Chef/Owner Hector Ruiz welcomes you to Café Ena: A cozy intimate restaurant located in the tangletown neighborhood in south Minneapolis. Chef Ruiz pares his classic French technique and South American palate to present an exciting menu of Latin-Fusion cuisine. Begin your meal with a south american style ceviche, shrimp, fish, scallops and shrimp in a aji sauce. The many entrées include, scallops, halibut, pork tenderloin, Argentinean style steaks finished in a savory chimichurri. The wine list focuses on a wide range of varietals from Central and South America. Weekly Wine Flights are a great opportunity to sample the many styles offered on the list.   • "Our group of 3 former Harriet Avenue neighbors and friends met at Café Ena after a 20-year lapse in seeing each other. We extended our dinner and wine experience to nearly 4 hours. The staff was perfect in providing just the right level of attention and yet accommodating our long post-dinner conversation until we finally noticed that we were the only remaining table in the place. The wine list is wonderful. And, of course, the food is always incredibly tasty--and different."

I will continue to dine there time and time again........can't wait to go again. Many people loved the outdoor dining which has comfortable tables with umbrellas, but I usually prefer the quiet and ambiance of the dining room."

  • "We particularly enjoyed the appetizers - lots of incorporation of tropical flavours and delightful presentation - the guacomole was presented in a tower, and interestingly was a sans garlic interpretation. I liked that the menu was so different from what you find in your typical Mexican place. Lots of South American representation. Menu could be enhanced by some contributions from Brazil - after all, Brazil represents a little under half of Latin America.. Also, healthy eaters might have a bit of trouble with the entree menu - Cuban sandwiches are enormous and bready, entrees are pretty much all quite heavy. I only ate half my plate, although I enjoyed it."

  • "We went once on a whim and were impressed. Went back for lunch and we were disappointed. Third time was amazing. We started with empanadas. They were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, tasty meat (and seafood options) with an inventive sauce. For an entree, I had fish, with vegetables and a light cream sauce. Ordinarily, I think "light" cream is anything but light, but this was in fact light. The sangria was excellent. Tasty and with just enough alcohol to feel it, but not overwhelmingly the other flavors. We ate outside, which was very pleasant at least until everyone else left and the mosquitos discovered us."

Everyone in our group of four loved there meal. I had the chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. The guacamole is tremendous. We will be back to try more."

  • "Living on the west side, I had not heard of Cafe Ena, and was wonderfully surprised by a excellent dinner. We shared the guacamole appetizer, I had the Camarones and my wife the Carne a la Brava, all fantastic. The tables are packed a little tight, so I suggest requesting a booth. That said, we will certainly return."

  • "We were at Ena approximately 6 weeks ago. Great food. Great service. Saturdays' visit was not as good. They changed the composure of a shrimp appetizer which I was looking forward to having again. The change was not for the better. The old version (beer battered shrimp) was better. The new version has bright flavors, but the 'pancake' gets mushy from the dressing and the scallops had sand in them. Our waiter never asked 'How is everything?' He never offered coffee/beverage with dessert. Upon leaving the restaurant, no one at the hostess stand thanked us for coming or anything else-. Disappointing. Room for improvement."

  • "I felt that I had totally let down my friend from CAlifornia in choosing the menu Item which I chose (and she did as well). I have eaten there 2 times, and had forgotten that you over-salt the food. But this was really almost unpalatable. I was brought up not to waste food, so I ate it and did not enjoy any bit of it.. I can't recall the name of the item, but it was pork-- lots of onion and rice. No other vegetable. One other time I ate there and I ordered roast pork, it was delicious, but would have been better with 1/4th the salt. I would choose to eat there again, but will request, NO SALT- just salt what I want at the table."

  • "I made a reservation for 6people for May 10th at 7:30 a week in advance. It was for my husband's birthday. We arrived 10 min early because we had two seniors with us that needed extra time to get around. We were greeted by the hostess who told us that our table would be ready at 7:30 as scheduled. At 8:20 we were still waiting with no communication although we have checked back on two occasions to see the progress. When we approached the hostess at 8:20, she said that it would still be another 10-15 minutes. At that point we said that is not acceptable and that we were going to leave and let opentable know how this was handled. There was no comment from the hostess( it seemed like this was not the first time that this has happened). "

  • "We had had one very nice experience at Café Ena. So, we took another couple there Saturday night. We were seated at 7:50, 35 minutes after our 7:15 reservation. The maitre'd offered to take our drink order while we waited. We were repeatedly told it would only be another 5 minutes. Once seated, service was willing but inept. The house was out of two of the listed entrees. Bread came but only after the appetizer was served. One of our guests (his first choice was gone)was served the wrong fish. Whoops! The correct fish appeared. The other's lamb, ordered rare, it was well-done. My favorite line was when we asked for more bread, they said they were out. They offered to bring more chips. Eventually we got more bread. Never again."

  • "Our brunch experience for 5 was overall good but individual results varied. 3 of 5 were completely happy with their order. One person's huevos rancheros arrived cold, and of the 2 people who ordered the steak and eggs, one got a perfect dish with a perfect steak, the other got an overcooked, dry steak that can only be described as cold and flabby. So it's hit or miss, but when it hits, it's delicious."

  • "We made a last minute reservation for Mother's Day brunch and were pleased to be treated to such a wonderful and super tasty meal! A few items were already sold out due to the morning rush, but there were plenty of incredible options to choose from. Everything tasted fresh and mingled well on the palate with each other. The drinks were not too sweet and the dishes were well-seasoned and not to salty. The wait staff we completely knowledgeable and pleasant to be with."

The seating area is quite cramped--you will be very close to other tables. Thank goodness the food is inventive and well-prepared--it's the only reason to come here."
