Have been to Lurcat before, usually the food and service is top notch. However, during restaurant week, the service was not as good as usual and the entree they serve was cold. Had to ask the waiter to send it back to the kitchen to reheat my steak.

You can tell they use quality ingredients and I love the open kitchen! I definitely felt like I could have dressed up more which I love because there is no place any more including down town where there isn't people in jeans and a sweatshirt so this is a great date night place if you want to get in a dress and heels! Very romantic and great food!

This restaurant always knocks it out of the ball-park. The apple-cheese starter salad with crusty bread is our go-to first course every time we're here. My husband had the Amish chicken for his entrée for the first time and loved it! I had my usual melt-in-the mouth Hanger Steak. We shared pureed potatoes and squash. Love the presentation of food in copper pots. First class dining and atmosphere every time we eat here.

Love the food especially the sea bass, roasted cauliflower and chocolate dessert. My only complaint is the level of noise. Was there previously on week night and it was fine but on Friday night, it would have been tough for a group.

Made a reservation. Got a call telling me that our table would not be in the dining area but the bar area but that there would still be white tablecloths, etc. Arrived and no tablecloths on tables. We chose to order several small dishes to share. Beets and cauliflower were delicious but my Maytag wedge salad was not a wedge and it was TINY! For $14, it was side salad size and I had ordered it as a main meal along with our sharing the beets and cauliflower. My friend's crabcakes were more breading than crab and she specifically asked how much breading was in them with a response by the waiter, "not much". Overpriced for what you get!

I was back in town for a birthday, and although this place has been here more than a decade, I had not experienced the new urban chic Loring Park (a far cry from the seedy neighborhood of the '70s). Cafe Lurcat was a delightful gem in this revitalized neighborhood. Warm, friendly service, an option of three sizes of wine by the glass -including a generous 10-oz. pour, tasty entrees and fabulous desserts. The passion fruit pavlova was superb, only to be topped off with a birthday gift of mini cinnamon donuts with a candle. I only wish I could have sampled more of the main courses, which were a bit pricey, since my dining companion and I had the same order.

  • Great for Couple's Night!

We went here on a Sunday night when they run their Couple's Night special. You each get an appetizer, entree, and dessert PLUS an entire bottle of wine (red or white) for $50. They don't treat you any differently knowing that you're not paying full price and are participating in their special. They kept bringing endless baskets of bread throughout the appetizer and meal - it was so fluffy and crispy at the same time and totally delicious as far as bread goes! I highly recommend this place to someone who has never been or who wants three courses without the three course price. The inside of the restaurant is also stunning. Open space, you can see into the kitchen, brick columns throughout the room. You must go try it out!

We started with the crabcake - too small to share with four people, so order two because it was great!! We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, scallops, Brussels sprouts, and the potatoes for dinner. I know this is a bold statement, but it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was great!!!!

We chose Café Lurcat for several reasons. Family from Colorado were visiting and we wanted to bring them to a local place that exemplified Mpls.' vibrant restaurant scene. Also, it has a top rating. We were not disappointed. Would love to give it an outstanding grade, however, there were a number of things preventing this, all of which were, to their credit, quickly resolved - a mix-up in the drinks, bringing the wrong salad. But the main reason for coming was the food and that was awesome! My filet with the oyster sauce and wine reduction was one of the best steaks ever. Our son had the sea bass and maintained that it was a top 10 meal. Everyone else loved their dishes. Expensive, but worth the price. Will go again!

My wife and I have made a list of hot spots we would like to try in the Minneapolis and surrounding areas. This was first on the list and did NOT disappoint! Service from the Valet , to the host to the sever was a 10! Then there is the food! Oh my the food! So good and large portions for what I would call a VALUE casual yet elegant dining experience. I would HIGHLY recommend it!

loved the building, food, waitstaff, ambience - can't think of a thing that was not top-notch....This was a work-related dinner; we were entertaining out of town customers, and they were very impressed and appreciative that we took them to such a great place. The woman sitting next to me had the pot roast, and I believe her first comment was "oh my god, it melts in your mouth." I had waffled between Lurcat and another restaurant (which I had been to previously) - so glad I chose Cafe Lurcat. It was my first time dining there too, and I will definitely be back and will recommend it whenever I get the chance!

We were visiting from Winnipeg and are always on the lookout for great dining. A customer of our own store recommended Café Lurcat and we are so glad for that! The Pot Roast was everything we could imagine and the Sea Bass delicious. We had a great cocktails (always a good sign of a great restaurant) and sadly we had no room for desert. We still took a bag of donuts home. We loved the fact that there were white table clothes and attractive tableware. The staff was courteous and helpful. We can't wait for our next trip to the Twin Cities so we can visit again.

My husband and I took our grandaughter to Lurcat for a special celebration. The ambience, the service, and the food all made her feel like it was special. Our only complaints--as the restaurant filled up, talk even at our little table became very difficult, and our waiter pretty much forgot about us. We husband and I shared the Sunday Date Night Promotion and we generally enjoyed it, but the salmon portion was about 3 bites for my husband. Just barely more than a sample of food for the entree.

my husband and i come here every year on our anniversary to get the miso sea bass, which is outstanding. this year the food was as amazing as every and the service was fine. when you spend 200 on a dinner for two, you expect service to be top notch and i felt that was missing this year. we've had other family members with experiences of poor service here recently and i really hope this isn't a trend as the food / ambiance really are wonderful!

I went here with a group from work. The food was really outstanding and our waiter was great - very knowledgable about the menu when we had questions. I had the pot roast and cannot recommend it enough. We shared the donuts for dessert - yum. Now, I will say that it is pricey - very pricey when you consider that the mains do not include sides. So, I wouldn't go here often, but for a special occasion, highly recommended.

  • DON'T ORDER THE CHICKEN!
    FoodieBeeVIP
    Dined on 9/21/2014
The positive: Absolutely delicious, fresh and imaginative food. The negative: Crowded, loud, inexperienced waiter who brought the wrong wines to the table; crazy finding the place and crazy dealing with parking or valet ($8), and the chicken. Believe me, the supermarket roasted chicken has more flavor. This was prepared with fois gras under the skin. It melted, of course, and still didn't result in a juice or flavorful chicken. The truffle was imperceptible - two little pieces which added nothing to the dish for flavor. Chef, try truffle oil next time, and don't skimp! Finally, be prepared for a shock when the bill comes. I doubt whether we'll return.

Hello: We dined at Lurcat on Sat. evening. There were a number of issues, in and on themselves, not a huge deal, but cumulative. We were nicely called to say we couldn't have a drink in the bar area b/c there was a wedding - nice of them to give us a heads up. Ordered a great bottle of wine from the wine menu and it took about 1/2 hour and they couldn't find it in the cellar - had to have another choice - that happens! Ordered small potatoes as an accompaniment - they gave us a handful and said they were waiting for more and then brought just a few more to the table later - a little tacky - since for 3 of us we spent nearly $500. I think for a restaurant trying to be high caliber restaurant, could do much better; service pleasant.

Beautifully prepared and plated food. The hanger steak is extraordinary and more than generous. The roasted garlic in the Madeira sauce was delicious spread on the crusty warm bread. The special heirloom caprese salad was artfully plated and delicious but pricey at $16 which I didn't know when I ordered it. So, the server should mention price points when reviewing the daily specials. The salted caramel ice cream was extraordinary.
