A word from Cafe Ena
Chef/Owner Hector Ruiz welcomes you to Café Ena: A cozy intimate restaurant located in the tangletown neighborhood in south Minneapolis. Chef Ruiz pares his classic French technique and South American palate to present an exciting menu of Latin-Fusion cuisine. Begin your meal with a south american style ceviche, shrimp, fish, scallops and shrimp in a aji sauce. The many entrées include, scallops, halibut, pork tenderloin, Argentinean style steaks finished in a savory chimichurri. The wine list focuses on a wide range of varietals from Central and South America. Weekly Wine Flights are a great opportunity to sample the many styles offered on the list. If wine is not your thing, perhaps you would enjoy one of the many cervesas, always served in a frosty mug with a lime. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Food was great, good favor (steak / scallops) and just right portions. Service was well timed and not rushed. Patio dining can get very noisy with the traffic and plane noise. Would go back but do indoor dinning."

  • "Our dinner was received one hour after we placed the order. Of the two dinners both were poor. Beef medallions were rubbery and required a great deal of chewing. The pork was tasteless. The menu is highly pretentious. The service was very poor and I believe there was no chef on staff on the Friday when we were there. Based on the service and food pricing for Minneapolis was horrible. Nick"

  • "It was my second visit and we brought relatives from out of town with us. Beautiful night for indoor or outdoor seating. While there weren't many servers, (Monday night), they were attentive and gracious. The guacamole lives up to its reputation as the best in the Twin Cities! Our entrees included halibut, red snapper and pork tenderloin--rave reviews on all. Luscious sides accompany such careful presentations. Half price wine on many bottles, so what's not to like?"

  • "Great experience, we brought our friends from out of town and we all loved it!. Maybe you can do something about the noise. Maybe some fabric on the walls."

  • "We decided to eat outside this time. It was very noisy and a large dog was with their owner at the next table. We would have preferred that the dog be left elsewhere but it was somewhat understandable, since it was outdoors. We will n=be inside next time. The food was excellent and very well priced!"

  • "Fortunately we were with good friends and had lots to talk about because our dinner, on a Wednesday night, was very slow to arrive. But when it did, wow! All four of us raved about our entrees, grouper, sea bass and the special salmon. No one offered to share! The guacamole appetizer that had been recommended by a friend was also divine, but also very slow arriving. The sidewalk tables were full but inside there were few diners so we could never figure out why the kitchen was so slow. Tried a new-to-me Bonny Doon amarenos (sp?) wine that was also excellent. We will definitely go back and give the service another try, but sit inside as the airplane noise was quite disruptive."

  • "Saturday's dinner featuring Sea Bass and risotto was superb! My in-laws loved the place, the wine, the food and the churros with coffee for dessert. Thank you Jaime for keeping us all happy!"

  • "Amazing! (I hate that I have to write more. I think this one word sums up our experience and the food.)"

  • "I dine at Cafe Ena three to four times a year. The menu has a broad range of dishes, and I have enjoyed everything I have tried. The specials have also been a great. The guacamole appetizer is the best I have ever tasted. I recently brought associates from the UK and eastern Europe for dinner. They both had several compliments."

  • "For a restaurant that doesn't serve organic food, i'm not sure exactly how they justify some of the pricing on the food. Probably what's most disappointing is that it costs a lot of money for a Latin@ to even afford food from their own cuisine."
    Dined on 7/27/2014
  • "We've dined many times at Ena, but seldom for lunch. I was reminded recently of its virtues as a lunch spot: The menu is diverse (various meats, fish and fowl, usually prepared using various Latin American seasonings; The service is prompt and friendly; The atmosphere is pleasant (outdoor dining, too, albeit on a fairly busy street); And prices are very reasonable. That's four good reasons for going there!"

  • "We have eaten at Cafe Ena many times and the food and service is always great. This last time our service was poor. Our server was slow and ordered us the wrong items and we needed to wait around 20 mn. extra for her to correct the order. Also a steak was ordered med. rare and was at best med. Our fish sercial was great."

  • "We hadn't been to Ena for a few years, and returned recently with out of town guests. The decor and furnishings were nicer than we remembered them, giving it a very nice ambience. Not sure if it is really different or just better than our memories of before. But really, the food is the star. We had the guacamole to start, and then our entrees covered the prawns, chicken, sea bass, and beef medallions. Everybody was in the clean plate club, and every dish was excellent."

  • "Latin fusion menu with creative surprising combinations. More than delicious!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Cafe Ena on a Friday evening and had a wonderful experience. We sat outside on the patio which was nice but somewhat noisy with street traffic. They have nice flowering hanging baskets all around to make it feel private. We were greeted immediately by our server and ordered their signature guacamole (yum!) and drinks. Then we ordered two entrees, the halibut for me and steak medallions for my husband. Both were nicely presented, good portioned, and absolutely flavorful and delish!! It was our second time to Ena, and it certainly will not be the last!! Well done!!"

  • "If you like Chipotle's guacamole, you will LOVE Cafe Ena's guacamole even more. It is full of chunks of ripe avocado, tomatoes and cilantro. It is the best guacamole I have ever had in Minnesota. There is so much guacamole that there needs to be more chips. Everything was delicious!"

  • "The food was excellent! All four of us tried something different and we all really enjoyed our meals. Only one waiter was on staff, so it was not a quick lunch- but not too long if a wait. I will definately go back- and do not miss the guacamole !"

  • "Our second dinner at Cafe Ena was even more wonderful than our first.....excellent, excellent food...Beautiful presentation and delicious flavors...."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The appetizers were delicious: we had guacamole, shrimp, and Campesino (tomato salad). The home-made juice we had (Horchata) was delicious - although the drinks are all served in too-small glasses. For dinner we ordered 2 Argentine steak, 2 scallops. The scallops were delicious, done perfectly, the polenta that shared the plate was boring with not much flavor/overcooked. I'd asked when I ordered if the chef could make it spicy, and it came out with a side of hot sauce. Not what I envisioned. The Argentine beef was done just as ordered, and the flavors complemented each other well. Not too much food, nice ambiance, nice location (expect hard to find parking)."

  • "The food at Café Ena was really good. The ceviche was tasty, though definitely not as flavorful as some. It's probably perfect for Minnesota diners. The grouper and the flounder entrees were both really delicious -- cooked perfectly and not overwhelmed with heavy sauces or too many ingredients. Fresh vegetables complemented the fish rather than just sitting next to it. Service was friendly and helpful, but it took quite a long time to get both our appetizer and main courses. It would have been more of an issue had I been there with someone with less patience, but I was catching up with a dear friend after a couple of years. I will definitely give it another try -- perhaps they were just short a server that night."

  • "We met 2 guests for dinner who had already been seated enjoying drinks. It took about 10 minutes for our waiter to greet us and bring water. We started with a corn meal-crusted calamari appetizer to share (my wife is gluten free). Coating was nearly non-existent and not crunchy but calamari was fresh and cooked perfectly; served with a side of "just OK" spicy dressing. Portion size was small for $11. $9 salads were quite large however and good for sharing. Great variety of fresh seafood dishes. Had broiled snapper with spinach artichoke risotto on mango port wine reduction sauce. Very good but mostly under seasoned for Latin fusion. Steak ordered med. rare but arrived med. Prices are high for dinner portion sizes-Groupon made it worthwhile!"

  • "I went there for my birthday and the staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is great. The restaurant is a good size and not too loud. It is decorated in a Latin/Spanish style and the sangria was good. We were so full that the waiter gave us my birthday dessert to go."

  • "It can be so hard to find restaurants that offer creative, well prepared options that are also appropriate for those of us trying to lose a few pounds. Ena is one of those that does"

  • "I took my parents in town for a weekend on Friday night. It was a great spot to sit outside for a few bottles of wine and some great food -fresh ingredients, interesting combinations and high quality dishes. I can rely on excellent food in a relaxed yet polished atmosphere. The guacamole is not to be missed!"

  • "I definitely recommend going to Cafe Ena. Everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. Sharing entrées is the way to go, then you can try a little of everything. My only suggestion is try to make a reservation for Friday/Saturday nights, as tables filled up fast."

  • "The Fish is consistently perfectly prepared with an outstanding blend of flavors. The guacamole is the best I have ever had. I will continue to dine there time and time again........can't wait to go again. Many people loved the outdoor dining which has comfortable tables with umbrellas, but I usually prefer the quiet and ambiance of the dining room."

  • "We went once on a whim and were impressed. Went back for lunch and we were disappointed. Third time was amazing. We started with empanadas. They were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, tasty meat (and seafood options) with an inventive sauce. For an entree, I had fish, with vegetables and a light cream sauce. Ordinarily, I think "light" cream is anything but light, but this was in fact light. The sangria was excellent. Tasty and with just enough alcohol to feel it, but not overwhelmingly the other flavors. We ate outside, which was very pleasant at least until everyone else left and the mosquitos discovered us."

  • "Our group of 3 former Harriet Avenue neighbors and friends met at Café Ena after a 20-year lapse in seeing each other. We extended our dinner and wine experience to nearly 4 hours. The staff was perfect in providing just the right level of attention and yet accommodating our long post-dinner conversation until we finally noticed that we were the only remaining table in the place. The wine list is wonderful. And, of course, the food is always incredibly tasty--and different."

  • "Beautiful food, perfectly prepared and delivered by attentive, knowledgable servers. Everything shows this establishment goes the extra step to make this a great dining experience. And if you think guacamole is old hat, try Cafe Ena's version!"

  • "We particularly enjoyed the appetizers - lots of incorporation of tropical flavours and delightful presentation - the guacomole was presented in a tower, and interestingly was a sans garlic interpretation. I liked that the menu was so different from what you find in your typical Mexican place. Lots of South American representation. Menu could be enhanced by some contributions from Brazil - after all, Brazil represents a little under half of Latin America.. Also, healthy eaters might have a bit of trouble with the entree menu - Cuban sandwiches are enormous and bready, entrees are pretty much all quite heavy. I only ate half my plate, although I enjoyed it."
