  • Love Lurcat--with 2 exceptions

My husband and I took our grandaughter to Lurcat for a special celebration. The ambience, the service, and the food all made her feel like it was special. Our only complaints--as the restaurant filled up, talk even at our little table became very difficult, and our waiter pretty much forgot about us. We husband and I shared the Sunday Date Night Promotion and we generally enjoyed it, but the salmon portion was about 3 bites for my husband. Just barely more than a sample of food for the entree.

my husband and i come here every year on our anniversary to get the miso sea bass, which is outstanding. this year the food was as amazing as every and the service was fine. when you spend 200 on a dinner for two, you expect service to be top notch and i felt that was missing this year. we've had other family members with experiences of poor service here recently and i really hope this isn't a trend as the food / ambiance really are wonderful!

I went here with a group from work. The food was really outstanding and our waiter was great - very knowledgable about the menu when we had questions. I had the pot roast and cannot recommend it enough. We shared the donuts for dessert - yum. Now, I will say that it is pricey - very pricey when you consider that the mains do not include sides. So, I wouldn't go here often, but for a special occasion, highly recommended.

  • DON'T ORDER THE CHICKEN!
    FoodieBeeVIP
    Dined on 9/21/2014
The positive: Absolutely delicious, fresh and imaginative food. The negative: Crowded, loud, inexperienced waiter who brought the wrong wines to the table; crazy finding the place and crazy dealing with parking or valet ($8), and the chicken. Believe me, the supermarket roasted chicken has more flavor. This was prepared with fois gras under the skin. It melted, of course, and still didn't result in a juice or flavorful chicken. The truffle was imperceptible - two little pieces which added nothing to the dish for flavor. Chef, try truffle oil next time, and don't skimp! Finally, be prepared for a shock when the bill comes. I doubt whether we'll return.

Hello: We dined at Lurcat on Sat. evening. There were a number of issues, in and on themselves, not a huge deal, but cumulative. We were nicely called to say we couldn't have a drink in the bar area b/c there was a wedding - nice of them to give us a heads up. Ordered a great bottle of wine from the wine menu and it took about 1/2 hour and they couldn't find it in the cellar - had to have another choice - that happens! Ordered small potatoes as an accompaniment - they gave us a handful and said they were waiting for more and then brought just a few more to the table later - a little tacky - since for 3 of us we spent nearly $500. I think for a restaurant trying to be high caliber restaurant, could do much better; service pleasant.

Beautifully prepared and plated food. The hanger steak is extraordinary and more than generous. The roasted garlic in the Madeira sauce was delicious spread on the crusty warm bread. The special heirloom caprese salad was artfully plated and delicious but pricey at $16 which I didn't know when I ordered it. So, the server should mention price points when reviewing the daily specials. The salted caramel ice cream was extraordinary.

I made the reservation in error for a day later on open table. When our party of 3 showed up, the restaurant told us the reservation was for the following night. The staff went above and beyond by fitting us in - it was totally unexpected and so thoughtful. The ambiance was lovely and the dinner a success. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a great ambience, friendly staff and wonderful food.

When you consider all the restaurant options available in the Twin Cities, I think it speaks volumes to tell others that the Lurcat Cafe has been on "our list" for 15 years! The atmosphere is perfect for hanging out or to celebrate special occasions. The location allows for adding in a walk around Loring Park or the Sculpture garden. The signature Sea Bass on the menu is always a must have, the wine list has something for every taste and budget, and no matter what appetizers, mains or side dishes we have ordered over the years, the chef has ALWAYS delighted us. AND the service is impeccable - any meal spent here will have you remembering the experience as an enchanted one.

Please do let us know when the menu changes - and what the new date night menu is. For those who don't know- $50 for 2 apps, 2 dinners, 2 desserts, and 1 bottle of wine makes for a great date. :) Thank you!

Returning to the site of our reception for our anniversary dinner, we enjoyed the date night menu and the high class yet relaxed ambiance of Lurcat yet again. The staff demonstrates pride in their work and it is evident in the quality food, the continually filled glasses, the refolded napkins and other little touches that make this a place to go when you want to feel like your dinner is more than a meal, it's a night out.

Our dining experience at Cafe Lurcat was unparalleled. Normally on special occasions that bring my wife and I into the Twin Cities for an overnight stay, we frequent the wonderful restaurants in downtown Minneapolis. This gem is in the Loring Park area of Minneapolis, minutes from downtown but seemingly worlds away. With beautiful views of the park beyond, this restaurant offers plenty of panache with a great selection of entrees to meet any need. I had the roasted chicken; my wife had the pot roast and we shared the "legendary" french fries. Along with the bacon, lettuce, and tomato salad the whole experience was magnificent from start to finish. I recommend Cafe Lurcat for your next special occasion dinner!

My Mom was in town visiting and we decided to try going to to Cafe Lurcat for dinner with a bunch of my girl friends. The restaurant is beautiful and unique, the food was phenomenal (from the wine to the bread to the salads to the seafood entrees- AMAZING!), and our server was fantastic. Cannot say enough positive things about our wonderful, super fun night spent at Cafe Lurcat. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to meet up with friends - new or old- as another thing I appreciated about the restaurant was that the noise level was moderate and therefore I could hear what my Mom and friends were saying throughout the entire meal! Thank you for a fabulous night. We will most certainly be back, and we will truly remember this night forever!
