  • "I ate at Cafe Juanita recently. I got a beet salad and a pasta with lamb ragu. The beet salad was nicely dressed and tasty, except it was slightly over-salted. The pasta (maltagliata) with lamb ragu was so salty it was almost inedible. Given the prices Cafe Juanita asks, one would expect a much better result."

  • "It was my second time at Cafe Juanita and this time, I (an omnivore) came with a gluten-free friend and a vegetarian friend. Amazingly, the restaurant had a completely separate vegetarian menu (the sure way to my friend's heart) and our waitress easily answered their questions about the dishes. They even brought out a separate gluten-free bread for the other friend. The food was excellent, as was the wine list. My only criticism is that I found the food a little salty both times I've been there, even though I tend to prefer my food saltier than most."

  • "Overall we had a wonderul experience. The lamb was overcooked for one diner in our party but they served a new plate and did not charge us for it. They also comped several other items. The server was lovely but not over the top which I really appreciated. Overall I might order differently if I have the cahnce to return. The Miners lettuce salad was overdressed (don't like more dressing then leaves). There were a couple of other inconsistencies with portions but I found the food to be tasty and the atmosphere was perfect for my mood."

  • "We went for our anniversary. We heard great things about this rest and always wanted to go, we just didnt have that special ocasion since it is a little on the pricey side. Service and food were good. It is a house converted into a rest. Def. not the best place to go for a romantic dinner.The tables were all stationed one next to the other with no privacy. We could totally hear what the other table was talking about. The server of the table next to us when he was filling the glasses of wine, I totally feel I had his derriere on my face becuase of the limited space he had in between tables. We have been to other rests on our anniversary and we felt it was a special ocassion. Here, we were one more table at this rest. No special treatmeant."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 28th anniversary and it was the best, most exquisitely prepared food I have had the pleasure of consuming in many years. We shared all but the main course. What they did with the romaine, I can't explain! The breads were pure butter and something else! The lamb and the foie gras were absolutely wonderful. We swooned over our wine and dessert. I cannot say enough nice things about this place. Our server was a wonderful resource for recommendations, as we do not know Italian! If you get a chance, go!"

  • "I went to Cafe Juanita to celebrate my 65th birthday and had a great time. Though the staff knew it was my birthday, and several of them wished me a happy birthday throughout the evening, they did not do anything to call attention to us and let me and my wife celebrate in our own way. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding.This was a very special birthday for me, and I am glad I chose Cafe Juanita as the place to celebrate it."

  • "I chose this restaurant for my wife's birthday based on the high rating and we love most Italian food(?). We had trouble finding the place because no first class restaurant would be in some decrepit looking house. The front door wouldn't be inviting in any situation. The floors bounce every time somebody walls by. You are so close to your neighbours that you can't miss their conversations. Everything we ordered was excellent. The server was very knowledgeable. There was one pasta dish, one salad and one soup. The dessert selection however was great and very tasty. I feel severely ripped off when you charge the prices (Thank goodness we didn't have wine) and the building is overlooking a dumpy ravine and they can't fix up the building."

  • "WE had our wedding reception here, so we went back for our anniversary and was not disappointed! We started off with a bite of rapini fritti and a lemon/ginger gin cocktail. I could have eaten a bowl of the fritti, and from there, it just got better, to include a duck served with a green garlic flan and pickled rhubarb that my wife couldn't stop raving about. We were treated with just the right amount of service. Lovely lovely!"

  • "The modest-looking house that is home to Cafe Juanita doesn't prepare you for the outstanding experience. We had a well-paced, delicious meal at what we thought was the nicest table in the restaurant (table 22). We knew it was a hidden gem but had no idea how outstanding Cafe Juanita was. The food was impeccable as was our service. Can't think of anything that could have been improved. Definitely up there with dinners at Rover's and Canlis! But not uppity or stuffy at all. We will definitely go back. Plus, the chef was super friendly. He chatted with us for 10 minutes on our way out the door."

  • "This is my second visit to Cafe Juanita and they are well deserving of the awards and accolades. I went with some girlfriends who weren't foodies but wanted the exposure. Everything was ready for our arrival. From taking coats, to seating, servers were very attentive and kept water glasses filled. My friend, unsure of what not-so-sweet vodka cocktail she wanted was served the "Vesper" from the Casino Royal movie. Menu items were graciously explained. Foie gras, sweetbreads & lamb tongue was SUPERB! My friends' apple fritter & goat cheese dessert was delicious, but I went for more Foie. 20 year tawnys to finish. Excellent. Just absolutely excellent all around."

  • "I have heard about this place for a long time and finally we got to go. It is about 22 miles from our house. The food was worth the drive. I had the best steak I think I have ever eaten, truly remarkable. All the food was great. I was surprised by the service, not bad, but also not very attentive. We sat with empty plates way too long, sat when we first arrived way too long. This is not what I heard about the place. We also had a very loud party of 6 next to us and this distracted from what would have been a nearly perfect place. I would recommend it still."

  • "I knew I was in for a treat when I received a call the day before the reservation -- not just to confirm, but to ask if this meal was for a special occasion and whether any in my party had food allergies/sensitivities. Our wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and provided excellent recommendations. We were not rushed. The ambiance was great -- while the tables were a little close together, the noise level was very acceptable. I will definitely put this on my 'short list' for special dinners!"

  • "We dine out frequently, usually on the Seattle side. Rarely write a review. Had not been back to Cafe Juanita in five+ years. Service was great, professional, engaging (and patient with questions!). Food was pretty uneven. Steelhead and seared fois gras undercooked. Beef cheeks, exceptionally fatty. There was a service error on one of the shared plates - for four people. They agreeably corrected the mistake but brought back only a half portion (instead of the larger plate initially ordered). Felt kind of cheap. Some of the desserts were just "off" as well. Since these were clients we were entertaining, wasn't the time to comment. Kind of bummed out - especially when the bill is $500."

Sadly, we have found our last several dinners disappointing. The wait staff was unsatisfactory , the menu difficult to decipher, and the quality of the food just not what it used to be. It will be some time before we will be willing to try it again."

  • "I've eaten at CJ assorted times and always thought it was good - never great, but always fine. However, my recent dinner was great - every bite of the yum yum beet salad, awesomely unusual risotto and apple fritter-ish dessert was outstanding. And added to that, our server was fun, totally knowledgable and professional and made the evening that much better. Either I got very lucky or CJ has stepped up its game."

  • "We've been to Cafe Juanita a few times and it is a solid choice for a fancy night out in Kirkland. We loved the antipasti (grilled octopus and spot prawns) as well as the duck entree and the rabbit. The gelato is also delicious and they even sell pints of it to go so that is a plus. The service is the highlight of the entire experience. The sommelier was able to suggest two bottles of amazing Italian wine to our taste and price range. Overall great dinner."
