A word from Cafe Luxembourg
In 1983, Café Luxembourg opened its doors to become the quintessential neighborhood bistro of the Upper West Side. The dining room of this charming 90 seat restaurant glows in the warm light of the Jean Perzel fixtures and antique mirrors.

Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.

The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.

Diner Reviews
  • "A casual brasserie in a convenient spot on the Upper West Side, featuring excellent French fare and unusually friendly service."

  • "In a city where 10% of the restaurants go out of business every year, it is significant that Cafe Luxembourg is still excellent and crowded after thirty years. The staff is friendly and accommodating, service is fast and attentive, and food is excellent. Even the prices, for an established Manhattan restaurant near the Beacon Theater and Lincoln Center, are attractive. And while the room can get a bit noisy when filled, it isn't impossible to have a conversation. All in all, a reliable go-to destination."

  • "With red leather banquettes and wicker seats, very strange décor. Our salmons both had a good crispy top but the inside temperatures were off. One was raw and the other was well done. My burger was equally ill-prepared, it was ordered medium rare and it was overcooked, dry and borderline flavorless; bacon was very salty, I did like the Gruyere. The frites were very good. If we had the time (we were catching a concert) all of the entrees would probably have been returned to the kitchen. The server was very good, she knew the menu was helpful and professional. The other staff was challenged. They could all use a bit of retraining. Café Luxembourg is a diner trying to serve French cuisine."

  • "The entrees are quite good (although one person's salmon was overcooked); but, a little expensive for what you get."

  • "The "Cafe Luxembourg" is unfortunately relying upon an Upper West Side location to enhance the reputation of what looks to be an old 50's diner that is serving casual French cuisine. Red high backed booths with old tile and tables with wicker seats fill the space. Tables had to be physically moved aside to allow my wife, who is very petite, access to her seat (same again upon departure - the table of regulars next to us clearly used to the table shuffle). Fine dining this is not. Devoted locals say what they may, this restaurant is in need of a serious update. Myself -Tuna Crudo (flavorless), followed by a thankfully well prepared Pork Duo as the main My wife -Mixed Greens, followed by a less than thrilling Yellowfin Tuna Burger"

  • "This restaurant is perfect for Sunday brunch! My omelette and salad were perfection. The service was outstanding. Warm and charming, Cafe Luxembourg has character and has been one of my best food experiences on the upper West Side."

  • "This restaurant is an oasis for Lincoln Center visitors! Excellent food and terrific service as well as friendly customers. My wife and I have been here half a dozen times and love the place."

  • "Don't know how many times we've been to CL over the last several years, but last night's visit was one of the best. My salmon entree was delicious, Andrew practically licked the plate of his pork duo, and Ilana provided superb service."

  • "a favorite in a city filled with bespoke restaurant."

  • "We live in California, but Cafe Luxembourg is a destination for us. We love it. It is mostly patronized by neighborhood locals, but we think it's wonderful. It has a very New York feel and it's a fun place to people watch and to enjoy snippets of overheard conversations. It is very lively and energetic. The steak frites and the hot fudge sundae are favorites."

  • "We went to this place just before an event at the Jewish Community theatre and had a wonderful time! I will definitely be going back when I have more time to enjoy a nice long meal. My friends loved it as well."

  • "Had pre-theatre dinner here. They offer a very fairly priced prix-fixe that covers almost everything on the menu. Onion soup was delicious. The pork was so-so; my friend had the mushroom and rachlette dumplings and fava bean falafel, which she liked very much. Cocktails were nice, service was very good. They find out if you are going to theatre when you make the reservation, confirm when you get there that you still have theatre plans, and then time the meal accordingly. Quality place."

  • "overpriced. We paid $115.00 for two very inferior lobster rolls, two glasses of wine, one dessert, 2 coffees."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Lunch menu is decent for bistro fare, wine list is pretty good, service is overly familiar and rather amateurish, tables are tightly grouped together, prices are on the high side."

  • "Cafe Luxembourg is always welcoming and friendly, and the food is good. This time (a Friday night), though, the preparations seemed a bit rushed, and suffered as a result. I've had the spring salad about four or five times in recent months, and each time the ingredients seem a little skimpier, though still tasty. The moules are being served in a tall narrow pot that makes the broth almost inaccessible beneath the layers of moules stacked above, and this time the broth also seemed very scant. Since the broth can be the best part, the dish was a little disappointing. Still, great place, and I'm always happy to return."

  • "Terrific spot for "cafe" dining. All menu items are consistently well prepared and service is excellent. Staff is very alert to theater timetable and will get you out on time without a feeling of being rushed. Bustling and busy with tables and other diners nearby."

  • "We go here more regularly than any other restaurant and the reason is the atmosphere and food. And warmth of the staff. They also make you feel very welcome. Always. LOVE sitting at the bar for a Friday night dinner with my husband. Will continue to go back regularly as long as I can!"

  • "Happy to return to an UWS neighborhood staple! Four friends dining, pre-theatre. Nice to have the option of a 2 course $36.00 price fixe. The "girls" LOVED the Spring salad- with dandelion greens and fruit. Very arty! Husband LOVED the French Onion soup! 2 guests thought the clams, while plentiful, were small in size and not tasty."

  • "The team at Cafe Luxembourg ensured we had an enjoyable brunch. They were flexible when our group size expanded, there was never a shortage of coffee and we all enjoyed our brunch. Cafe Luxembourg is a neighborhood gem, love that such a great cafe is close by."

  • "I love it here. We have been dining here since we lived in Manhattan over 28 years ago. We had the best waiter, a wine - Irancy - that we've never found outside of France. The profiteroles here are the best and I've had many profiteroles! Wonderful, lively ambiance. Can't wait to return!"

  • "I love this place but HATE being charged for a refill on a glass of ice tea or soda! It cost's them nothing and while I understand they're in business to make a profit, it just feels tacky and cheap."

  • "A great spot for an early dinner, less crowded and the food is always good. Super cheese choices."

  • "especially in spring and summer, their seasonal specials are always refreshing and delicious. Asparagus vichicoise and green salad with fresh beans, peas, shoots of all kinds of wonderfulness....yum"

  • "There was a 30+ person group there and they were very noisy, otherwise everything quite wonderful. Have been there many times and never before encountered a large group there. It was after 11PM, which made it even more surprising."

  • "I always enjoy coming here. The food is without fail fresh and excellently prepared. Where did they get those fantastic early June tomatoes! The ambience is European without being frosty, in fact, everyone is always very friendly and accommodating. As it is always busy, it can get noisy, but the management does its best to accommodate. Excellent service. Just a bit pricey."

  • "Cafe Luxembourg is a gem! The servers are so polite and courteous and allow you to sit 'til your heart's content. They understand great food needs to be savoured and friendships benefit from leisure meals. The food is creative and first class. The atmosphere has an older classic vibe that made me feel I could depend on its history for excellent food and service."

  • "The food and service were good, but the noise level was terrible! People sitting on either side of us were shouting to make themselves heard above the din. Not a very pleasant evening, not sure we'd return."
