem. (Not to mention) the burger was "well done" & the frits were half cooked at best. Great food, Great atmosphere. But if your have a short lunch this is not the place for you. My only question is what happens when they have several guest in at one time? 1 hour ticket time?? We will probably go back.

We were not expecting much when we drove up-it is in a very non-distinct shopping center. LOVED the Hummus! It tasted like it was fresh ground just before it came to our table. The Eggs Malta were wonderful with crispy pancetta and a hearty biscuit. My daughter had the Gnocci and the cream garlic sauce was divine. We will be back.

Very good experience at Cafe Malta. Reserved table was ready on time despite the place being packed. It is vibrant and fun. Excellent, knowlegable waiter who was able to recommend off menu items to accomodate my daughter's finicky palate. The food was good, but not exceptional. With a bit of tweeking on the menu, they could really do well. I'll be back (sans kiddos) for date night or with friends when we can hang out longer and try some other menu items.

We had an 08:00 pm reservation. We were finally seated about 08:40. They were out of several of the dishes we wanted by the time we were able to order. The food we were able to get was not the best--salad was a bit limp, and the bread for the appetizer was burnt. It was a busy Friday night. Maybe they were off their best effort. Be a while before we go back.

Everything about the experience was excellent. We had a reservation and a table was set for us. From beginning to end, we enjoyed our meal, especially the frilled peaches at the end. But then the waiter told us another party had a reservation and we had to leave. We had only finished paying a few minutes earlier! We're not the type to linger for an unusual amount of time. Perhaps the restaurant will want to space out their reservations a bit more to make this a perfect place to dine.

My wife and I have been to Café Malta 3 times: once for lunch, and twice at the cafe's First Tuesday Tours de Fork, in which the theme of the dinner is a country or area within the Mediterranean region. The lunch was delicious, though not exceptional. But the Tours de Fork WERE exceptional. The Tours take the form of a $25 prix-fixe menu of 2 choices for each of the first 3 courses, plus a dessert. The focus on a country or area enables the chef to choose items that characterize the area but are not necessarily familiar to Americans. So far we've thoroughly enjoyed all 14 menu items at our 2 Tours. We plan to be regular First Tuesday diners from now on. The wines are mostly from the Mediterannean region; we've liked all our choices.

I had heard great things about Café Malta and I was excited to finally try it myself. So I was really disappointed when the food was just so so. I ordered the appetizer of the day which was sausage stuffed mushrooms and they were dry and just not special in any way. I then had the Halibut served on a bed of something with the texture of watery hummus - grainy and runny at the same time. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the texture of the stuff it was served on was yuck and the presentation was off putting. There was apple and Prosciutto in the mush which gave it some flavor but really it was the color of clay. My dessert mousse with candied pecans was delightful. Service was fine, noise level got pretty loud, just not special.
