A word from Cafe Ena
Chef/Owner Hector Ruiz welcomes you to Café Ena: A cozy intimate restaurant located in the tangletown neighborhood in south Minneapolis. Chef Ruiz pares his classic French technique and South American palate to present an exciting menu of Latin-Fusion cuisine. Begin your meal with a south american style ceviche, shrimp, fish, scallops and shrimp in a aji sauce. The many entrées include, scallops, halibut, pork tenderloin, Argentinean style steaks finished in a savory chimichurri. The wine list focuses on a wide range of varietals from Central and South America. Weekly Wine Flights are a great opportunity to sample the many styles offered on the list. If wine is not your thing, perhaps you would enjoy one of the many cervesas, always served in a frosty mug with a lime. Continued

  • "The guacamole is among the best un the Twin Cities. All four dishes ordered in our party exceeded expectations. Lots of Gluten free options on the menu for the person in our party who needs that. Will be back yet again. "

  • "After eating at Cafe Ena too often, we took a break. Six months later, we took out of town friends there. They were thrilled, as were we. Superb seafood dishes, good and reasonably priced wines, and terrific, unobtrusive service. The only disappointment was that a couple of the desserts were sold out. Guess we will have to go back."

  • "This is our second time at this restaurant. Food is excellent, service very attentive. It's a winner...one of the best Latin fusion restaurants in the Metro."

  • "I went to Café Ena for my birthday with some friends. We had a fabulous dinner - definitely in the Top 5 of all time. Everything was fantastic from service to food and wine. I will be back and I'm already telling people about it."

  • "Cafe Ena is fabulous! The food is always outstanding, the guacamole is the best in town. Service is always good. Try this restaurant out, you will not be sorry!"

  • "Dinner at Cafe Ena this past weekend was fantastic. It is apparent that many other people also know what a great place this is. The place was packed. Our server was always there when we needed him but not when we didn't and the food was extremely good. The special of the night was an old favorite bouillabaisse with a saffron stock and lots of seafood and veggies, it was wonderful."

  • "My wife and I went to Cafe Ena not quite sure what to expect. We grew up in Florida and had great exposure to Cuban and South American food. The food was out of this world and the portions left both of us very full. It is an amazing restaurant and will definitely go there again. The guacamole was the freshest we have experienced."

  • "The food was great and so was the service. We were there on a weekday for lunch, so the restaurant was quiet. All 3 of us enjoyed the food. The french toast with mango was the best. I will go back."

  • "The food was out of the world! I can't wait to go there again. The ambience was very pleasant and the 4 of us enjoyed ourselves. It was my birthday dinner; and even tho they got very busy as we were finishing our dinner; it was lovely."

  • "We had a wonderful birthday dinner for my husband at Café Ena. Guacamole was the best ever! Camaron Caribe was to die for!!! Our entrees were perfectly prepared. I had the scallops and my husband had the salmon. The sauces were delicious. Of course we had to have dessert. My husband's molten cake was heavenly. I had the churros which were the best I have ever eaten. Our waiter was very good and gave us good descriptions of what we were ordering. He was attentive but not pushy. We definitely would recommend this place and also plan to return soon to try other things on the menu. We were there on a Tuesday evening so it was quiet. I also want to return for lunch as they have several items different from their dinner menu."

  • "The Salmon over a bed of lobster and crab ravioli was absolutely scrumptious, and the portion was generous! My daughter and I enjoyed the sangria (want the recipe!), and the chocolate lava cake brought out for her birthday was to die for! Thank you for a wonderful meal - we will definitely come back!"

  • "We've always enjoyed Cafe Ena. It's been a common stop for our out of town guests when coming into the city of a dinner of conversation and catchup. On this particular night……one would think they had to go and kill the cow or drag the fish from the sea with the long delivery of the main course. After multiple orders of drinks and polite nibbling of chips…..for over an hour and 20 mins…..our food arrived. It was very good."

  • "We went here for my husband's birthday. It was our first time visiting, and we'll definitely be back. The food was incredible. The service was outstanding. The atmosphere was cozy, warm, inviting. It was easily one of the best dining experiences I've had."

  • "We have travelled to Latin America several times. The food at Cafe Ena captures the most interesting dishes but at a much higher quality than we experienced there."

  • "It had been a little over a year since I returned to Cafe Ena and this recent visit reminds me to not wait that long ever again. The guacamole was beautifully presented but more importantly, delightfully delicious; Ordering the Sangria by the carafe was a wise choice because as we all know, Sangria tastes better you fish out the little wine soaked pieces of fruit. It's my birthday next month and Cafe Ena is where I'll celebrate my b-day dinner...and oh yeah, the month after that is Mother's Day so I'll plan for that. Here's another wise choice, we will have a Father's Day celebration there too. All caught up for now-I will never wait that long EVER again. Thanks for a great dining experience."

  • "Underwhelmed. Our appetizer (stuffed poblano) and main courses (grouper and beef medallions) were served lukewarm. Nothing about our $23 entrees was innovative. Needless to say, we were not blown away by this meal. Our server did not check back until we were nearly finished, so any fixes would have come far too late. We have eaten at Cafe Ena one other time for restaurant week and it was much better then. I hope this was just an off night, but even on an off night you'd hope at least one course was worth it. Cheesecake was not firm and had too many fermented fruit flavors for one dish."

  • "I love Café Ena's menu, food & service but even if you have reservations you're still going to wait. After being seated at a small table near the bar a few minutes later the host apologized for wanting to squeeze in another small table for a 6 person group. It feels like we're dinning with a group of 10 now, 6 on the left, 2 on our right & us in the middle. We really got to know the 2 next to us especially when they accepted our order of guac...really!? What's ironic is they were not charged for guac even tho they knew they didn't order guac! Of course we're charged & waited more for that special guacamole, it is good tho! I love their food, its close to home but I'm tired of making reservations for 2 & being shoehorned into tight spaces."

  • "I have wanted to try this place since I heard of their AMAZING guacamole! I'll keep this short, it was AMAZING, ceviche was delectable as were our main courses! Marcelo was our server and he was WONDERFUL! He told us about the specials (of which we ordered) and kept refilling our beers! He was a gem! Café ena was loud but romantic and a comfortable place to dine! Will be going back"

  • "Spent a weekend in Minneapolis for my brother's Birthday. Found this place through OT and took my brother and his family. Absolutely a great little neighborhood place. The staff was friendly and knowledgable. We were seated immediatly and the food was excellent. The guacamole appetizer was very good and different from traditional presentations. Two of us had the Bife de Chorizo which was as outstanding as some,of the other reviews state and two,of us had the Pork Tenderloin which was so good I wished I had ordered it. The 5th in our party had the Vegan plate and raved about it. Great neighborhood gem. Will go back the next time I'm in town!"

  • "My wife & I have eaten here 5 or more times over the past few years. The experience is always notable, it can even make up for uninteresting dinner partners. Saturday I took my wife here for her birthday. She could not be happier and the same goes for me. The food was outstanding, no exceptions. The service was very good and the attitude by everyone was positive and encouraging. If you are looking for interesting dishes, prepared to the highest standard you owe yourself a trip to Cafe Ena."

  • "We enjoyed quality ingredients and creative presentation. Empandas are deep fried, not too oily with savory seafood mix and aji aoli deep. Lamb was tender on risotto variation. Sea bass was excellent. Churros are enough for three! and dipped in quality chocolate. Only challenge was parking, and seating is very tight for two. Groups of four or move have more options. Nice job. We'll be back. Service was very good!"

  • "Made reservations for a special night out with another couple for 7pm at Cafe Ena this past Saturday. We arrived at 650 to see a very busy and full restaurant. We also were waiting at 745pm for our table as others came in and were seated ahead of us. Not sure what was going on, They didn't offer us anything, not even a glass of wine while we waited well beyond what would be deemed normal or considerate. Table had mixed reviews on the food. Service was ultra slow, but friendly. I wish this place would have been better. Will not return."

  • "This was our first experience dining at Cafe Ena and it was a nice evening except for getting seated at a table. Even with a reservation we had to wait almost 45 minutes for a table. The staff was aware of the problem and tried to keep us and the other groups relaxed while waiting to be seated. Perhaps the wait would not have seemed to long if we had not been told it would be a 5-10 minute wait when we first arrived. I would recommend avoiding peak hours (we were there on Saturday) as the food and service were great."

  • "We were delighted with the food quality, quantity, presentation, and savored the aromas and scrumptious flavors. The Grouper, Salmon, Sea Bass, Rack of Lamb, Pork tenderloin entrees were our selections. 4 of 6 guests were tempted to lick the remnants from the plates with nary a crumb left visible. 2 less hearty eaters elected a togo box. Wine list carried the Latin theme, our foray into the Malbec was a plus. The ambiance was lively and energetic, not loud, but not easy to hear to the other end of the table. We will definitely return and recommend Café Ena."

  • "we recently celebrated 2 birthdays at cafe Ena, during a snowstorm. Had a great time and everything everyone ordered was fabulous. The flan at the end of the meal was amazingly thick and creamy. divine and I'm not even a dessert person."

  • "It's a real treat to have this gem so near home. The guacamole is amazing - every time. The grass fed beef melts in your mouth and my mother is a fan of their scallops. On this visit, two of the filets ordered med rare were closer to medium but still very tasty, one was medium well and had to be sent back. The waiter was wonderful and a properly cooked steak arrived in short order. The wine list is short but good selections, our bottle was perfect. Don't forget dessert, the cheesecake with apples and pomegranate is worth the splurge and was enough to share."

  • "Had their guacamole, beet salad, and salmon dish. All fantastic."

  • "The food was excellent, we opted for the sea bass and filet specials and these were perfectly done. Service was very good. However, while not the fault of the restaurant (I guess) the lack of furnace heat was not conducive to an outstanding dining experience. We sat in a corner booth surrounded by windows with huge drapes pulled and we were still quite uncomfortable. My take is the Cafe could have offered a bit of restitution like dessert on the house or a modest discount, but they did not. Also the current layout packs in too many people. While being in a booth is okay, people at small tables are virtually elbow to elbow. This hinders one's ability to have anything resembling an intimate conversation."

  • "If you like Rincon 38, you'll love Cafe Ena, as they have the same owners and are in the same neighborhood. I would describe Cafe Ena as romantic-casual - nothing stuffy at all! Great food & service. Loved the guacamole for a starter. At our table, we order one sea bass dish, two grouper and the lamb and everyone was very pleased with their meal - great presentation of food. And the sorbet and chocolate cake were amazing! The only negative is that it was freezing cold outside and the restaurant was chilly. I'm sure when we get out of the double-digits below zero, this won't be an issue. Highly recommended!"

  • "The flavors of the food were outstanding, from the salad to the entree to the dessert. We split some parts of the meal and the portions are really too small to warrant splitting. But, it's rather expensive otherwise. I would save it for special occasions. Also, it was freezing on the window side. We mentioned that and they said they were turning up the heat, but it was still cold and drafty there."

  • "Cafe Ena continues to please us. My wife and I have always had great dining experiences there. The chef specials always seem to hit the mark. Only down side is it's always cold inside the restaurant, so wear a sweater. If you love latin food with an american twist this is a must to try."

  • "I love this place! The food never fails and it has such a quaint vibe. The guacamole is the best in town. The desserts are the right size. Nothing better than half price bottles of wine on Monday nights--it is just one of my favorites."

  • "My girlfriend and i discovered Cafe Ena a while back and wanted a romantic dinner for Valentines day. So we returned and were not disappointed. Great food great wine."

  • "Our first time at Cafe Ena and it was very crowded. I felt like they squeezed in 10 additional tables for V-Day - hopefully this is not normal. We were shoulder to shoulder with a couple on one side and next to the isle walkway on the other (very tight moving quarters for staff and customers to get through). It was not private in the least which detracted from the romanticism of the evening. The service was very good. Our filet was overcooked which the manager took back right away and replaced no questions asked. The food was good at best - shrimp bisque soup lacked flavor - did not finish. Sea bass was good by itself but didn't pair well with brussel sprouts. The second steak was good. IF I go back, it will be on a week night."

  • "The service, food, and ambience were all perfect! Especially on a busy night. The wait staff were efficient, courteous, and very helpful. I would recommend this to anyone with an adventurous sense of dining out. Their fusion of South American and French cuisine in lovely."

  • "We went the day after Valentines Day, and because the day before was Valentines day the whole menu was full of amazing specials. The sea bass wrapped in prosciutto was amazing atop a parsnip puree, and outlined by a saffron sauce, and was beautifully presented. The ceviche, was the best I've ever had. The only disappointment for the evening was our server. During our appetizer he tried to rush us with our dinner choices, when we said we weren't quite ready, he was a bit dismissive from then on he would not look at us and looked across the room when talking to us, to hurry us along. That was the only unfortunate experience for an otherwise delight and delicious meal. I would go there again, but would request a different server."

  • "The food was excellent! The only drawback was that we felt like we were dining with the couples on either side of us as well since the tables were so close together! A bummer on Valentine's Day…."
