  • "Nestled just off the McKinney square, Cafe Malaga's excellent cuisine and beautiful large outdoor dining is a true hidden gem. We've been twice and each time had an absolutely lovely experience. I don't believe the restaurant received the note that it was my wife's birthday but even if they did offer a free desert we wouldn't have been able to eat it."

  • "The music was way too loud. We couldn't converse. One person in our party left. To top it off the band wasn't even that great."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in McKinney. It is a true gem. Great service and food."

  • "the food was very good, next time I will try a full meal but eating tapas is great as it gives an opportunity to try different things. It was our anniversary and it was all good."

  • "Great place. Had a blast and absolutely fabulous food. Love the bacon covered dates and the Don Picillo peppers. Sat on the patio and had a wonderful time for my husbands birthday."

  • "Sitting out back under the trees, you kind of forget that you're just off the square in downtown McKinney. My wife loves the goat cheese stuffed sweet peppers and the roasted potatoes. Personally, I think the bacon wrapped dates are amazing. Food wise, the only thing we had that I didn't like was the fondue. The consistency was more like a cheese soup, not fondue, and they served it with cheese covered bread. Why I need cheese bread to dip in a cheese soup was a mystery. Aside from the fondue, I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend Cafe Malaga to anyone looking from something a little different than the chain restaurants that haunt us in the Dallas suburbs."

  • "This is a great place for a larger group. We had 14 people and never had to wait for our food or drinks. Fun to sit outside and listen to the band while eating."

  • "not served 30-40min after being seated. Not even a waiter. Did not have a chance to taste the food so that is why 1 star as 0 not allowed."

  • "Very nice restaurant menu great. The waitress was very poor. Needs to ask more questions about what we want. A smile would go a long way."

  • "About a block off the square, this restaurant is truly one of downtown McKinney's gems. We went with two other couples and shared a handful of the "large" tapas. Each and every one of them was delicious and we all had to show restraint in not ordering more."

  • "There were 6 of us in our party & it was the first time for all of us to go to your restaurant. We were not welcomed by our server, he didn't explain how things worked & to get ANYTHING from him was like pulling teeth. I made a reservation here based on my bosses experience, but this was the worst."

  • "We love Cafe Malaga. The food is REALLY good, and you can get a variety of foods for a reasonable price. The service is consistently great, as well."

  • "Love the food though - always consistently good tapas. Fun to try lots of different dishes. Wish they still had the old menu - it had some delicious items on it that my family misses!"

  • "We've been here several times and the food is always great. One of our favorites is the hummus but it never comes with enough pita bread. We always have to order additional pita and it usually takes quite a long time to receive. Service also tends to lag for drink refills. We know this is a busy place but a little more attentiveness would be appreciated."

  • "Great restaurant, close to downtown McKinney. Reasonably priced, and great ambience...especially if weather is nice enough for outdoor dining. Live music was a very nice touch as well, but not too loud so as to not allow one to hear the person you're having dinner with. Will definitely recommend Cafe Malaga to others."

  • "While the tapas style dining at Malaga cannot be compared to Samar, it's nice not having to drive 50 miles from McKinney into downtown to have Spanish cuisine. The lollipop lamb chops marinated in beer are very good, and the Don Piquillo peppers are full of flavor. It's probably one of the best suburban experiences, located in an old residence off downtown McKinney with off-street parking and a welcoming patio. If the feel is too crowded on a Friday, a late Saturday afternoon leisurely wandering through their menu makes for a fun date."

  • "My impression started on a Wednesday night when my wife and I stepped in to have a glass of wine, I walked around the whole place and couldn't find a worker just two sets of guest sitting and talking (we finally left). Friday night my wife and I decided to give it one more try for our date night. When the girl brought our food it was just put on the table on the opposite side my wife and I were sitting so she could hurry on. I reached across the table grabbed the plates and placed them in front of us then plates weren't picked up after we finished. I told our main server to speak with her, so she then interrupted our conversation to confront us (I explained) then she just walked away Not given enough characters to allowed to fully explain"

  • "If you are looking for a place to relax with friends, maybe hear a live band and drink some wine while noshing on a few tidbits, Cafe Malaga is a good choice in downtown McKinney. You can tell when you walk up that this used to be someone's (large) house property, which has now been converted into a restaurant. When the weather is nice, you can sit on the large back porch or down in the courtyard while you dine. On the weekends they often have live bands playing. If the weather isn't cooperating, there are tables available inside, as well. The prices are relatively high for what it is, but you're paying for the experience and ambiance as well. I recommend the lamb chops, a cheese platter, and the chicken kabobs. Enjoy yourself!"

  • "Reasonable selection for a Tapas restaurant. Service could use some work as could the interior dining. Could see the large outdoor courtyard as a great venue during the warmer seasons. Food was just OK but appropriately priced. Not sure why the reviews indicated this as expensive. Have spent much more (but also received better) at othe tapas restaurants."

  • "Cafe Malaga is one of my wife's (and my) favorite dining spots. The Spanish cuisine is authentic and incredibly flavorful. While one can order an entree and just make it a standard dinner, we really enjoy the variety of dishes we get from the tappas portion of the menu. We ordered six different dishes and they were all wonderful. Be adventurous and your tastebuds will be rewarded. The service is extremely good as well; very friendly and fast."

  • "This was my 3rd time to Cafe' Malaga. I love the food/decor/service. 1st time w/friends, we sat outside. The patio is wonderful! It was fall & perfect. In colder months, heaters make it comfortable. The 2nd time there, we dined inside & tried many dishes. The sweet peppers stuffed w/ goat cheese are my fave! 3rd visit was w/another couple that wanted to try it. Everyone there was so friendly, starting w/the owner greeting us, Phoenix, the bartender took good care of us while waiting for our friends, the hostess was sweet, & our waiter (forgot his name-young guy with a beard) was outstanding - friendly/attentive & we never felt rushed, as we decided on items, & visited after the meal. Love it here, & will keep going back. Worth the drive!"

  • "This restaurant is in a cute location in a quaint old house just off the historic McKinney square. There was hardly anyone there on a Wednesday night but we did enjoy half-price wine night. The service was good but we were disappointed that there were a number of wines and menu items not available because the restaurant is in the process of changing their menu. The tapas that we tried were great!"

  • "I love this restaurant. The ouside patio has a great ambiance . The choice and quality of the Tapas is very good. Best cheese board we have had and the drinks are good. We will be back!"

  • "We have eaten there twice. Both times the food was excellant, the service was great, our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and a comlete delight. They serve tapas, so you get to try a variety of their offerings - each one better than the other. We ordered some new ones this time and some that we had ordered before and the quality was the same. I would recommend the Lamb Chop Lollips, the Chicken Pirra Pirra, the fondue, Malaga salad, well really everything - we did not have anything that all 4 of us did not really like. Great place to go. The Paella presentation was especially beautiful. Be sure to make a reservation. They have a great outdoor section which we are looking forward to trying when the weather gets better."

  • "We are avid Tapas fans and this was our first stop to find a Tapas home in DFW area. This place did NOT disappoint! We had a total of 9 tapas between the two of us (the prices are great, but note the portions are sized to price)! They do offer each tapa as a small plate or an appetizer, but we didn't try the appetizer sizes. The food is outstanding (you have to try the lamb). We had a variety of tapas from chicken, seafood to veggies and all were good. The service was great although it was quiet the day we went. They have a very large outdoor area that has firepits and other amentities that would make it fun to go dine when the weather is warmer. I believe the waiter mentioned they also have live music. Highly recommended!"

  • "Great place to eat and hang with family and friends. Superb menu and quality food without the uptight atmosphere. This was my third visit and all three times have been 100% consistent. Will continue to go and recommend it to all."

  • "We've been dining @ Café Malaga since they were a tiny hole in the wall on the square in McKinney. The new location generally assures we'll be able to get a table, but would highly recommend making reservations during events such as Valentine's or during the Homecoming/Prom seasons. Food has always been reliably very good (especially love their bacon wrapped dates & mussels), as has the service. Outside dining is always lovely. Have been when there is live music both inside and out, which can be loud, but also a fun change. Highly recommend. One of our go-to places when we want a 'nicer' date night - definitely NOT a chain restaurant, thank goodness. Gave it a 4/5 because I don't think I've ever given any place a 5."

  • "Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Live music is good too., but mostly Yum! Lots of choices, and all have been so good. This is the place we take people from out of town. Great atmosphere, inside or out. Wait staff is excellent too. All round great experience and food."

  • "Great Tapas restaurant in McKinney, TX. Food was excellent, service was fair, slow to get our order taken, then it was fine. A little pricey but food was worth it. Avoid the fondue, get he lamb lollipops and the dates warped in bacon. Croquettes and chorizo were great. Solomillo was divine"

  • "I was a bit skeptical after reviewing the menu before we joined another couple out for dinner at Cafe Malaga, but I was impressed. Between 4 of us we tried many different tapas and there was not one that we did not like. The Solomio, Chicken Piri Piri and Fondue were all great. The service was good, but the waiter did forget my wife's wine once and after we got home we realized there was 1 tapa that we ordered that was never delivered. We sat outside even though it was a bit chilly outside. They have outdoor heaters that helped keep us comfortable. The atmosphere was very nice. I do warn you that after a couple of drinks and several tapas the bill can get up there, it is definitely not a cheap place. All and all a good experience."
