Diner Reviews
  • "Overall experience was excellent. Starting with the food from the house baked bread basket to through every course we did not experience a miss. We enjoyed the fish appetizer and the squash blossom that paired well with the sparkling wine. The fish soup jumped out of the bowl with vibrant citrus flavors balanced with pepperoncini oil. The main course of risotto and lamb were done perfect. Risotto was creamy and to the tooth with lots of flavor and the lamb was cooked perfectly. We will be back soon."

  • "I eat out too much, and Cafe Juanita is possibly one of the best restaurants in the world. Every server in town should eat here to understand what perfect service feels like. Every chef in town should eat here to understand what perfect preparations and flavors are like without trying to hard. Every sommelier, hostess, busser, expeditor...you get the point. Really incredible place. The best restaurant in Seattle is actually tucked away in Kirkland."

  • "Cafe Juanita delivers with excellent food, service and ambience. The menu is unique, including the exquisite pasta dishes and interesting cocktail selections. The service is exceptional as well, including tracking of the wine and food from prior visits, great touch."

  • "My husband and I chose Café Juanita to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff took note of this and we were given what I would consider the most romantic location in the restaurant - a table in the corner where we could sit next to each other and enjoy the views of the park like scenery outside the window and also the kitchen. The staff was wonderful - friendly, patient, and attentive. The food was delicious. For our main courses we chose the rabbit and the pork cheeks, at the recommendation of our wait staff. We were not disappointed. Our desserts came with lit candles in celebration of our anniversary."

  • "My client suggested this place, so I went with the flow. It was amazing! The food was for for foodies- although I am not one. I enjoyed it."

  • "Cafe Juanita has and much deserves the long standing sterling reputation for which it is known. Every part of your dinig experience is well considered and executed. My wife and I enjoyed slow-eating; taking time to enjoy food that is well paired and beautifully presented. This is a Holly Smith's restaurant's sweet spot. David, our waiter, was pleasant, professional and he knew everything about every dish. Our busser, Deven, was wonderfully professional as well. We had a marvelous 2-1/2 hours at a Northwest gem."

  • "Cafe Juanita is where we celebrate birthdays & special occasions. Even with high expectations, they always exceed them. The waiter offered excellent suggestions to our foursome. We shared 2 salads: "hearts of romaine," a must for Caesar salad lovers, and seasonal mustard greens, also terrific. We all had the seasonal salmon special, which, even in a part of the world that knows how to cook salmon, was superb. Perfectly grilled, with a fresh basil preparation and beans mixed with salmon sushi. We had a wonderful gluten-free chick-pea crepe alternative to their fabulous breads. (We ate both.) The meal ended with a not-to-be-missed, easy-to-underrate panna cotta, a seasonal blueberry dessert, and chocolate truffles. All delightful."

  • "My husband and I dined at Cafe Juanita and it lives up to all it awards. There's not too many restaurants that include seared foie gras, and Cafe Juanita serves it beautifully!"

  • "My wife and I live in Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA where we are surrounded by fine restaurants and we have dined all over the world. Cafe Juanita was one of the best, if not, the best dining experiences we have ever had. The food was exceptional. Our only regret is that we did not have enough room for dessert!"

  • "Great food and service. Especially enjoyed the seared foie gras which we can no longer get in CA."

  • "The food, as always at Cafe Juanita, was creative and delicious. The service staff is knowledgeable and personable. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, adding to the overall dining experience."

  • "The menu selections and the specials were so tempting it was difficult to make choices. I had the rabbit and my husband had the salmon. Both were cooked to perfection - gently and tenderly. The salad of the day (my choice) combined unique seasonings, morsels of duck and tender arugula and herbs. Bob chose the soup special, a seafood chowder that was beautifully and uniquely seasoned - not too thick. Our desserts also exceeded our expectations - a dark chocolate pudding-style cake with a side of homemade gelato. Bob's dessert consisted of homemade assorted fruit sorbets. Service was also outstanding. Water glasses were regularly refilled and check-ins were regular but not at all intrusive."

  • "My wife and I dined at Cafe Juanita for nearly a dozen years. All meals have been exceptional until now. The food seemed to lack its usual inspiration, our server appeared bored, and we were seated next to a table for four that was joined by a fifth person. It was not the pleasant experience we were expecting for our anniversary."

  • "Planned our anniversary dinner months in advance, looking forward to experiencing chef Holly Smith's brilliant cooking. We'd been there before several times and always had wonderful food and memorable experiences. This was not the case this past weekend. Every single dish was over-salted. In fact, I had to send one appetizer back because it was so salty that it was inedible. Even my lamb chops were visibly covered in large chunks of salt. Very disappointing overall - and the meal was finished with terrible coffee. I don't know what happened. I'm still feeling the disappointment. The sommelier was great, though, and we did have a nice wine. The wine doesn't make up for lousy food, but it's at least one thing that was positive."

  • "My companion and I decided the last time we were at Cafe Juanita was when you had to toss the toll on the 520 bridge into a basket at the toll plaza. Well it was just as wonderful as we remembered. The food preparation and flavors were outstanding. Same location, but everything has built up around the restaurant, yet still intimate and welcoming."

  • "Holly continues to be a great chef and outstanding in her field. Her food is classic and innovative at the same time. She just returned from a trip to Italy and found some new sources for great products and wines, which she has brought to the restaurant. The sommelier is extremely knowledgable and friendly and doesn't try to push expensive wines-unless you want them, of course! My rack of lamb was of excellent quality and cooked perfectly. My only complaint about the evening is that I thought the portion was a bit small; there were three chops all small. A fourth would have made a big difference. Two diners had duck and another the scallops which were the special-they were quite large and seared perfectly."

  • "Cafe Juanita has long been our special occasion restaurant, but each time we go we vow to come more often. The restaurant is comfortably elegant; the staff is friendly and professional; the food is outstanding. We always order the octopus salad. All their pastas are excellent. When it's on the menu, Holly cooks a wonderful version of branzino. Finally, the wine selections are extensive and well thought out, and sommelier is knowledgable and helpful."

  • "It was our first visit to Cafe Juanita. The menu was creative, and the food was excellent. Ordered duck breast dish and daily seafood of scallops. Presentations were perfect; portions enough to satisfy hunger (a plus!); taste combinations of ingredients were excellent! More waitstaff than usually found in restaurants, thus the patrons were seamlessly attended to. Very nice! Looking forward to a return visit."

  • "Absolute treasure of a restaurant on the Eastside. The food was divine, service (Kristen(?) impeccable, and attention to detail superb - including the personal notes placed in the reservation when booking. The vegatarin selections added greatly to the overall experience. Well Done and we shall return."

  • "It is wonderful to go to a restaurant and experience great service, knowledgeable servers, relaxing ambience, wonderful food and no rush -- all in the same place. The menu had so many great sounding dishes that we asked our server for suggestions, telling him what sounded good from the various sections. He came up with excellent sequence suggestions and matched them with wines. He was superb with all suggestions. My wife and I had a wonderful, relaxed, memorable dinner for her birthday."

  • "Best Italian food in Northwest! I hosted a large dinner and all of my guests were blown away, including a very sophisticated Italian foodie. Holly and her team are extraordinary. I can't wait to go back with my wife!"

  • "When we enter Cafe Juanita life immediately calms down and happiness and specialness take over. We have been to Cafe Juanita many times over 15 years, and it has always been perfect or nearly so. The food is simply outstanding, from first course to dessert. And the service! We are always treated like welcome guests by the most professional and warmest wait staff in the area. It's actually hard for me to describe how Cafe Juanita makes me feel - happy, at home, like everyone there is so glad we are dining with them. And we can relax completely when we're there because we know the timing, the food, the attention will be just right. We love the fact that our children, now teens, have always been treated with the same respect and care as adults"

  • "We went to Cafe Juanita for a going away dinner for a dear friend. We couldn't have picked a better spot! The food was exquisite - I had the shaved asparagus salad and the rabbit for an entree. Both were outstanding! Pork cheeks and salmon were also bit hits at our table, as well as the steak lettuce salad. And the service was truly exceptional. Definitely my top choice for a special occasion celebration."

  • "It's always a treat to return home to CJ, and we swooned over their rhubarb celebration. The Rhuby Moonshiner (I may have that name wrong) on the cocktail list was delicious, not too sweet. Thank you Holly & crew!"

  • "I have been to Cafe Juanita for dinner 5 times now, and all but one of them was a spectacular success. I felt one of the times, the pork cheeks I ordered were over salted. The other 4 times, everything was perfect. From the appetizer to the desert, the food had a deep rich flavor, without the use of excessive amount of oil or butter. On initial appearance it seems a bit pricey, but when you taste the food, you realize that you would be willing to pay double."

  • "The food was excellent but with that said..we have had excellent food that cost less at other fine restaurants. The service was superb ..but the ambience was extremely lacking. "

  • "This was the best meal we've had in Seattle in years. The food, service, wine, and ambience were of the. Highest quality. Exquisite and distinctive favors, very professionally served. In this time when every chef seems to be doing a version of pub fare, Holly Smith still runs a real restaurant--the best in The Seattle area at this time."

  • "Not a note was missed, not a course was off. Everything was astoundingly delicious and beautifully prepared. The wine was great, the sommelier very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, the staff unobtrusive and efficient and gracious. With Rover's gone, Café Juanita is becoming our go-to fine dining experience. More/better ambience than Canlis and the food is just so good. "

  • "I come with a friend from Boston who always wants to eat here when she's in town. It's a lovely, friendly restaurant and the food is unfailing wonderful. I'm planning to bring another friend here for her birthday in November. It's the first restaurant I've been to that sends email and phone messages as reminders. Not only does it remind me--though I don't need reminding, but it lets me know I'm on their books."

  • "The food was fine, the service was great but the bill was horrendous for 3 people. $70.00 for a steak and a $300.00+ bill for three people is highly overpriced for what you get."

  • "We ordered a five-course meal to share between the two of us. Each course was perfectly timed and the food excellent. Service not pushy, an yet attentive. Highly recommended for any occasion."
