  • "They stuck us at a table facing a wall. Another couple that came in behind us was seated at a nice table. They appeared to be locals. Convinced it was because it was an open table reservation. That couple and another that came in behind us were both served cocktails and wine before we were spoken to. One had our same wait person. As for the food, mine was good. My wife's was not. She had a special tagliatelle with oxtail. There was no oxtail. Just mushy pasta in a brown sauce. Much Better places in Sonoma."

  • "While the food at Cafe La Haye is delicious and the staff is very warm and pleasant, the environment is a bit too cramped to be highly romantic. Every word at the tables next to you can be heard. Light music might help cover the conversations and street noise and some flowers on the tables would help set a more romantic scene. Also, the tables are a bit too cramped for larger groups, so I would be unlikely to schedule an event with several couples there."

We chose to try is out during restaurant week and we are so glad we did. We will be back and will be bringing our foodie friends with us."

I discovered it through the recommendation of the Chronicle's Michael Bauer two years ago, fell in love with it when my wife and I visited during a weekend in Sonoma shortly thereafter, and have been back twice since then, most recently last Friday night. It's a small restaurant, very intimate and inviting, with fabulous food and service, and an owner who makes the rounds in a very friendly fashion to make sure every customer is being well cared for."

  • "Cafe La Haye was recommended to us by Silver Oak Winery staff in Healdsburg. We decided to give it a try, although we noted it had a limited dinner menu, but ample nightly specials on the board. The food was very good, maybe not huge portions (my husband loves to eat!) but ample. The potato au gratin that accompanied my roasted chicken dish was overcooked/burnt on the top, but below the top was flavorful, yet a bit dry. The soup of the day (celery root and Gabbiano ham) was amazing! We brought our own wine, but their list is extensive! We shared the granny smith apple crisp which was amazingly good and very plentiful to top off the evening. We'd recommend this restaurant and would likely return. Great servers also!!"

Three of us enjoyed the sole which was served with mashed potatoes and kale and was cooked to perfection while the other person in our party had the quail, which was stuffed and prepared to perfection. We enjoyed the Apple/Oatmeal Crisp that was the special dessert of the evening. The food preparation and presentation was outstanding. It is a smaller restaurant and a reservation is highly recommended. We will definitely dine at this restaurant again before we leave Sonoma."

  • "We have been to Cafe La Haye several times over the years and continue to be impressed with what the chef can do in the tiniest of kitchens! Started with the Beef Carpaccio with small chunks of pears, plump, toasted pine nuts, and a delicious vinaigrette. I had the salmon, my husband had the special, seared tuna, which looked and tasted like a filet! We finished with butterscotch pudding--Whee!! A bottle of Angels' Camp Pinot Noir. A perfect meal. Lovely service! Can't wait to come back."

  • "We loved our meal at cafe la haye. We started with the beef carpaccio - delicious. We then ordered the ahi tuna special - which was BAR NONE the best ahi tuna dish either of us had ever had due to the perfect searing of the ahi tuna and the mushroom Demi-glacé that accompanied it. For dessert we ordered the apple crisp and the chocolate pie. The crust of the chocolate pie was crunchy and seemed to have bits of caramel in it that really made the dish. The ambiance was great - beautiful high ceilings - only 12 tables - there was a nice buzz to the room but it never felt frenetic or loud. The serving team (Saul, Hannah) were delightful and very welcoming. What a wonderful evening."

  • "With about 12 tables and a very small kitchen, it is amazing how they turnout such good and creative meals. This visit I have to say had a few issues due to a very noisy group of women celebrating a birthday which echoed thru the entire small space. Once they left however, it was much quieter AND unfortunately my delicious dinner was barely luke warm when they delivered it to the table. They did, however, remedy it immediately and I enjoyed every bite of the scallops, sauteed kale, mushrooms and creamy potatoes. The salmon my DH had was wonderful, moist on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. Great salads and a homey apple crisp for dessert. Will be there again next time we are in Sonoma. A not to be missed place...."

  • "We made a reservation based on numerous YELP recommendations - we were not disappointed! Great food, friendly service, romantic enough but if you want quiet romantic then possibly try another night (we had an 8pm reservation on a Friday night - the place was packed!) This place has been around for over 17 years I believe - that speaks volumes! Food was delicious and creative. Optional bread (have to ask for it), decent wine list but you can also bring your own for a $20 corkage fee. Yummy!"
