A word from Cafe Luxembourg
In 1983, Café Luxembourg opened its doors to become the quintessential neighborhood bistro of the Upper West Side. The dining room of this charming 90 seat restaurant glows in the warm light of the Jean Perzel fixtures and antique mirrors.

Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.

The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.

Diner Reviews
  • "Love the ambiance of this little restaurant. Food is plenty good but not outstanding I'd say but I don't think you go there for a major foodie experience. Our two male servers couldn't have been nicer. A great place for lunch."

  • "My fiancé and me met my best friend from elementary school and her husband for a late brunch on Sunday. It was a perfect choice-- it's a neighborhood go to for many of my friends and the food is always consistently high-quality and the atmosphere and nostalgic feel to the place makes it feel like being somewhere in an era gone by. Only complaint is the portions are on the small side for the price. it was an expensive lunch for what we had I felt but our friends enjoyed it as well and it was a great two hours spent with friends."

  • "I and 2 friends dined here after having not being back for many years. We all ordered moules frites, which was great (broth was delicious), and the atmosphere was festive without the noise level being deafening. This restaurant remained under my radar for a long time, but that will not continue. I will soon be back."

  • "The food at Café Luxembourg is beyond wonderful. I have never had a bad bite of anything they serve. We go a minimum of once a week and usually more often. Terrific!"

  • "I love Cafe Luxembourg because it always feels like a special occasion when I go there. The food and service are top notch and have been for years. Excellent quality all the way around and lovely ambience to boot. What's not to love!"

  • "Café Luxembourg is my favorite restaurant in New York. The place just has a great vibe without a bit of pretense. The food is always great, too. It is truly a New York City gem. I've eaten there many times over the years and never had a bad meal. Be aware that tables are close together and that the bar and the dining room can be a bit crowded. This does not bother me at all - it is part of the vibe, it is part of the character of the place - but don't go if you need wide open spaces."

  • "Cafe Luxembourg is one of those places where you know you can count on very good food and an incredibly welcoming atmosphere. It's not only the the people who work there, but I think their attitudes are contagious, because the customers are also very friendly. I'm always very well taken care of and the food is consistently tasty and well proportioned. I will certainly be back."

  • "My favorite restaurant! Never disappointed, except they took away the peas I love, but brought back the parmesan french fries. Staff is exceptional, especially Jamie. See you soon, Andrea"

  • "It is said that every chef would ask for a perfectly-cooked chicken breast as their last meal. That meal should take place at Cafe Luxembourg. The menu is always full of great temptation expertly prepared, but they never fail to elevate their chicken offering to a new plateau. My dinner there this week will be remembered for a long time; the char-grilled chicken breast was simply the best I've ever had. All in an environment that feels like a neighborhood favorite in Paris' 16th arrondissement. The reason for 4 stars is the my partner's fish and chips were merely ordinary."

  • "An excellent French bistro, seemingly staffed with singers who are recent conservatory graduates. The noise level gets pretty loud later on, but early on it is charming. There is a prix fixe dinner before 6:30, and it's particularly good for pre-Lincoln Center concerts."

  • "I've eaten at Cafe Luxembourg several times, over the years, with wonderful memories. On wed when I reserved a table for 6, I was not only disappointed w. the food, but annoyed at having to pay an additioal $10 for steak frites.(prix fixe) The steak was tough, grizzly, and uninspired. I requested 'rare' and received a medium chewy piece of meat. The mgr came over and insisted that I return it. the second piece was only slightly better. Dessert was a similar experience. 2 profiteroles had an icy center, one was mushy. I will not be returning to Cafe Luxembourg, regrettably. Too many choices in the neighborhood, to chance another questionable experience."

  • "At 1st glance of the menu, I thought it was slightly pricey for brunch, but after including a side with your order & not realizing, it was priced just right. I ordered eggs benedict & it was delicious. The frites were cooked perfectly. I would definitely venture back. The place is cozy. The wait staff were very nice and really on top of things. We were seated promptly and weren't rushed out of there. A brunch you can really enjoy!"

It was my Birthday on Sunday and the staff did a great job to make my dinner extra special the food was delicious as always and the special chocolate cake was great They continue to impress me every time !!"

  • "The folks at CL must do great hiring and even better training. The staff were unfailingly welcoming, friendly, helpful, and attentive, and they did a good job of managing both the restaurant's needs and our' comfort (even though one of our party called in half and hour late at a very very busy time). The food was perfectly prepared, and beautifully served. I love coming here."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and frequented Cafe Luxembourg ever since their opening around 1984. However we had not been in a long time mostly because we like to have wine with dinner and never found any good choices at that time. I mentioned it to our waiter yesterday and he just couldn't believe it was so. I am so pleased to say besides their excellent food I can now recommend their wine as well. They have so many menus from morning til night you can go at almost any hour you chose and know you will be happy. Very friendly and accommodating staff."

  • "Dependable VERY good food. Brunch is perfect here. Impeccable service. Fantastic older New York ladies who dine scene. Sit next to them and enjoy the ride - total Woody Allen Manhattan. Otherwise reliably boring uptown white yuppie crowd stuck in the 90's. Nothing better for many blocks around."

  • "Delightful and delicious describes this classic Upper West Side venue, which deserves to remain in business as long as it has: Attentive service, deft cooking, friendly and professional service -- they have it all, and with a nice wine list to boot. It doesn't hurt to see several Tony award winners seated at nearby tables, either."

  • "The food was really excellent and it was like being back in France. The menu was very French with the exception of the peanut butter ice cream that I had for dessert- which was excellent. I would go back another time when I am in NYC."

  • "I recently went to Cafe Luxembourg, where I have been going on and off for years. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon, after a movie. The place was packed with people of all ages, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Our meal was delicious, professionally served, and we were able to linger over a glass of wine without being hurried. Still excellent after all these years."

  • "I love this restaurant. When I lived in Manhattan a number of years back, I dined here often. It's the perfect spot before a ballet or opera. The room is lovely as ever, and the service was great. The place is a little tight, but that is understandable since it is very popular. My husband and I had a wonderful brunch and will definitely be back soon."

  • "Needed to find a place near Lincoln Center and Cafe Luxembourg fit the bill. Was very crowded and a bit noisy, but the service was fine and fast and the food great, too."

  • "Was a really good go to place.felt like it needed an update. My favorite country salad with Lardon was overly dressed with vinegar and soggy croutons. Pate was fair and the condiments again were overly sour. Too bad. My friend did love her burger, but the frites were soggy. Won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "This was my third visit. I purposely went to have the ricotta pancakes. They are amazing. I live near Ft Lauderdale and plan to go back whenever I am in NY. I may try something else on the menu, but I'm not sure if I can skip the pancakes. Maybe the solution is to have two breakfasts."

  • "The service was impeccable. Our waitress was attentive, proactive, and remarkably graceful. Our 10 year old accidentally kicked the table causing a few spills. She immediately stepped in to rectify the situation. Anyone not paying attention would not have noticed how she swiftly put our brunch back on course. I have not yet mentioned the food. It was excellent. Everyone in our party left the restaurant planning their next visit."
