Service is generally good, and depending on your server, exceptional. I have had some of the absolute best waiters ever there, and then some that are fine, but un-exceptional. Other than that uncertainty, everything else is top notch!

It has the ambience of a genuine Parisian bistro with a suitably U.S.-adapted menu. What it does not have is the sometimes indifferent -- and at other times, downright hostile -- service of a Parisian bistro. The staff seems to be specially selected for servers who are friendly, funny, and helpful. On top of that, the food is delicious without being pretentious. It is the perfect place for a late breakfast/early lunch; for pre- and post-theater (Lincoln Center is a mere five-minutes' walk away); and for everything in between.
