  • "The food was good. The service was okay. The chairs are horrible!"

  • "4th time at CG+we were truly disappointed. We made a reservation where seated where we had asked to be, all friendly and nice. Although it was obvious that our kids are a bit young for the regular menu we were not asked if we wanted to see the bambino menu neither was it given to us without asking for it. Our food+wine were good, the service was very poor, although not many tables were occupied. Kid's beverages were simply forgotten+when we tried to order a dessert for them we were just told that the ice cream would be made with alcohol, no alternative given. Wow-for a so called italian place pretty bambino unfriendly, kids+ parents were disappointed, not sure if the food is good enough for us to return."

  • "Very good restuarant experience. We went there to celebrate a birthday, and it definitely helped to make the occasion a special one."

  • "Excellent setting, food was very good. Waiter was attentive BUT our group of 6 had to wait a LONG TIME for the dinners to arrive. Peter, the owner/manager(?) responded by giving the table a free bottle of wine. Thanks. We will ALL be back to this "hidden gem""

  • "Very bad service by Marc good food and better wines"

  • "My wife and I had a very pleasant dinner there last Sat. night. The food was good, the service was good and the prices were a little high but the portions made it worth it. My only minor complaint was that their house wines at $9.25 per glass were high, $7 or 7.50 would have been more in line."

  • "The food was delicious! Some of the best veal we have had. Really enjoyed it!"

  • "This was our first visit and it was facilitated by a Living Social offer. We were greeted warmly, promptly seated at a lovely table and quickly visited by our server who welcomed us and asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. When informed that the four of us were celebrating an anniversary and a birthday, she cutely told us that something special would be arriving. Drinks promptly were served and our order was placed after the specials were revealed. Bread was warm and crispy. Each of us found our selections to be outstanding, whether a special offering or a standard menu item--my deboned veal chop parm (thinly pounded) was fabulous. Dinner was followed by a complimentary desert wine and a nice tiramisu. We'll return!"

  • "When selecting CG, we didn't realize that the restaurant was still offering the Savor Sarasota Deal, but decided to opt for it when we saw that it was still available. The food was superb, however, we were somewhat surprised when the entrees, as delicious as they were, arrived without any accompaniment, rather unusual for an Italian restaurant not to offer a side of pasta or vegetable with the main course!! Do the restaurants see the special requests/comments given when the reservation is made? We indicated that we were celebrating an anniversary- no acknowledgement!!"

  • "For our first visit, I had sent the restaurant an email 2-3 days before my reservation requesting a romantic setting as we were celebrating our 44th anniversary. Have yet to hear back. We were placed in a small room with several loud diners. I ordered a cocktail that was not mixed correctly & sent it back so I settle for close. The server never came back to see if I would like anything else to drink, we finally flagged down another server & I got an iced tea. In the meantime our server had decided to camp out at a nearby table & paid us no attention the rest of the meal. We ordered lobster ravioli but never found the lobster. This was an extremely disappointing visit, we will not return."

  • "My husband and I and our 2 children (ages 6 and 11) went to Cafe Gabbiano after spending the day at the beach. We chose to sit inside because of the heat. Our server was friendly and professional, and brought coloring pages to the children. The children and I had tortellini soup, buffalo mozzarella with pesto and crostini, pasta with vodka sauce, and pasta with butter. The vodka sauce was light but flavorful. My husband had a sautéd chicken breasts with mozzarella in a white wine, butter, garlic sauce with a touch of tomato added. His dinner came with a side of GF pasta as well. My husband who has Celiac couldn't get over how delicious the sauce on the chicken was. Our server brought coloring pages for the children. Highly recommend!"

  • "Ouch...they ran out of Grouper after telling everyone about a great Grouper special of the night. Run down decor, and seemed like a tired staff. No one introduced themselves by name. Not a place that we would rush back to. The pasta dishes were good."

  • "Changed owners a couple of years ago and went from a outstanding to average. Menu very limited."

  • "Hadn't been in a couple of years. Decor has "streamlined" -- we were the only ones in the large room at 7 (another party with kids had departed) and the hostess seated a loud couple directly beside us instead of anywhere else in the empty room. Annoying to say the least. Waiter was exceptionally good--and very knowledgable about the large, diverse wine list. They were well staffed. Mozzerella in caprese salad was amazingly good-semi soft and fresh. Way too much salt in the mushroom sauce. Despite having few patrons that night, we only saw the owner as we were walking out -- no presence in the dining room. It has been a mainstay in the Village for many years--will probably continue on."

  • "This is a lovely restaurant on Siesta Key; the food was excellent, but the staff is unorganized. A wedding party was having their reception and the bride finally has to request they block off their dining area, as people were walking through to find the restrooms. The staff had disagreements with other staff members and discussed them in front of patrons. We had reservations and they had to move us to three different tables. We had dinner with wine paring, but the first selection came without the wine. Patrons were complaining as their food took over a hour. Parking was at a minimum and it took us 20 minutes to find a parking place and no valet. What a shame; the food was good, but the owner needs to take a hard at the issues."

  • "The food was great. Not your typical Italian selection or flavor. Had read about the ambiance of indoor dining area but did not get a chance to eat inside. The outside patio is nice and comfortable but not my style. Too many of natures creatures flying about while your trying to eat. Will try the indoor dining next time "

  • "We love this restaurent. Great food. We have never been disappointed until a couple of days ago. We took a few friends and told them how wonderful this place was. Food was wonderful, Service was very poor. So disappointed."

  • "The view of and noise from the parking lot did not add to the ambience . The wine paired dinner was average in flavor, the main course came without wine, we had to ask twice. After telling the server that my wife was very allergic to strawberry the final course came out with them anyway. The place was will staffed but the staff was not well managed. At no time did a manager ask how our meal was. "

  • "The home made pasta was very good and my partner had the grouper which she said was very good. I think it is overpriced for what you get."

  • "It had a very casual appearance from the outside with a few tables on the porch, but the inside has a very nice ambiance, especially for a beach town. The service was a team effort between the waiter, bus boy, bartender, and others, but the result was very good. The Spinach Salad special was delicious as was the house Chardonnay. My entrée of Grouper was just OK. It had a little too much lemon for my taste, but the side dish of vegetables was very good. The salad was not included with the main course, so the total was a little pricey. I would try this place again, but probably order something more Italian."

  • "My husband and I ate here for the first time and can't stop raving about the food. We had the osso bucco ravioli in bolognese and the veal st. Luccia and both were outstanding. They have an extensive wine list, and a great selection by the glass as well. We can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu."

  • "With it so hard to find truly outstanding Italian dining in Sarasota, we were extremely please to find another one. Cafe Gabbiano hits all the notes. The veal was very tender and delicious. The side of Parmesaen Rissoto was among the best I've ever had. The wine list includes modestly priced, but exceptionally fine, selections."

  • "The food is very very good. The wine list is expansive and expensive. Ask for reccomendations unless you know Italian wines well. We will be back!"

  • "Great service and great food. Sat outside where it was quiet and we could catch up with our friends. Spinach salad was awesome and so fresh (enough for two). Veal was tender and very tasty. Hugh portions. My husband had the grouper special and loved it. We would return the next time we visit Siesta Key. "

  • "It was our first time at Café Gabbiano, it was my wife's birthday and I requested a quiet table alone since we rarely get out without child in tow. We were sat in the wine room, were a table five feet from us were having a very loud and animated conversation, it completely ruined our mood, we could barley speak to one another. To make matter worse there is what only seems like an office door or an exit right behind our table and during the meal someone tried to come through the door and hit my wife's chair and then the server had to go into the room to get a wine bag, making my wife have to move so he could get by. It just made the night even more awkward. I must say the food was great, it was a shame I had to eat so fast to leave. "

  • "Cafe Gabbiano is our "go to" restaurant because it is close by and has good food and service. The food is consistently good however the service can sometimes be a little slow if they are crowded. My wife's favorite dinner choice is the Lobster Ravioli and I tend to order the Grouper but I love their Lasagna too. I have never ordered their steak because of the price. It may be worth it. I have had the Veal Chop, which is very good but has a price that is also a little difficult to swallow. The ambiance is very nice, especially inside. My one complaint is the outside seating. The black vinyl chairs are not very comfortable and don't go with the outdoor atmosphere. "

  • "Since relocating to Florida, this is my favorite restaurant. With friends visiting, we chose Cafe Gabbiano. Our waiter, Tommy was good, but service was much slowe and took a long time to get our food. People who came in well after us, received their fod and bill long before we were even served our food. Not sure why as it was not as crowded as normal at 7:15. We will still come back, and hope we won't experience the long delay. A little dissapointed because it was my birthday dinner celebration with friends we haven't seen in 5 months."

  • "Maybe they have new (inadequate) management? restaurant was not extremely crowded, nor were there people clamoring for our table. Service was poor. Very rushed, when food arrived it was hastily delivered. servers didn't know who got what entree, they served across 1-2 people to set plate, plopped our food down and scurried away. Side dishes didn't come until well into the meal, which I had to get up and ask for....which was no big deal since I was still waiting for my entree... They offer Gluten-free pasta, which I requested. Did not receive. That's why I had no entree. By the time my entree was finished; we were done. No one filled water glasses, asked if everything was ok, etc. Oh, also it was a $200- dinner 6 people. Will not go back."

  • "Both of our visits to Café Gabbiano this March were well worth it. The wait staff is terrific as is the food. Our only complaint was the use of the vans in the outdoor porch on our last visit which made a cool night even cooler."

  • "We have had the pleasure of eating dinner 3 times in 3 week's, and can't wait to go again! The food was absolutely delicious, from appitizer's , fresh hot bread through dessert and excellent wine, Service was the best, they could not do enough for us. We ate inside and had Marco as our waiter and another young gentleman was helping him, they were great!!!"

  • "Six of us dined at Cafe Gabbiano on Saturday. We were welcomed by name and immediately taken to our table. Our waiter, Tommy, was personable, knowledgable, efficient and struck the perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive. The calamari appetizer was large and great! Bread was served warm with both butter and dipping sauce. Our entrees, Scaloppine Mamma Lucia, Pollo Mamma Lucia, Scaloppine Piccata, and Costolette Di Vitello Milanese were perfectly prepared - tender, flavorful, and plentiful. The side Parmesan risotto was superb! We had -as Billy Joel sings - "a bottle of white, bottle of red" - delicious house wines with the Gabbiano label. It was a perfect dining experience, a first for three of us. We'll ALL be back!"
