A word from Cafe Luxembourg
In 1983, Café Luxembourg opened its doors to become the quintessential neighborhood bistro of the Upper West Side. The dining room of this charming 90 seat restaurant glows in the warm light of the Jean Perzel fixtures and antique mirrors.

Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.

The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.

I love this restaurant. I have been coming here for years and it seems like nothing has changed, which in this case is a very good thing. The staff are gracious and friendly. They do everything they can to take care of you. It is always busy there but never too loud that you can't have dinner conversation. I will continue to come back over and over and bring my friends. Oh and yes the food is delicious. PS Try the Three naked Ladies Cocktail

Very friendly hostess and wait staff; the service was excellent. My only problem is the tables so close together with loud-talking customers making conversation difficult; nothing you can do about it I guess. Noise is an issue. I gather restaurants think that's a good thing, but I don't.

Our bill was over $800 yet our waitress was rolling her eyes at our group of 8 for needing time to assess the menu. She also was constantly trying to upsell the group into additional items. We brought a birthday cake and paid the cutting fee, but she will was trying to get people to order more dessert. I have dined here 5 times before this and had fairly good to excellent experiences, however I won't be again soon after this. My food was really salty. I had the country salad and moule frites, but favorites of mine at a french restaurant. So dissapiinting salmon tartar was great, tried my cousins!

When you're at Cafe Luxembourg, you might as well be in Europe. People always say, "It's so New York," but not these days, because restaurants in New York, San Francisco and Chicago are deafening. Cafe Luxembourg earns its reputation for congeniality because it has the European dining formula down: dinner out is all about having great food and great conversation with people you find interesting enough to spend an evening with. Like the vast majority of European restaurants from Paris to Vienna to Rome, Cafe Luxembourg does not have a music sound track, so customers need not shout to be heard. The food is marvelous! One complaint: unlike European restaurants, the wait staff is very aggressive about upselling and trying to move you out.

We've been going to Lincoln Center for many years, and have not gone to Cafe Luxembourg based on some unfavorable reviews. I am happy to say they were wrong. The staff was very friendly. Our waiter very attentive without being intrusive. Service was efficient and got us out in plenty of time for the concert. The food was great. The quail appetizer outstanding. The red trout entree wonderful. We will definitely be back.

I hadn't been to CL in years when a friend suggested we meet there for lunch. I ordered the tuna burger and was blown away by how delicious it was. I have now been back at least half a dozen times for the burger alone. On the rare occasion that I have tried something else, it has been equally as sensitively prepared and tasty.

Our daughter told us not to miss Cafe Luxembourg for dinner during our recent visit to Manhattan. One of her favorites is the hamburger sandwich and it was absolutely, "melt in my mouth" delicious! The atmosphere was intimate and very quiet. It was the perfect place for dinner before our nearby evening theater performance. The wait staff were friendly, yet very professional and efficient. What an excellent choice this charming restaurant proved to be!

Overall I really like this place, but the last visit had a more limited menu. The escargot pasta was a bit disappointing as the combinations of flavors was odd, so to pay about $180 for 2 people with an average bottle of wine and no dessert, I think we felt a little let down. We'll try this again as we love the spot and once inside, it feels like your are truly in a neighborhood bar in a quaint european town.

Cafe Lux has been one of our go-to places for Lincoln Center pre-theater for many years. The $36 appetizer/entree pre-theater special is more than fair and is just the right size meal before a performance. Service is efficient, the room is attractive and quiet enough for easy conversation, and it is just a 5 minute walk to Lincoln Center. In an area deficient in quality restaurants, this is a solid choice. You won't climb any culinary heights here but the food is above average and reliably tasty and properly prepared. On this visit we had the chicken (excellent) and the salmon (very good) as mains, and the pate (good) and mixed salad (average) to start.

If you can deal with good food and incompetent service then Cafe Luxembourg would be a good choice. My family joined me for a birthday brunch and all of left disappointed because of the poor service. I wish could say that it was just a bad waiter, but even the manager seemed indifferent when I raised the issues with her. We had heard good things about the restaurant, but I can't see us returning, too many other good choices on the UWS where they actually appreciate you business.

After all these years, the food is still tasty, enticing and dependable:Bistro food now served with a slightly healthier twist on some dishes. The service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance was lively, even if a bit noisy. Unfortunately, the decor is looking a bit tired and the table spacing too tight. My very slim partner had to constantly move his chair in for the wait staff and patrons to squeeze by.

I go to C.L. all the time and it's always exactly what I want. Great bistro food in a busy neighborhood with a busy atmosphere but intimate enough to visit with a good friend. Attentive service that gives you what you want when you want it, but not so on top of you that you feel you have to rush. I would not order the mushrooms on toast again. It tasted like cream of mushroom soup poured over toast with a stip of proscuitto on top. But everything else was great and the season homemade ricotta donuts dipped in jam or nutella were extraordinary.

We have eaten at this restaurant many times before, but after last night I doubt we will be going back for many years. Firstly the Maitre d' ignored us, then we waited a long time for our table, then the wrong appetizers came..then our waiter was changed..then entrees came out and mine was not even there...what a saga....but when all the food came out mine was terrible and my wife's was inedible...this used to be restaurant with a wonderful French feel to it.....well the French have left town...and there are so many great restaurants in the area don't bother with Cafe Luxembourg any longer.
