we were celebrating my friend's visit to Chicago and also her engagement. I let them know in advance that she got engaged recently, and they came out with all these cute appetizers on a lovely plate. The presentation was just delicate and gorgeous. After we finished our entree, they came out with special desserts with her name written! Foods were great, the desserts were divine, and the service was just excellent! My friend and her fiance thanked me million times that night and she said the dinner was the highlight of her trip to Chicago! I really want to have my engagement party there someday... very special moments we had there...

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

We booked on the basis of a review on your site. Unfortunately the meal experience did not live up to the review in any way. To summarise... The menu content was limited with a lot of repetition of certain items eg: mushrooms. The cooking element of the menu was poorly executed with one main course of fish served uncooked. Sauces were glutenous and bland. Service was reasonable but never quite lived up to what was expected. Interestingly, when we expressed our dissapointment we were advised that the Head Chef had in fact, left some time ago though the restaurant and your review site still had him in place as the resident chef..Infomation obviously not up to date ..Very wrong! Overall a thoroughly dissapointing unmemorable meal.

An outstanding restaurant; in most cities this would be the best chef & best restaurant in town! Genuinely charming service from the maitre'd, waiter, servers & busboy. We had the fixe prix dinner; it was just fabulous & a huge bargain at $40.00 per person. Truely outstanding service! With so many restaurants in Chicago to choose from we like to try new ones on each visit, and we usually avoid hotel restaurants. However, we'll return to Cafe des Architectes.

I am on a gluten free, dairy free diet, and had made that clear on my opentable reservation. When I got to the restaurant, no one made a mention of it, though. I had to bring it up. One of the menu items was modified to accommodate my restrictions, but it would have been nice not to have to say anything.

Even though I had entered a special note in you indicated section, it was quite clear the maitre d' had no idea we were celebrating my friend's birthday. He noticed the birthday cards on the table however, and quickly redeemed himself by delivering a special dessert to the table. It was much appreciated but made me realize I should communicate directly with the restaurant about special events.

my boyfriend and I selected this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. My boyfriend is a fan of French food and he was impressed and pleased. Our wine was excellent as well and I must say $40 for our 3 course fixed menu was extremely reasonable and the quality of the food was wonderful. I think on a beautiful summer day, the windows would suit people watchers. I would definitely recommend.

  • Sleek, bold restaurant space

Sleek, bold restaurant space in red, black, white and creams right out of Architectural Digest! Located in the Sofitel hotel in the Gold Coast about five minutes from North Michigan; a good choice for a more civilized lunch break during shopping in the area. Attentive and friendly staff. Excellent breads and rolls come with butter and an intense tapenade. The food is definitely well prepared but not all dishes hit the mark: my pasta dish was on the bland side and wanting for a little more sauce. For lunch there is a 4 little dishes pre fixe for $20 which I would do the next time around.

My mom, sister and I all went here for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day early. This was probably one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. The restaurant was gorgeous and the service was unobstrusive, yet spectacular. Equally notable is the hotel this street level restaurant is housed in -- it's absolutely beautiful (Hotel Sofitel. AND THE FOOD!!!! The food was absolutely out of this world as well as beautifully presented. I would not only go back here, but plan on recommending it to everyone I know. It made our "girls weekend" all that much more successful!

We had lunch with 4 adults and 1 child. The staff was extremely accommodating and went out of their way to make the experience a lovely one. We had a 2-1/2 hour lunch (the restaurant wasn't crowded) and never felt hurried. The selection of rolls is very good and better than most restaurants offer. We also liked the French-press coffee which somehow stayed warm although we took our time in drinking it. This is the best place for a beautiful, delicious, conversation-friendly meal.

Very good surprise. We took the $40 menu which consists of one appetizer, one entree and one dessert. Not expansive compared with similar restaurants and taking into account the quality of food. Both Chef and Sous-Chef are French, which you can see when you eat. Nice presentation, portions are not too big, though you feel food after dinner. Deserts were great! Good wine list. Much cheaper than other more famous tables in Chicago but very good level quality/price.

I was initially worried about being inside a hotel, but this ended up not being an issue at all. The atmosphere was wonderfully romantic, and the harp was an excellent touch. I did not like the food, but I am extremely picky, probably excessively so. My girlfriend on the other hand, loved the food and enjoyed the champagne. We both agreed that the desserts were amazing.
