A guest in our party of six has hearing difficulties and was going to have to leave, since she couldn't participate in the conversations. The host very kindly found and set up a table for us in the blissfully quiet middle dining room (even though we had already been seated in the main dining room and service had started). It was a delightful evening for a group of out-of-towners; made me very proud of the home team. Service was friendly but a little scattered, but it was really busy in there at that time. Our food was served family style at the table, and everyone enjoyed it. The restaurant was beautiful, and they had a kids' area set up with coloring and balloons - great idea! They also have valet parking, which was great for family who met us there that weren't familiar with the area. Our server mentioned that Sunday night is "date night," so we are going back to check that out. It is in an old refurbished area of an urban area in Minneapolis. The food was outstanding. The only thing a little odd was the anise flavor in the lobster ravioli. The description on the menu said "herbs" but if a chef is going to put anise into a lobster pasta I thought it should have been disclosed. My daughter hated it but I didn't think it was too bad. The Baby beets, grapefruit and chicory salad was the most unbelievably delicious salad we've ever tasted!!! The Chilean sea bass with miso was excellent as was the apple/cheese and chive salad. The staff that delivered them also commented that they had not seen that arrangement before. The wine selection was huge and outstanding also. Ambiance was great, with a window seat on the park in the smaller, center dining room. Historic architecture with a modern feel and great lighting. I just ate the tops of them. He nicely took my dish and two desserts off the table, but it's disappointing to be served burned vegetables twice! Didn't care for our table - we were scrunched in the dining room by a door. Limited view and very chilly. Also, I felt cramped. The seating by the windows is chilly in the winter, so be prepared. Next time I would asked to be moved.
Lots of large parties on a Saturday night. The dining room is very noisy, so if you're in for an intimate, quiet dinner. this isn't the place.
Food was superb. I ordered a beet salad (small, but yummy), the pork (fabulous) and my husband had the BLT salad and seafood pasta (subtle, heavy on tarragon. My sister attended the meal who is lactose intolerant and she did not need to worry brave we were so well cared for. The chefs made food that she could eat and made sure to tell us what food had dairy products.
My only complaint was that the service was a bit slow. It took a while for our server to make her first stop at our table; however, she was a great server.
