Cafe JosieOne of our favorite restaurantsOne of our favorite restaurants and it just keeps getting better.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressive experienceI truly enjoyed this dining experience, and I would recommend this to friends. The food was fresh and I could tell it was prepared with care. The brie cheese was a great appetizer, and the Wagyu steak was amazing. Creme Brûlée was fantastic - prepared perfectly. The creme had a uniquely rich taste. Our waiter and the owner, Cody, were very attentive and kind.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely eveningthe four of us had a great meal I we received just the right amount of food plus the service was the very best.. we loved the atmosphere and being able to carry on a conversation6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMKV birthdayWe've always liked this restaurant, and this time it was better than ever. Quiet atmosphere. Beautiful interior. Portions sizes were just right and the food was inventive and wonderful.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTop-5 on West 6thMake no mistake about it--this is one of Austin's top-5 restaurants, capitalizing on locally sourced, awesomely prepared ingredients. Regardless of the course, CJ's attention to detail on the plate is as good as it gets. The highly attentive, white tablecloth service only enhances the ambiance a guy wants when dining with a beautiful girl. While the wine list could use a little bit of work, the fact that CJ is one of the few remaining wine-friendly restaurants in Austin says everything about Cody Taylor's confidence in the amazing cuisine being created in the kitchen. I can't recall enjoying a dish as much as Brandon Fuller's balsamic-glazed goat ribs, which we kicked off with a super-fresh farm tomato salad featuring heirlooms. MJR 27May135/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCafe Josie a lovely place! We enjoyed our dinner immensely, The fried oyster appetizers are fabulous. We also had the snapper, which was out of this world. Everything was fresh. One person felt the Octopus was a little over-cooked, and I had red wine, which I prefer at room temperature, rather than cold. Those were our only complaints, and were small compared to the lovely atmosphere, food, and wonderful waitress! I recommend Cafe Josie for a special occasion, which is why we were there5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent and knowledgable staffOur waiter was congenial, knew the menu, made suggestions without pushing. An extremely pleasant luncheon outcome.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Nice!My favorite lady and I are on a mission to check out as many Austin restaurants as we can before it's time to go on a diet. We're very glad we moved Cafe Josie up on the list. We dined early on a Friday night, but the noise level was already pretty high. It's not the restaurants fault, but the crying toddler's wailing echoed trhoughout our dinner. Despite that slight interruption the food was spectacular. I love Red Snapper, and my Cafe Josie Red Snapper was the best I have ever had! We will be returning here soon!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost Flawless ExperienceWe were looking for a special restaurant to honor my daughter on her graduation. Although it was a hectic graduation weekend, from the time we entered Cafe Josie, our expectations were exceeded (until the end of the meal, which I'll explain later). Our server, Roger, was efficient, personable, and helpful, and the food was outstanding. The only disappointment was that I'd called in advance to have something done in my daughter's honor. I was reassured (by the man I talked to on the phone, Cody) that there would be a very special dessert presented with a candle. That never happened. We watched while someone at the next table got an amazing looking pastry with a candle in it. I told my daughter, "That's what I was told you were getting."5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMpretty goodDecent food but nothing spectacular. Very quiet atmosphere5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was awesome. MyEverything was awesome. My friend and I were in town for a conference and we were made to feel welcome and special.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA truly enjoyable dining experienceMy partner and I are always trying new restaurants and we picked Cafe Josie after reading the reviews and perusing the menu. We were pleased with every aspect of our choice. Each of the items we had was memorable and delicious. Unfortunately for the restaurant it was almost deserted early on a Monday night but it was our boon. Our server was very attentive and helpful with the menu. She steered me towards the Red Snapper and it was superbly cooked. My partner had the Waygu beef and was amazed at the depth of flavor. P.S. If you like Caesar salad then do yourself a favor and order this one!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIntimate diningCafe Josie was a fun experiene. The food was great, ambience intimate, good wine list and good service.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for special occasionsWhether it is an anniversary, birthday, or just to get some great food, you need to check out Cafe Josie. My wife and I have been there on a number of occasions and Cafe Josie is never a let down!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFoie Gras for Dessert? Yes Please! We heard the menu was recently updated, so we had to check it out! We enjoyed the cheese plate (highly recommended!!) as well as the masa cauliflower, which was perfectly seasoned. We then moved on to entrees - Balsamic Marinated Goat Ribs - Tender, falling off the bone; and the Seared Sea Scallops, perfectly cooked with hints of orange and really fresh parsley. after the entrees, a nice refreshing tomato salad, which was sweet, with just the right balance of vinegar. Finally, a foie gras creme, with slightly macerated strawberries to complete. It was an amazingly rich treat to cap off a perfect meal. Good selection for Wine/Beer; Service is excellent, well timed; the restaurant is clean, with crisp linens and natural light.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAustin gemThe redfish was fantastic, definitely would go again.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGood with some caveats. Our first visit to the revamped location. With the exception that the wine we had chosen was not available everything else met our expectations. The goat ribs were outstanding however the Caesar salad had too much of a smoky taste for my liking. We'll be back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and ServiceCafe Jose has always been good but they have recently upped their game. The new(ish) menu is wonderful. Everyone at our table ordered something different and we all kept talking about how good the meal was hours after we were done.
Staff at other restaurants need to come to Cafe Jose for training. Somehow our waiter was always there when needed, or when a glass was almost empty, but he never hovered or intruded on our conversation.
Cafe Jose harkens back to what fine dining in old Austin was like; nothing over the top or pretentious, simply exceptional food and service.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first visit toThis was my first visit to Cafe Josie but I'll be back. Loved the quiet ambiance, where I didn't have to raise my voice to be heard. After so many restaurants that serve miniscule portions, I was grateful for the large portions at Cafe Jose, even for the small plate dishes. The food was excellent; I sent my compliments to the chef via our attentive waiter. It reminded me of a favorite restaurant in Paris.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful restaurant withWonderful restaurant with fabulous food. Loved the carrot soup and the braised goat ribs. Service was outstanding!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely wonderful. We wentAbsolutely wonderful. We went during Austin restaurant week. The wine parings they selected were brilliant. The food was outstanding and waiter was attentive. I wanted to eat a quart of the brown butter ice cream and pear dessert. One of our favorite meals ever!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMTimIndoors would have been a bit too noisy for me, albeit not that bad. We sat outdoors and it was quiet and a wonderful evening to be out. The ambiance on the patio was a little bit pedestrian (small wooden tables without table cloth), but still nicer than you might expect at a "cafe".The food was very good (I had the scallops). My wife's veggie platter was more average. The wine list is very good at reasonable prices. The service was outstanding.All-in-all a wonderful evening.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing flavor combinationsThe food at Cafe Josie is amazing! This gem is tucked behind Clark's Oyster Var on 6th street, and that helps keep the noise level down. The wait staff was excellent. We sat on the outdoor patio which was very nice. The pepita redfish was to die for. And the roasted pork shoulder was like gourmet comfort food on steroids. We will definitely go back!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had not been to Cafe JosieWe had not been to Cafe Josie in a while and we were thrilled to have found it again. One of the best restaurants in Austin. And the wait staff were excellent. Highly recommend.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMEven tho' Cafe Josie has beenEven tho' Cafe Josie has been sold, it still is a wonderful place with wonderful food. .3/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
