Diner Reviews
  • "#1 late Saturday night ( liked that it was still open) . I ordered the filet. It came overlooked and on a plate with a hunk of mashed potatoes and a small bunch of green beans. It looked like a Luanne platter from the old Lubys ( minus the roll). The server was nice but inexperienced. #2 early Sunday evening. Sat in the bar and had a great drink and the Voodoo salmon which has always been a favorite and was excellent. Service great. #3 early on a Tuesday evening. I had the snapper which was perfectly cooked on a bed of saffron linguine and garnished with avocado slices. It was a beautiful presentation and was delicious. Our waiter was overwhelmed as he kept getting busier. We waited a LONG time to get our credit cards back after paying"

  • "I thought the drink menu was good, but the prices are higher than they should be and don't match the prices of the food. I paid $10 for a martini that didn't even make it to my table until I was halfway through dinner (I ordered it first). When it arrived, there were 2 HUGE olives stuffed with Bleu cheese (delish), but the glass was barely half full. If you took out the olives, it was about a 1/3 of the way full. That was disappointing, especially after I saw the price. I wouldn't go there for beverages, but dinner was amazing and affordable and dessert cannot be beat!"

  • "This was our first experience and perhaps we were expecting to much. Based on what we saw, it's a pizza and burger place, much like a sports bar. We'd do it again if we were looking for that experience."

  • "We always enjoy Cafe Excel, especially the chopped salad, bbq chicken pizza and strawberry tart. Unfortunately, for all of us who love Cafe Excel, they are being forced to move in March. We have been told they will reopen at a new location in the fall. We sincerely hope this is true!"

  • "Loved the wine list. The food was very appetizing. Was kind of disappointed that since I had been there last, lots of pasta taken off the menu. However, not a deal breaker. Neighborhood gem! Waitservice was great."

  • "Restaurant could have been more "kid-friendly." They did not offer that the sauce on the pasta and meatballs that we said was going to be shared with a 3 year old was spicy. We did not ask, but we did not expect that such a dish would be as spicy as it was. They also charged for a refill on the child's milk, which he needed in order to eat any of the spicy pasta. They also charged for a substitution of a salad dressing...not an addition, a substitution. Again, there was no statement by the waitress that a substitution would incur an extra charge...this was removed when we complained."

  • "I would gladly walk from Northgate pay parking, as would everyone else I've talked to. Please stay in business at your present location. Fingers crossed!"

  • "My husband made reservations for our family of 4 for my birthday last week. The Appetizer was not as good as it has been before. We ordered the Mediterranean plate. I ordered the Seafood linguine and it had no flavor so I had to ask for salt (which was not on any of the tables). My husband had the prime rib and it didn't taste like anything either. My son had the Gyro which had way too much Tzaziki (sp?) in it and he had to take it off since it had way too many onions on it. The desserts were good as usual. I've been coming to Cafe Eccell since before we had children and i have to say it's just not as good as it used to be."

  • "We opend with this Ahi Tuna Nachos. An awesome blend of flavors. We followed with the best custom pizza ever. We like a bit of everything, so we really went over the top and the kitchen came through for us !!"

  • "Our waiter was outstanding and knew his wine ! Everything from our appetiters to the 6oz. tenderloin was out of this world! I can't remember the last time i had such a good meal !r"

  • "I've always loved the good and atmosphere at Cafe Eccell. Fine dining for special occasion or a special lunch that is reasonably priced. However, with as nice as the menu and desserts are that are offered, I'm so disappointed that they do not offer lattes, cappuccinos, etc. Just seems odd to me that this isn't offered to go with those popular desserts! When we asked if they had any out waiter said no and didn't even offer plain coffee or cream. Just apologized and brought our check. However, any restaurant that would be a competitor to this one in town-- Maddens, Christopher's, La Riviara, etc offer nice cappuccinos, lattes etc. or at the least a really nice coffee and cream as a finish to a nice meal!"

  • "Food was good, the room we were in was noisy and the lighting was so bright for an evening dinner. The waiter was new, too new to be taking on a big table alone. So our food and drinks were late coming out."

  • "My boyfriend took me to Cafe Excell for my birthday. They set the table especially for us and out waiter Tanner was superb and very knowledgable! Great birthday!"

  • "Our table was ready promptly at 7pm on a busy post-game night in Aggieland. We had excellent service with good wine recommendations. The Greek salads and pizzas hit the spot. We always try to find time to hit Cafe Eccell when in College Station if time allows."

  • "great variety of menu items, pizza, seafood & sandwiches. if you are looking to get out of the patio college bar scene after the game or just have a nice meal in college station them this is the place."

  • "Our first visit -can;t believe we waited so long to try this place out. We will definitely be back. Try the strawberry tart - it's the best dessert I have had in College Station! I had barbeque chicken with veggies, hubby had Prime Rib eye steak. Both were perfect!"

  • "Our waitress was wonderful and the ambience was nice. I had the tilapia which was dry. It was served with "roasted vegetables" which was a few pieces of squash and a lot of onions. However, the charge for the fish was removed from our tab, which we appreciated."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a bed and breakfast in the area and had many good reviews. We were pleasantly surprised to find a place serving good to excellent quality food not geared to the standard college student's menu. The Mediterranean appetizer was delicious, especially the tzadziki. Our son really wanted fish, which he says is not available anywhere on campus. He loved the salmon entrée. Our pizza was very good although we couldn't find any sausage on it and the crust was a little too soft in the center. Prices were higher than other restaurants but comparable to the difference in food quality. The atmosphere was a bit dark and dreary which made it a challenge to read the menu. No problems with the table service."

  • "Food and charm lived up to our memories from our younger days as struggling undergrads. Great ambience and energy. Our waiter was apathetic and often distracted when dealing with us but it did not detract from dinner as a whole to any great degree. All in our group of four were ultimately satisfied."

  • "Visiting for Parent Welcome Weekend and dined at Eccell. We enjoyed ourselves and our meal.. it was nice to see others/assist manager help out the wait staff with drink refills."

  • "I loved the convenience of making our reservation on-line. Our table was ready when we walked in the door 5 minutes before our reservation time. The server was friendly, efficient and checked on us just enough to let us know he was aware, but not so much as to be intrusive. I had the Sea Bass which was perfectly cooked and season, another dinner chose the Snapper and was delighted, another had the gourmet grill cheese and tomato basil soup, and another had the Penne Pasta with Chicken with Rosemary Cream Sauce. I must admit I enjoyed a fair amount of the Penne Pasta with Chicken dish, on the ruse that I was trying to figure out the sauce. The Strawberry Tarts were incredible. We can't wait for our next visit!"

  • "Delicious food, especially from the dessert menu. I definitely recommend Café Eccell to anyone stopping in College Station. Only downside was how dimly lit the restaurant was."

  • "The chocolate strawberry tart was the best dessert I have ever had. That's no exaggeration. Everything about it was great. The shell was crunchy and melted in my mouth, the strawberries were fresh and sweet, and the chocolate was smooth and tasty."

  • "The tacos were very good. The service was incredibly slow. Went on a Monday evening and it was not crowded but everything took longer than expected. I'd go back for the food in hopes that it was an off night for the service. One other note, it took them well over 30 minutes to clean the table next to us. They just left everything on it."

  • "It had been years since I had eaten here. We went back to College Station to drop off our son at a summer camp and stopped here for lunch. The food as very mediocre and highly priced. The service was pretty good but not enough to compensate for the food. We were very disappointed and won't be going back or recommending it to friends."

  • "I had not been back for 15 years- it was as spectacular as I remembered. I took my family and they thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience."

  • "The restaurant is not a good place to hold conversation; very noisy."

  • "My fiancée and i took another couple there Saturday night...The pizza is a must. The street tacos are also great. Our waiter was seldom handy and was arrogant and spoke to us like we'd never been in restaurant before. It was insulting."

  • "Food was great and service was awesome. Nothing major, but the ambience on the pics on the website are better than the actual restaurant. A little disappointment. We were there for my son's high school graduation. Everyone enjoyed the food and coffee was amazing."

  • "Fantastic food & service. This was our 2nd time here. We have been really pleased with everything we have ordered. We ordered the portabella mushroom appetizer, the seafood linguine, the tuna entree, and for dessert, the chocolate strawberry tart. It was all delicious, well prepared, and beautifully presented, but the dessert is probably the best we have had in College Station. We can't wait to go back."

  • "Spectacular restaurant that has been a personal and family favorite for years. The menu changes are always welcome surprises, but the quality and taste of the entrees and appetizers never changes. Love this place!"

  • "The ahi tuna nachos were very good, with a delicious, combination of poppy seed seared tuna • mango guacamole • cilantro salad in sambal honey • wasabi aioli • soy-lime syrup • mixed nuts. However, I was puzzled to find that a sharing plate for two contained an odd number of nachos! 2.5 each seemed a bit mean for the price. The pizza was excellent with a crisp crust and fresh, tasty ingredients. The chocolate dessert with crisp almond pastry, chocolate ganache and strawberries was creamy and a very good sharing size. So very good food. Friendly service too. Small complaints are a) the lighting, which was so low we could only read the menu and the bill with the aid of a phone torch and b) the two attempts to get the bill right."

  • "Had reservation for 8 and 10 showed up. Quickly accommodated our party without fuss. Asked if we were eligible for state tax exclusion, which we are. Polite and attentive service from start to finish. Good food, prepared and served well."

  • "Wonderful food...BEST steak I have ever had! Do NOT go on graduation, football game, etc because they don't accomadate to large crowds. I made a reservation a month before graduation weekend and when we got there they put us at a table in the middle of a major walk way. They said they had over booked. Service was horrible and we were there for much longer than needed."
