Diner Reviews
  • "It was our first time at Café Gabbiano, it was my wife's birthday and I requested a quiet table alone since we rarely get out without child in tow. We were sat in the wine room, were a table five feet from us were having a very loud and animated conversation, it completely ruined our mood, we could barley speak to one another. To make matter worse there is what only seems like an office door or an exit right behind our table and during the meal someone tried to come through the door and hit my wife's chair and then the server had to go into the room to get a wine bag, making my wife have to move so he could get by. It just made the night even more awkward. I must say the food was great, it was a shame I had to eat so fast to leave. "

  • "We just moved into the area and was looking for a great Italian restaurant, glad we found it. Service was great and food was excellent, my wife had the lasagna and I had the veal scallopiny. We will be back soon."

  • "3rd time we have been there. Hidden gem among Siesta Key beach shops and other restaurants. Veal dishes are always outstanding. Service great. Wine selections extensive."

  • "Cafe Gabbiano is our "go to" restaurant because it is close by and has good food and service. The food is consistently good however the service can sometimes be a little slow if they are crowded. My wife's favorite dinner choice is the Lobster Ravioli and I tend to order the Grouper but I love their Lasagna too. I have never ordered their steak because of the price. It may be worth it. I have had the Veal Chop, which is very good but has a price that is also a little difficult to swallow. The ambiance is very nice, especially inside. My one complaint is the outside seating. The black vinyl chairs are not very comfortable and don't go with the outdoor atmosphere. "

  • "Since relocating to Florida, this is my favorite restaurant. With friends visiting, we chose Cafe Gabbiano. Our waiter, Tommy was good, but service was much slowe and took a long time to get our food. People who came in well after us, received their fod and bill long before we were even served our food. Not sure why as it was not as crowded as normal at 7:15. We will still come back, and hope we won't experience the long delay. A little dissapointed because it was my birthday dinner celebration with friends we haven't seen in 5 months."

  • "Maybe they have new (inadequate) management? restaurant was not extremely crowded, nor were there people clamoring for our table. Service was poor. Very rushed, when food arrived it was hastily delivered. servers didn't know who got what entree, they served across 1-2 people to set plate, plopped our food down and scurried away. Side dishes didn't come until well into the meal, which I had to get up and ask for....which was no big deal since I was still waiting for my entree... They offer Gluten-free pasta, which I requested. Did not receive. That's why I had no entree. By the time my entree was finished; we were done. No one filled water glasses, asked if everything was ok, etc. Oh, also it was a $200- dinner 6 people. Will not go back."

  • "Both of our visits to Café Gabbiano this March were well worth it. The wait staff is terrific as is the food. Our only complaint was the use of the vans in the outdoor porch on our last visit which made a cool night even cooler."

  • "We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past. On this occasion service was indifferent and poor. We will give it one more chance."

  • "We have had the pleasure of eating dinner 3 times in 3 week's, and can't wait to go again! The food was absolutely delicious, from appitizer's , fresh hot bread through dessert and excellent wine, Service was the best, they could not do enough for us. We ate inside and had Marco as our waiter and another young gentleman was helping him, they were great!!!"

  • "Six of us dined at Cafe Gabbiano on Saturday. We were welcomed by name and immediately taken to our table. Our waiter, Tommy, was personable, knowledgable, efficient and struck the perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive. The calamari appetizer was large and great! Bread was served warm with both butter and dipping sauce. Our entrees, Scaloppine Mamma Lucia, Pollo Mamma Lucia, Scaloppine Piccata, and Costolette Di Vitello Milanese were perfectly prepared - tender, flavorful, and plentiful. The side Parmesan risotto was superb! We had -as Billy Joel sings - "a bottle of white, bottle of red" - delicious house wines with the Gabbiano label. It was a perfect dining experience, a first for three of us. We'll ALL be back!"

  • "Restaurant came highly rated. I m not sure why? We were meeting friends to treat them for dinner due to their kindness in the past. We were embarrassed with the lack of service and the food was delivered cold. Vodka sauce on lobster ravioli was cold and overly thick, but flavored well.. Had it been even warm would have helped. Eggplant parmesan was simple and lacking in quantity for the price point (3 small pieces) at $17.. Salads were pricey as well so we shared 2 between the 4 of us. Again tasty but really small portions and mostly lettuce. Veal was good but not great and for $28 really? Too many other great places on Siesta Key!"

  • "We're used to fine dining, and this ranks with the best. Veal Momma Lucia (with eggplant and mushroom sauce) was fabulous, cut like butter. Must be tasted to be believed. Eggplant Parm ranked with the best I've ever enjoyed. I grew up in the Italian neighborhoods of North Jersey, and never ate better than this. Service was impeccable and friendly without being overbearing. Seemed to be a bit pricey at first, but the portion size explained it -- couldn't find room for dessert. I will be back -- again and again (even with the 45 minute drive)."

  • "Usually very good. This visit they brought our side of pasta before our fish. A few minutes later the fish arrived which had to be filleted. Thus the pasta cold. Fish very good."

  • "I read an article that the chef changes his menu every 6mo or so. I don't go very often, but when I do the menu is still the same. The server did not tell us about any specials. The food was just average. I don't want to drive 20 miles to Siesta Key for average."

  • "Delicious Lasagna! A simple dish yes, but one of the best I have had anywhere. My guest had wonderful fresh fish. And leave room for a wonderful Tartuffe for dessert. Fine dining in Siesta Key Village. ."

  • "I took my boyfriend to Cafe Gabbiano for his birthday. There were 4 couples altogether, the other 3 couples had never heard of Cafe Cabbiano. I was a little concerned because my friends are very choosy when it comes to restaurants. Well, low and behold they all LOVED it there. They loved the atmosphere and the food, and they all want to go back there again and bring family with them. It was a great night, had a great time."

  • "Had never heard of this place but after looking at some reviews we thought we'd try it. Glad we did! Everyone was super nice and accommodating. The wine list is amazing. It's a cozy but cool atmosphere. And the food...awesome! Excellent calamari appetizer and the entree's were outstanding. We enjoyed the whole experience very much! We'll be back for sure."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday and the staff at Cafe Gabianno were wonderfully attentive without being intrusive. Especially one particular staff member, "Michael" who showed a special talent of using his listening skills to provide small services that we had yet to request. It was refreshing and made for a very pleasant and lovely dining experience. Thank You."

  • "The experience was amazing. I took my wide there for our 5 year anniversary and I honestly speaking this place surpassed my expectations. The food was incredible the wine spectacular and the service was the best part. Thank you to Steve our server who made our stay a very Personal and professional one Thank you"

  • "Have been to this restaurant before and remember a nice Dining experience with good food. But this last dining experience was probably our last. Servicers had no idea who had what when bringing the food to our table. Grouper tasted fishy and the sea bass was mushy. We were celebrating a birthday and the servers brought out the free birthday desert and never asked if anyone else wanted to order desert. Overall, id say it wasn't the best experience."

  • "I use to love this restaurant but have been very disappointed on my last two visits. Bottom line is if you dine inside the restaurant you will have reasonably good service and good food. Patio dining is another issue. Service is way off, missed items, food does not arrive warm/hot and servers just can't get it together. I may give it another try but never outside. A shame because this place was a real winner"

  • "We live locally, but had never been to Gabbiano's. Well, what a great find! The food was exceptional - from the app to the dessert! The service was professional and friendly - a hard match to find. The owner, Marc, seated us and welcomed us. We'll be returning. The 'BYOB' feature is nice, too. Our server, Julio, poured our wine just as if we'd gotten it there! Very nice! One thing I must mention, a little music would be nice. : )"

  • "Tucked in a quaint neighborhood amid some shops and other establishments, Cafe Gabbiano is a great choice for a great Italian meal. My wife and I went to Cafe Gabbiano as a late Valentine's Day dinner, and they made us feel very welcome and delighted us with some great food. Not overly pretentious or pricey (which we like), yet "fine" enough" to make it special. One can sit on the patio, in the "cellar" amidst the large wine selection, or elsewhere - the atmosphere is charming and comfortable - and the staff is great as well. We had some very standard Italian dishes - bruschetta, pollo parmigiana, lasagne - each was delicious with lots of flavor, "just right" quantities, and well presented. A must visit when in the Sarasota area."

  • "I was disappointed in the food and the waitress was apparently overloaded with other tables or new to the job. The accompanying pasta to my veal Florentine was very cool and pasty with a thin, unimaginative red sauce. I didn't feel the meal was worth the cost considering three glasses of wine."

  • "This was our second visit. Brought friends this time. 3 of us had wonderful veal dishes. Service was great. I would stick with the marvelous choices of veal entrees and other Italien choices. I had a grouper special that was just O.K. The flavors just didn't do it for me. Great selection of wines."

  • "My Reservations were for 7:15pm I arrived with my party right at 7:10pm and we were seated immediately. That was the only thing that went right because it took until 9:10pm to get our dinner. This was supposed be my Birthday Dinner and thought we would try a new place. I apparently made a huge mistake, we couldn't even have coffee or desert it was so late I was very disappointed. The food was average. Our Table was so small I had to put my bread basket on top of my purse on the empty chair next to me to make room for our appetizers which by the way one of them was an order of mussels which came out cold and had to be sent back. They did send me a new hot order of them and did not charge us for it."

  • "This little restaurant, with quaint decor, was a new place for us to try for a special occasion. The atmosphere was good. The quality of food for the price was disappointing. We had the sole and veal. The sole was fine, but the fried, breaded veal was mediocre. Our antipasti (mixed) was just so-so. The bruschetta was okay, not wonderful. Service was slow. We don't plan on going back. (This was the restaurant on the key. I understand there's another Gabbiano's, but haven't tried that."

  • "Cafe Gabbiano is high quality Italian cuisine on beautiful Siesta Key, just off the white sands of the Gulf. Being a local, I can recommend it to any visitors who want a lovely meal or the locals who want to avoid the routine chains. Food is freshly prepared and tastes like true Italian fare. Our choices included ossobucco ravioli (great dish!) and veal scallopini mama lucia (flavor-packed veal, mushroom, eggplant). Desserts are perfect homemade creations, especially tiramisu and cannoli. Service was good, but do not be in rush. Kitchen prepares your food as ordered, so it's not a fast food schedule! Outdoor patio is nice, though it was enclosed our visit due to cool weather. Linger on a warm evening for perfect meal."

  • "We don't drink so can't rate wine or bar. Service was OK for a busy Friday night but I do have one complaint. I ordered the salad of the day which as described had strawberries. When the salad showed up it had beets. I was never told. I ate it but if it had been my husband he would sent it back. I was told they were out of strawberries. This was about 6:30 and I believe they open at 4:00...very poor planning!!!"
