Diner Reviews
  • "Just finished my second visit here and it was even better than the first! Food and scene both excellent. This will now be a regular for me anytime I'm in Minneapolis on business."

  • "We went to Cafe Lurcat for a nice dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant looked to be about 50% full at most, yet it took around 2 hours to complete our meal. None of the orders (drinks, appetizers, main course, dessert) came promptly; We waited close to 30 minutes for appetizers and another 30 minutes after we were done eating them just to be served a luke warm steak. Mind you, the steak was good, but it seemed like it had been sitting out waiting for us at least half of the time we were waiting for it. I've had good experiences there before but this was not one of them. Service needs to improve, especially considering the bill..."

  • "What a great restaurant week menu! Amazing. I had been there several times with work groups but my husband had not. We had a great Sunday night.. loved it. The special chocolate dessert made for rest week was DELICIOUS!"

  • "Yes, there are all sort of "foodie" places in the warehouse district but this downtown/Loring Park restaurant is one of the best serving wonderfully creative but still fairly traditional fare. If you're tired of being served up cheap cuts of offal, etc. Cafe Lurcat is for you. Also duly noted: noise level is fairly quiet. What is with these trendy and fairly expensive venues with the pounding music and diners practically yelling to talk with their table mates? Older people-the ones with money to dine out frequently- are turned off and seek restos with an atmosphere suitable for fine dining."

  • "I surprised my hubby with a special dinner for his 50th birthday at Cafe Lurcat. Our meals were both delish and the BLT salad was to die for as well as our desserts. It's such a pretty place to dine at. Ask for a window table and you can watch the people enjoying the park and the fancy cars coming to the valet. ;-)"

  • "Great trendy restaurant with amazing food and service. It was my wife's birthday and we had a nice window table with a good view of the park. The wait staff with prompt and effiecient and our food was superb!"

  • "From the minute you walk into the restaurant, you are greeting warmly by every person that you come into contact with. That attention to service carries on throughout the meal. The food presents beautifully, and is so flavorful. We are never disappointed when we order new dishes, that reflect seasonal items. Love this restaurant."

  • "We had a fantastic window seat. Our service was outstanding - loved our waitress - Kristi! She was very willing to explain all the dishes, had a great personality, and best of all -there was no pressure to order, hurry, etc. The food was excellent!"

  • "Café Lurcat never disappoints! When a restaurant packs people in on a Thursday evening, you know it's good. This place is a classy without being stuffy. Our server Kristi remembered us from our last visit, and even remembered that we sat one table back on that visit. We booked early seating and chose a table close to the kitchen so I can watch the action. My husband and I split the apple/Manchego cheese salad per usual. Combined with the fabulous bread, it's a must have on every visit. Our main course was Hanger Steak, potato puree and sautéed asparagus... my go-to menu staples. From the first to last bite, everything, including food presentation, was perfect. Can't wait for our next visit."

  • "Love the restaurant, bar and outdoor seating. The food is always exceptional. Roasted Cauliflower, corn crepe, pot roast all of it! We love it for special occasions like Anniverary and also Date Night."

  • "They have one of the best Sunday night date night deals for $50!! Great dinner-ambiance - one of my favorites!!!"

  • "As usual Cafe Lurcat exceeds expectations. Amazing food and the Sunday Date Night deal is just an absurd value considering the quality of food you get in return"

  • "We have been to Lurcat several times and have never had a less than ideal experience. We were 30 minutes late for our reservation time, called ahead to let them know we were running behind and Micheal said it would not be an issue. Justin our server was great with his suggestions and service and the food again was outstanding. I would highly recommend."

  • "We took some friends to this restaurant that were visiting from out of town. We were asked if we wanted to be seated in the back patio area. We had never dined on their back patio, and were presently surprised. If we would not have known it, we would have thought we were at a street café in Italy. The brick walled area was quite secluded and was very quiet, which was great so we could catch up with news from our friends. The food and service were excellent. It was one of the more enjoyable dining experiences we have had in this area. We could not have asked for more."

  • "I always enjoy this restaurant although my wife thinks it is a bit noisy. Elegant, all white interior. Expansive view overlooking Loring Park. Food is beautifully prepared and perfectly presented. Halibut was extraordinary. Service is perfect. Everyone is served simultaneously. They don't bother you with unnecessary questions like, "How were the first few bites?" Or, my favorite, when looking at an empty plate: "Are you finished?" My Opentable request to seat us by the windows was honored."

  • "After the two scallops fiasco last time, Lurcat redeemed themselves. Without going into great detail, there was a problem with our meal. Both the waiter AND the manager immediately took action to remedy the problem and instead of ruining our evening, it still made it a pleasurable time. Most outfits might have barely rescued themselves from the problem, but how they went above and beyond ensures we'll continue to visit Lurcat, especially on their Date Night."

  • "We had never been there before. Just so happened to pick Sunday when they had the Date Night special. Great stuff. Would highly recommend. The Sunday Date deal is a good deal, portions are a bit smaller but not ridiculously small by any means. We left happy :)"

  • "Café Lurcat is our 2nd favorite fine dining experience in the Twin Cities. However, it was only OK last week. Our salads took an hour to arrive, but they did comp. these and apologize. The lamb shoulder pappardelle was very good and my wife's tuna as well. The deserts were just OK. The spice cake had a nice flavor but the huckleberry ice cream was bland. My wife's Chocolate was OK, but I can compare it to a milk chocolate Hershey's bar versus a rich Ghiardelli dark chocolate bar. We go to Corner Table often as our favorite restaurant in town. Maybe we have become spoiled? Unfortunately they weren't open last week due to staff vacation. Really unfortunate. We'll probably give Lurcat another try in the future before writing it off."

  • "Had a fantastic date night here. The food was really, really good all the way around. I'm not normally a crab cake person, but they had a Dijon sauce that was awesome. I love Dijon so that helps, but it was great anyway. We split the roast beef entree and also a salad with bacon and blue cheese. Also split the mini donut desert. Awesome as well - especially with espresso. Even loved the fresh bread and whipped butter. Ordered a second. Service was great. Andrew was our server. Parking after 6 on a Saturday - FREE. Had a great night."

  • "Husband and I tried out Lurcat for a much needed date night out without the kids. The cafe is very fancy, and romantic. The wine list is lengthy, but we decided to order cocktails. Both were very good. We decided to split an appetizer, side and the beef tenderloin. The portions are huge, mother than the $14 crab cake that came to us burnt. After quietly saying something, our server immediate (seriously, we were weirded out by how fast it happened) brought us a replacement that was delicious. The tenderloin was to die for, but I probably wouldn't spend the money on it again. Overall Lurcat was good, but for the money, we will probably be going elsewhere on special occasions."

  • "Lovely ambience, with huge windows overlooking Loriing Park. The service was slow and disorganized, which spoiled the whole experience. One of our party was served a cocktail and finished it before the server could be flagged down. We wondered where our bottle of wine was - several minutes later, it was served. This is how the whole night progressed. As for the menu, the choices all seemed quite heavy on the sauce and embellishments. Crab cake appetizer was tasty. The bread was a wonder - warm, crusty and delicious - the best part of the meal."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed our experience at Cafe Lurcat - the menu offered many options that I would not prepare at home (a normal measure for me). We enjoyed our fish selections, the red, white and blue salad was very tasty. The real surprise was the cauliflower (a seasonal vegetable selection); it was oven roasted delicious, and I do not normally like cauliflower. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The views of the park are lovely - we enjoyed a walk to and from our car. We would go back for another special occasion."

  • "Went on friend's recommendation, staying in a hotel nearby. Walked through the park, it's a great place to sit outside or in. Service is excellent, bread yummy (crusty warm baguette), squid ink pasta with lobster divine, miso sea bass (renowned) good but a little too sweet. Donuts for dessert were good, fresh. Only detraction was the we had to walk by the bathrooms and kitchen/dishwasher to get to the dining room. Kind of an ambiance killer."

  • "Great classic cocktails! I ordered the Halibut with summer vegetables and it was fabulous. The salad was mediocre - I ordered the spring greens with goat cheese and peppers. The atmosphere was nice and the coffee at the end of our meal was the perfect finish, some of the best I have had at a restaurant. Clearly freshly made."

  • "We were in Minneapolis for the week, and this was our last dinner there! We definitely saved the best for last. The big windows overlook the park which is beautiful in the summer. I had the Sea Bass which was devoured. My husband was not as thrilled with the steak, but he knew that going in. Get fish - not steak - it is not cooked over a high heat so it is hard to get to the right temperature all the way through. The salads were fresh and excellent. Would definitely go again on our next trip back! One random note - the chairs are super comfortable so relax and enjoy!"

  • "I first went to Lurcat with a bunch of college friends during our yearly night out. Since first discovering Lurcat I have been there 3 more times and have never been disappointed. Food is awesome and the service is impeccable. The pork tenderloin is cooked to perfection both times and their chicken was great. The last time I went my girlfriend got the Halibut and it was outstanding...this is from someone that doesnt typically like fish! The Restaurant can get a bit noisy but never so bad that it becomes an issue. Great place for date night and for grabbing drinks with firends."

  • "We were in town attending a conference and had an impromptu group of 11 that needed quick accommodation. I went to OpenTable and was fortunate enough to find Cafe Lurcat had availability. I read the plethora of complimentary reviews and - wow! - were they right. From the service to the location of our table to the diverse yet accessible food to the exemplary wine list, every aspect of our meal was fantastic. Everyone in attendance had a wonderful evening and I highly recommend that this restaurant be included in the "go to" list for anyone looking for a culinary treat."

  • "You must try the sea bass . . . it is outstanding!!!"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "We loved our time at Cafe Lurcat. The short ribs lettuce wrap appetizer was very impressive and had wonderful flavors and spice. The sea bass was cooked perfectly, however I did not love the sweetness of the miso glaze. I realized after scraping it off that there was a spicy sauce on the plate that perhaps was intended to balance the sweetness. The sliders (from bar menu) were very tender and fries perfectly seasoned (and a huge serving). Our waiter was wonderful, friendly, and knew the menu well. The tables were somewhat close together but typical compared to other city restaurants. Great building and ambience, spectacular nature views of the park, only downside- the mens/women's restrooms only have a single stall and share a sink area."

  • "Thanks for the wonderful night out on Friday, I brought two out of towners and first time Lurcat visitors and they were both very impressed. We had the apple, cheese and chive salad, which the waiter had the kitchen split in to thirds, the Sea Bass, Filet and Pot Roast along with a side of roasted cauliflower. Everything was outstanding, but as usual I thought the Sea Bass outshone the meat dishes. In addition, we got to meet a local celebrity at the table next door!"

  • "Used to be my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. Not any more. Granted it was the end of the day but after 20 minutes of waiting we had to ask someone to get our server so we could place our orders. When we finally got our food, fries were cold, too crispy and nasty, halibut was cold and salty. I hope this was a one off bad experience. "
