A word from Cafe Luna - San Diego
An Evening at Cafe Luna has best been described as "A Celestial Dining Experience"
Each and every item on our menu, including our savory nightly specials, are hand-crafted to order with you, our guest, in mind. According to owner, Susan Haywood, "Our word-of-mouth reputation brings in new customers but it's the food that keeps them coming back." Café Luna was named "San Diego's Best Kept Secret" from San Diego Home & Garden readers. In addition Café Luna has been awarded 1st place for "Best Italian Food" on the channel 10 A-List. Some of Café Luna's signature dishes are our Tornadoes Gorgonzola, our Fusilli Umbriaco and our highly requested Rosetta - a homemade pasta sheet rolled with ham and Swiss cheese that's sliced and baked with a Parmesan cream sauce. In addition to exceptional food & service, Café Luna also has an extensive wine list and a full bar. The atmosphere is romantic yet comfortable. We also offer off site catering, ask for our General Manager, Jamie Wimmer.

Wonderful dinner Saturday night at Cafe Luna. We had 2 of the nightly specials, the Osso Buco and my friend the Sea Bass both were outstanding. Dinner started off with warm fresh bread and Cafe Luna's yummy dipping sauce, then we had the small plate Seared Ahi prior to our entries. Needless to say I took a bit home for lunch the next day. Definitely going back, this restaurant is truly a neighborhood gem.

We rarely go to a restaurant specializing in Italian food since this is my heritage and I prepare these dishes at home. When we tried Cafe Luna, it became the exception to the rule. The food is beyond excellent and a place we recommend to all our friends.

I love spicy food. I was ready to add crushed red pepper, but stopped short of spicing it up. I had the Penne con salciccia. I took a couple of bites. The flavors were subtle and distinct. It is hard to find an entree that stands on its own, but Cafe Luna nailed it. Though I love spicy food, I love it even more when the food is delicious as served. Congratulations to the chef and staff. Service was excellent.

Our dinner at Cafe Luna was DELICIOUS! We had not been to this neighborhood gem in quite while but now that I refreshed my memory of how very good the food is, it will not be ling until we plan a return visit. It is not cheap, but it is a wonderful place for any special occasion.

My mother and I went to Cafe Luna on a Saturday evening with 7:15PM reservations. We were seated promptly. Drink orders went fine. Taking our entree order took forever because we asked the waiter to come back in a minute and he didn't come back for 10 minutes. Once our order was taken it took 20 minutes for the appetizer to come out, which itself was very good (fruit & cheese platter). Caesar salad and minestrone soup were very good. Linguini & clams entree was very good. The Osso Buco special was passable, but at $36, the meat should have been a lot tender. I've had it in another local restaurant (Pizza Nova) at half the price and it was much better. Tiramisu for dessert was terrific. Sp mostly passable food, slow service.

I always love coming to Cafe Luna. The food is always great as well as the service. It was my birthday celebration but the server did not know. The hostesses did. I would still return in spite of the lack of communication, After all Cafe Luna is still one of my favorite places to enjoy dining,

I reviewed this place in the past and gave it five stars. My husband and I called it our secret place. However, I must say, due to their increasing prices and decreasing portion size, it is not that great of a value anymore. I felt this time that the quality was a bit off as well. My husband's chicken was on the bland side and my tournadoes/petite filets which I have gotten several times before didn't seem as top-notch as in the past. Still good but we are in no rush to return.

Nice ambiance. House Chardonnay overpriced at $14 a glass and ice tea tasted terrible. Had to send the ice tea back. I later asked if they had tasted the tea and the waiter agreed it was not correctly prepared. Ordered the veal piccata which was quite good. It was preceeded by a very delicious green salad, however, the pasta, accompanying the veal, came with a red sauce that did lack in flavor. Portions were adequate and service friendly and attentive. I would try this restaurant again and try some of their other entrees but I am not in a big rush to return. At least get the ice tea right!

Every time we have been there, I am amazed by the delicious food we have tried. This time it wasn't so much the main entree; although that was simply great as well. This time the winner was the Summer Salad. I won't spoil the surprise for you by listing the ingredients; but, the Summer Salad was off-the-chart good. I could have had several more servings of just that!! My only compliant is that a table for two is very small and we had to keep moving things to make room. But that's a small gripe to experience such wonderful food.

We were on vacation in the San Diego area and wanted a nice local place to eat that was decidedly NOT a chain-type restaurant or tourist trap. Cafe Luna fit the bill perfectly! We found this little gem by searching Yelp and the reviews Cafe Luna earned were well deserved. The food was great, the service both friendly and attentive and the prices were quite reasonable. If you find yourself in the area give yourself a nice break from the chain-scene and visit Cafe Luna!

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area because of another appointment we had in the area. I started with a Google search and then followed up with Yelp reviews. We landed on Luna and made our reservations through Open Table. Even though Luna had other positive reviews, it was still a find. Hidden in a strip mall with an unassuming store front. Service was wonderful and the food was really outstanding. (My wife had sea bass and and I had the manicotti.) Don't need to dress up, but great for a date or just good food.

I booked a reservation here because it was convenient, and had a good choice of pasta dishes for my boyfriend who was running the Safari Park half-marathon the next day (carbo loading and all, ya know). We had never stayed at that hotel before (Double Tree), nor had we dined at this restaurant before. Because it was my boyfriend's birthday and our 3rd anniversary, I decided that this seemed like a suitable restaurant. Well, and how! We had the most charming and lovely waitress, Heather, who was simply delightful. We started with the Italian antipasto, which we shared, then went on to the Osso Bucco (for me), and my boyfriend, the filet mignon pasta. All wonderful... the wine was fab, the lemon tart for dessert a hit -- and all great!

I'm from NJ and found the recommendation on my hotel website and hoped my co-workers from LA and Northern Cal were OK with the choice. I chose it because it was close and the website looked great - Boy are we happy we did. When I get back to my office in SanDiego - this is where I would come back to eat! Well Done Cafe Luna.

This is one of the best restaurants in the area. Has been for about 20 years. Top chef, fine service, always accommodating. The specials are always a nice surprise. Always get some Fuscili Umbriaco as a side dish. Love the lamb, the osso bucco, fruit d'mares (shellfish pasta). Salads are amazing - fresh, light, flavorful. Little pricey but I always feel very satisfied with the experience. Always make a reservation.
