  • "Bad service. Bad food. Had to send back 3 items (out of 6). Everything was too salty. Most was overcooked. One item was left under a heat lamp so long that the sauce dried out around the edges. Totally disorganized restaurant. I blame management. When we left we heard other patron's complaining about the food too. (This used to be a fine restaurant 15 years ago. How times has changed.)"

  • "They do a great tradition of drinking the sangria there. "fruit punch" for non-drinkers. The paella is amazing but needs to be ordered in advance. Ten fingers up!"

  • "The quiet personal space feels so European. Can't even begin to explain the decadence of flavors, portions and presentation. Everything was a surprise for those in my party who have never been there. Can't wait for the patio to open."

  • "Tapas are a favorite, and some of the best in the valley are at Cafe Madrid. Seasonal, presentation, and melding of flavors are amazing. Robert, our Server, is most knowledgeable and makes dining even more of an experience with his recommendation of food and wine!"

  • "The server took my left over to the kitchen and never brought it back to me. I don't eat a lot, so I decided to save some for later, but I think he was too busy to remember. He was serving too many tables at the same time. We also asked him for the dessert/coffee menu and never got it, until a different server asked if we wanted dessert or something else. We love this restaurant, but for the amount of money we are spending these things shouldn't occur. Thanks."

  • "We went for a family dinner with our adult kids and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and we all loved it. Also, we didn't feel rushed when we wanted to linger and chat. We'd definitely recommend Cafe Madrid!"

  • "For our 15th anniversery we wanted to find a nice restaurant with amazing food, but nothing pretentious or over done. Cafe Madrid really came through! Our server was friendly and personal while still making us feel special. He made wonderful suggestions on both tapas and wine. Very comfortable space, great food, and great wine, what more could you ask for?"

  • "Cafe Madrid has been one of our favorites for years, its food is prepared well and the menu is notable. This time we shared a paella with tow other couples (you must order the paella a day ahead--an order for three is enough for six). The paella was delicious, yet the evening was somewhat disappointing, as the table arrangement was rather crowded, with hardly enough space for the dinner ware and wine glasses; also, the waiter assigned to our table was extremely unfriendly and provided poor service."

  • "An amazingly wonderful but different dinning experience. Excellent food, outstanding waiter, beautiful dinning area. Relaxed, romantic, very special."

  • "We have been to Cafe Madrid several times now and love the food! The staff is well trained and are great at helping to navigate the menue and choose food that works well together. We always feel well taken care of and love to eat out here especially for a special occasion. We are already looking forward to another visit."

  • "We love Cafe Madrid. Always great food and awesome place to relax. Make sure you are not in a hurry - dinner will take time, it's not slow, but there is a Spanish "no rush" atmosphere."

  • "I have to admit, I am pretty picky when it comes to fish. When I order out (or buy for home cooking as well), it has to be perfectly fresh. I expect the chef to prepare it carefully, cook it exactly right, and serve it in a manner that does not distract from the fresh taste of the fish itself. Cafe Madrid continues to outperform with fish. This time I ordered the sea bass with shrimp sauce, and it was exceptionally well prepared and presented. The sauce was a compliment and in no way overwhelmed. Presentation was quite artistic and functional. Taste was off the charts. I was very pleased, and recommend that any patron try one of the fish entrees when visiting Cafe Madrid. I will visit again next time I am in Salt Lake City."

  • "We only come once or twice a year but, it is always our favorite. Juan Carlos is an excellent host and great source of recommendations. The wait staff is always attentive but, never hovering. The kitchen never overlaps our main course with our appetizers and we are never rushed. It is pricey if you end up with appetizers, main course, wine and dessert but, well worth every penny."

  • "With th recent addition of Master Chef Franck Peissel, Cafe Madrid has become the best restaurant in Salt Lake City. Phenomenal authentic Spanish cuisine, with Franck's unique European flair, and outstanding service make you feel like an honored guest in their home."

  • "From my first step onto the stone entrance portico, I was greeted warmly and ushered unhurriedly to my seat. Cafe Madrid's staff understands how to be responsive without being "in your face." I chose the menu complete selection -- octopus as appetizer, snapper entree and a chocolate selection for desert, and I must say at $29.00 it was a terrific value and fully noteworthy. Compliments to the chef who brought together the flavors of the entree, especially. Really excellent. I will most certainly return on my next visit!"

  • "We dine at your restaurant for every special occasion my husband and I have. Birthdays, anniversary, a romantic night out. It is always a WOW factor for us. The service and food is excellent. I tried one of your specials this last weekend and it was incredible. Thank you for always making us feel at home Juan Carlos."

  • "we loved the style and ambiance, service was excellent, fun time pairing tapas and sauces for a commentary meal. the food was good, not great, but definitely a worthwhile stop. staff was excellent and engaged in just the right amount of conversation to make us feel at home without being overwhelming. we will return when we want a little adventure and a romantic date night, but not when we are looking to be wowed by amazing food or to leave over filed."

  • "Cafe Madrid does a splendid job introducing American tastes and expectations to the Spanish dining experience. It offers a beautiful dining area which is uncrowded and relaxed. Staff is ready with great suggestions whether it is your first time at CM or you are a repeat visitor. On our most recent visit we enjoyed hot tapas, an asparagus salad, roast breast of duck and sorbete de limon, followed by a fantastic cup of freshly pressed decaf. The wine suggestion made by our server was perfect with our meal. Serving sizes are a bit closer to American tastes and it was nice not to have to be dining at 11 p.m. as the Spaniards do. We enjoyed a nice chat with the owner as she came by to make sure all was well and to thank us for our visit."

  • "We were welcomed by the friendly staff and seated right away. The food was very good. We tried an assortment including the yummy chicken soup, grilled cheese, spanish sausage and the lemon mousse. The fish special was excellent too. We will visit again. Good for lunch too"

  • "I was looking for a nice, comfortable place where we could relax and enjoy good food and long conversations. This was NOT the place. The atmosphere is awkwardly over elegant, the servers and hosts seemed very snooty, the food was overpriced, portions were tiny, and we didn't even finish what little was offered because it was not good. The table we were seated at was in the middle of a crowded walk way and the music was so loud we had to keep asking each other to repeat what we had said. Overall, a very poor experience for us."

  • "We were celebrating an anniversary and the evening was wonderful. However, the main course was very disappointing for both guests . We felt it was basic and very overpriced. Our Appitizers were great and service was outstanding. Would love to give the place a second try. It was a busy Valentines Friday and Saturday so I'm willing to give this location a second chance"

  • "They were overbooked and short staffed. It took 30 min to order and I had to ask "can you take my order" otherwise it would have taken longer. I had salmon "one inch slice" for over $27, the asparagus was cooked to perfection and I was given a lot or else I would have starved. Our waiter made the comment that we all cleaned our plates, well that is because we weren't given much to eat! Our waiter was very nice but he had to take care of too many tables. Because of all the people it was hard to carry on a conversation with the others at my table. I think they had a problem with their online reservation system. Hopefully they will fix that and you can enjoy your meal without a crowd."

  • "Overall underwhelmed. Food was just ok, but not good enough to bring me back. Portions are fairly small relative to similar The two person tables are horrible, request a booth. The tables seemed to be designed for patio use. The surface was uneven and made dishes and glasses wobble and precarious. They also have a bar in between the table legs that prevent you from extending your legs under the table and the legs are right where your knees would typically be. Overall a horrible table and the restaurant would be doing its patrons a service to replace them. Would recommend looking elsewhere for a romantic evening. Tuscany was a good bet that isn't too far from here and with better food and ambiance."

  • "The ambience was great. Very romantic with candlelight, flowers, and nice music. However for the amount of food we got we paid a lot. 7 pieces of bacon wrapped shrimp for $11.50... $30 for about 5 bites of fish. You are definitely paying for the experience as a whole and not for the food."

  • "Wow, we were greatly disappointed with our Valentine dinner. This has always been one of our favorite spots in the past but this night was extremely overpriced. There was a set menu and the selection was limited. Proportions were extremely small, so for $69 pp we got a sausage link, small salad, small paella ( boring cheap rice dish) Red Snapper and Pork Cheeks with a small desert. All items were warm not hot and we were there at 5 and left at 7. Service took forever even though we were one of the first couples to arrive. I will give them another chance but for $170 I was severely disappointed"

  • "We were seated at a small patio table brought inside and crammed into a high traffic area. The waiter took 10 to 15 minutes to acknowledge us and was not pleasant. The dinner course included an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert - it took TWO hours to complete. The service was so incredibly slow I actually used my iPhone to time how long it took between courses. Overall, we felt the food was well prepared and very flavorful (Grade A-). The service was unfriendly and very slow (Grade F). The high traffic and small patio table was ridiculous. If the staff were paying attention, our dinner service would have only taken one hour (which would have given us plenty of time to chat and not feel rushed) and they would have received bigger tip."

  • "My wife and moved to Utah about a month and heard this was a very nice restaurant, so I decided to make a reservation for valentines day. It was awkward from the start. We had to wait around for about a half hour after our res to be seated. There is no bar, so we had to stand in the lobby with 20 others. Finally we were seated at a patio table with a table cloth. Had about a foot between is and the tables next to us. Found out there was a valentines menu that was way over priced. The service and food was mediocre at best. We won't be back."

  • "Outstanding venue for celebrations of all kinds. Birthdays, Anniversaries, group events, etc. This was my fourth dining experience at Café Madrid and each has topped the previous in overall satisfaction. I've dined alone and, most recently, hosted a dinner for eight following a divisional sales meeting with equal result of excellence. The flavors are unique and crisp. The wine list is superb. The tapas are exquisite. The staff has a genuine desire create a customized dining environment per table. Ask to be seated at Raul's table !! This restaurant is a satisfaction guaranteed location."
