Delightful Mother's Day BrunchThanks for a delightful brunch. Food was delicious. Service was comfortable and we did not feel rushed. Chocolate croissants were ot warm but they were good anyway. Berry crepes were outstanding.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAll that we expected! Our daughter is fluent in French, and lived in Paris for 1 1/2 years, so we were excited to take her to Cafe Fundamental. We found the coffee outstanding, the pain au chocolat was the best outside of Paris, the duck confit hash delicious and very Parisian. We shared a Quiche Lorraine, which competed ably with the duck. The ham and manchego cheese omelette, while good, came in third (although the frites were remarkable). We wanted to try everything on the menu, but proper decorum dictated otherwise. Our server was very friendly and helpful, but not a hoverer. Obviously, we were very impressed with Cafe Fundamental, and plan to return soon, for dinner as well as brunch.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a good time!We were three people, two of us thought the food was great (ploughman platter, canard and porc) and the last one felt like despite her fish (poisson en papillotte) was perfectly cooked, the portion was on the small side and the taste wasn't particularly out of the ordinary...
Desserts were very good also (chocolate au chocolat, key lime creme brulee and something else). The service was slower than what it usually is in an american restaurant but being from France we liked it.
Wine (cote du Rhone) was a little young (2011) but good nonetheless...
Overall great experience, I'll most definitely go again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is so good!! The serviceFood is so good!! The service was a little in the slow side, but we didn't seem to notice until the end.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our experienceWe enjoyed our experience at Cafe Fundamental. It is obvious Chef Jamie Watson is gifted; the food was divine. Our service was very good. The ambience was great and we felt like we were being taken care of by everyone from beginning to end.
I would just suggest Cafe Fundamental rethink one thing: We were surprised to be charged $2.00 for a club soda with lemon~a first for this dedicated driver. Our wait person explained it was because they "did not get it from a hose, but they bought individual bottles that were $2.00 each". (?) This felt Kind of chintzy for an upscale restaurant.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely evening at my favoriteLovely evening at my favorite restaurant. Classy bistro, wonderful food. It's a 10!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe hadn't heard of Cafe FundamentalWe hadn't heard of Cafe Fundamental before but once we walked in the door, we knew we were going to enjoy our dining experience. We will definitely be going back!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMCool restaurant on Porter Rd.New French restaurant in East Nashville. Nice, fresh selection of dishes for brunch and dinner. Cool and relaxing interiors. Nice, attentive service.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIn other restaurants we usuallyIn other restaurants we usually dread ordering any egg dish for the usual plastic results -- but Cafe Fundamental's egg dishes are outstanding. Recently we visited with two gusets for my husband's birthday (he was a caterer for 25 years and had classic training to serve an upscale clientele in Chicago). We continue to be impressed by your dishes & service! My husband said that the poached egg on the duck confit was perfect. He is VERY hard to please & you have not failed to please on our two visits there! BTW the blueberry Pain perdu was amazing. Thank you so much for such a remarkable restaurant experience!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSettle in and enjoy the flavors! Our table shared three appetizers - the seared scallops (yum), the Ploughman's Platter (meats and cheeses - also good), and the Fundamental Pate. The pate was surprisingly firm but the portion was generous and it tasted good. Those of us who were eating carbs (!) also enjoyed the house-baked bread with good butter. Service was friendly, but slow. By the time our Principal plates arrived, we were famished. We definitely could smell the food being prepared all night in the kitchen, which made us even more eager to eat. Two people had the yellow-eyed snapper special (delicious), two had the pork tenderloin wrapped in rosemary ham (scrumptious), one had the duck breast (outstanding), and one had the steak frites (wonderful. We'll be back!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAWESOME!This is the best restaurant in Nashville for dinner. The food is fabulous. I had the snapper special and my husband had the chicken on the menu and they were both outstanding!!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAt last a Nashville restaurantAt last a Nashville restaurant that does not feel it has to have "Southern Influence" as part of its menu. Sophisitcated and refreshing. We will be regulars!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Cafe FundamentalWe went to Cafe Fundamental for the first time for Easter brunch - outstanding! The duck confit hash with poached eggs was the best brunch dish I have ever had. We will be back!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second visit, and ourOur second visit, and our second fabulous meal with great service. My 83-year old father who lived in Paris thought the house pate and the canard a'la orange was lovely, like bistros he knew. We'll certainly be back! Thank you, Cafe Fundamental.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMwhat a wonderful meal. wewhat a wonderful meal. we ordered 4 different dishes and passed them around and liked everything! We will go again!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed the brunch.Really enjoyed the brunch. My husband said the food reminded him of what he ate in Paris at many of the cafes we frequented. I told him I am sure that is exactly what Jamie wanted us to experience...the wonderful French Cuisine!
Thanks Jamie!!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNice warm small restaurantNice warm small restaurant feel. The food was superbly cooked and flavorful.
Now our favorite place to take friends who love great food.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've only been to Cafe FundamentalWe've only been to Cafe Fundamental once but will certainly return. On a chilly Tuesday evening, we tucked into steaming bowls of a rich cassoulet, which was a treat. The service was friendly and attentive, answering questions about dishes and cocktails. The atmosphere was quiet (it was Tuesday evening, after all), but it was that kind of friendly atmosphere where the diners at the next table smile or speak with you, which is always nice. We look forward to returning on a weekend morning and on a night to sample their full menu. But, we'll certainly be back on Tuesday night for the special menu since everything looks so very tasty.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
