I took my parents to Levain for my fathers 83rd Birthday. He told me that he wanted ribs- so I did a search and Levain came up (didn't want to take him to a low-brow rib joint for his bday). The menu had "short ribs" but it wasn't ribs at all. It was a nice portion of meat- and delicious- just not what we thought. It didn't come with any veggies-then you need to order side dishes and the bill goes up. There was a long wait between appetizers and the entree- and my dad got kind of impatient and cranky. We aren't a drinking family,(one glass of wine each), so we are very aware of the time the food took to come out of the kitchen. We were there early and there were only 3 other tables- so maybe the kitchen wasn't ready yet. Waitress very nice.

We really enjoyed our meal! The food was excellent. It was a wonderful place for us to eat, since relatively few people were there. We were interviewing a candidate for a job, so we needed a relatively quite place.
I will definitelyl go back.

Tasty well-prepared food. The short ribs were moist and worked well with the accompaniments of fingerling potatoes, ramps, and tangy sauce. As always, good Turtle Bread baguette, cheerfully refilled. Knowledgeable waitress, one who has served us here previously.

A year ago we had my son's small wedding dinner (30) here and loved it! This time we were celebrating his birthday with an impromptu get together. The wait staff did a fantastic job - the meal and service were paced well. I had the Sunday Special- a 3 course meal for only $25 a great value. The soups were excellent as were the entrees. We all enjoyed our desserts immensely and had another fabulous evening out.

Bradley, our server, was attentive without hovering. The food (arctic char & hanger steak) was well prepared and as described. The chef does espcially wonderful things with vegetable combinations, shaved asparagus and fennel for example. Dessert was delicious and generous, especially the sorbets. We love Cafe Levain more each time we dine there.

Many items were topnotch, particularly the asparagus soup, French toast dessert and the polenta (except for the kale.)Other entrees were excellent as well. We also felt the service was excellent and the portions were quite large. The only disappointment was the coffee.

Our party of four went out for dinner on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was pretty empty. However, the menu looked good and the atmosphere seemed cozy. I had the short ribs which were very good and savory but I thought the veggies were overcooked. The onion soup was tasty. We also ordered three sides which included the califlower (extremely salty), the cous cous (mushy) and the brussels sprouts (a bit overcooked). For the price, all the food did not measure up. We thought we might give it another try someday.

Loved the food and the presentation. The menu is small but includes a good variety. Some of the food was a bit salty but it did not get in the way of the taste.

I am sad to disagree with the reviews of Levain. Our experience: the room is plain, crowded with tables and loud. Paper table coverings & dishtowel napkins would overlooked if the rest of the experience was good Unfortunately, the food was unique, but not good. The barley risotto was subpar. The brussel sprouts were overwhelmed with garlic. Frites were abundant and served with a tiny diner style dish of plain catsup. Lots of small bits and crumbs. The highly recommended short rib burger was just okay. The salad dressing was so unremarkable that one of the diners could not tell us what she was eating. Nor did she finish the onion soup--not a good sign. The polenta was disappointing, High prices. Small selection.
