  • "I needed a special restaurant for my sister's birthday and Cafe Des Architectes met all of my expectations and more. The dining room is fairly small but stunningly beautiful modern, but the food and service were the stars. I eat out in Chicago and the western suburbs several times each week and travel overseas regularly, but cannot remember a meal that I loved as much as dinner at CDA. Our French waiter was perfect -- great recommendations, charming but not intrusive. He sang Happy Birhday in French and returned during coffee to sing "Le Vie En Rose" and made it quite a special evening. The Chocolate Ribbon dessert was unbelievable and, for the quality, I found all f the food and wine quite reasonably priced. I can't wait to return."

  • "Altho the food on the plates were, at best luke warm,….the scallop entre was actually so cold it was sent back, only to take 20 min. to be returned, so the rest of us were virtually finished with dinner when it was….everyone was pleased with the flavors & combinations. My charcuterie platter was almost a meal, especially since they were so generous with the bread, the salads were excellent. service was sluggish. One of us just wanted the ice cream without the pastry, but he waited 15 min. to get it. I was a little puzzled that the reminder caller questioned whether we would be ordering off the fixed price or a la cart menu….I wondered, how was I to know how the other diner' s wishes???"

  • "So I treated two guests to the ten course tasting menu (plus seven wine pairings). I was a little reluctant b/c of some reviews I had seen but the meal was terrific, from the opening amuse bouche (chestnut soup) to the fantastic final dessert. The wine pairings were terrific and were served by a knowledgable waiter. While the chef did not appear personally to speak to us (as I understand sometimes happens per other reviews), I wasn't trouble by that at all. FYI there was a terrific scallops course, duck, a cheese course, a fall salad, etc. This was very well done and I would recommend it to others."

  • "There were three generations gathered for a small birthday dinner for my mother's 70th birthday. There is a kids menu contained the typical items. Our kids chose chicken fingers and I must admit the adults were stealing fries off their plates...delicious. For the adults there was a wonderful selection. Everybody was happy with their starters (oysters, beet salad, a veloute, and sashimi). For the main course we had the fish on the de-light menu (fish a little boring, but veggies great), the rabbit (every bite of it amazing), the duck (another rave review). For desert there were too many delicious options to choose from and we ended up splitting 4 different deserts. The chocolate ribbon and the chess pie were everybody's favorites."

  • "If you want a memorable dining experience Cafe Des Architectes is the place for you. It's ambient and beautiful modern interiors are a delight for the senses. Our waiter was cordially attentive but not intrusive. The cuisine is top notch! I went for lunch and had the Bacon Gruyere quiche. Very pretty and sumptuous! Though ample in portion it was light and airy. Moderate in price and situated in the Sofitel Hotel in the heart of the Gold Coast. Bon Appetit!"

  • "Restaurant has a De-Light menu for breakfast lunch AND dinner that is all of the deliciousness with none of the guilt. It's also prixe fixe so it's easy to add up the bill and the calories. I had the duck, salad and rasberry vacherin-439 calories of amazing food for just $39 (plus a glass of wine of course). Outstanding wine list of course-enjoyed an organic grenache from the Vin de Pays de l'Herault region. Staff was so friendly, attentive and charming. Instead of going Friday night for the Valentine's Day thrash, we went the night before so the atmosphere was so much more relaxed. Great place for a romantic date, business lunch or get-together with friends for any meal."

Will definitely eat here again whenever I'm around the area again."

  • "I had the misfortune of visiting this place during restaurant week, which meant I was not able to order from the regular menu. For a Michelin 1-star restaurant, I had hoped for more, particularly in terms of the service - most likely they hired extra personnel for the week, which weren't quite up for the task. That said, it was a fine dining experience, just not what I had expected/hoped for. I'll come back and try it again, just not during restaurant week."

  • "The food and table service at CDA were absolutely outstanding, worth 5 stars but for a couple of missteps. First, only the Restaurant Week menu was available, an option which is normally offered in addition to the regular menu. We were disappointed that the 10-course tasting menu was unavailable since we rarely visit Chicago and were there only for the weekend. The courses were fantastic and probably would have been our favorites anyway, but I feel the limited menu could have been better advertised. CDA also failed to note that we honored our reservation, forcing me to contest it on OpenTable. Not a huge deal. but in many years and dozens of meals I have never had this happen, and wouldn't have expected it at this caliber of restaurant."

  • "The open and airy space of the Cafe produced a relatively quiet atmosphere, to my surprise and relief, since restaurant dining can be laborious when struggling to understand dinner partners. The service was attentive and charming, and the food was great, beginning with an inventive and tantalizing amuse bouche. I can recommend heartily as appetizers the celery root soup and salade lyonnaise, the main dishes of chicken, fish, duck, and rabbit were all superior in quality and beautifully plated. What lovely desserts! Imaginative and delicious. Definitely a place to try again, a lovely evening."

  • "I went with a group of four to treat my mother for her birthday. I want to commend the restaurant on their exceptional service. I booked the restaurant before my mother had foot surgery. We came in and they saw she had a boot and was using a walker and sat us in a very appropriate place that allowed her to put her foot up to keep the swelling down without us asking. The food was outstanding. The servers brought appetizers; however, one in our group was gluten free and they took it back and brought one that didn't contain wheat. The portions are perfect allowing just enough to get a good taste of everything without filling up on one thing. This is a perfect special occasion place and they know how to do everything exceptionally well."

  • "My wife and I each chose the 10-course tasting menu. The chef personally came out and discussed any food preferences we might have. We mentioned that we were fans of foie gras and truffles and he told us that he could accommodate us. He then proceeded to cook for us a sensational meal. What distinguished this tasting menu experience from others was that the chef prepared different dishes for my wife and me in seven out of the ten selections. He checked midway through the meal as to how things were going. His culinary artistry was amazing, the service impeccable in all respects and the ambiance exceptional. Having eaten in many Michelin three-star restaurants in France, I can say without hesitation that we had a three-star meal."

  • "Rather than spending our New Years Eve / wedding anniversary at a party, bar, or club, we celebrated over a delicious 5-course meal, a bottle of red, and cocktails. The food was very good, especially the lobster and beef courses. My only disappointment was the cheese course, as I ordered blue cheese cake, not realizing that it would taste more like Blue Cheese (because that's what it was) than American cheese cake. In any case, I was full enough from the other courses that I didn't mind just having a taste of that one before moving on to the desert course. The price was reasonable for the quality - $110/person for a 5 course meal, though I'm glad we opted for a bottle of wine rather than the $50/person wine pairing. Overall, a great NYE."

  • "Went to CDA with a group of four, and we were all silenced by our appetizers. They were that good. Between us we had the foie, the escargot, the burrata, and the chicken thighs. The foie was just insane; it comes with ice cream and a waffle. The mains were incredible, too. We had duck, scallops, chicken, and the whitefish, and everything was pretty mindblowing. The only quibble I have is with the saltiness of the caviar on top of the scallops. I found it a little overwhelming. Staff were just so lovely, and the desserts were great."

  • "Overall good. Went on Xmas day for dinner. I did not realize the restaurant is located within a hotel. Made it hard to find at first. Additionally there is no obvious hostess stand (hidden to the right), which was confusing. The food was very good. Great desserts! Waitstaff was friendly. Price was reasonable considering it was Xmas. Only draw back was the location & ambiance, though that is subjective."

Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the finer details of the menu, and very confidently assisted with recommendations. When we ordered a drink from the bar that was not listed on the menu, the waiter and bartender made it happen. Came here for a special occasion fixed price dinner and would love to go back to this delightful restaurant in the sleek Sofitel hotel. Expensive, but a very good value. Only downsides: the braised beef rib was delicious but on the salty side, and no one offered to take our coats."

Each dish was creative, inventive, beautifully presented, and most importantly, delicious! The service was phenomenal, and the wine pairings were abundant and perfectly matched each dish. We have had tasting menus at some of the best restaurants in the world and this was definitely one of our favorites. A very fun experience - we'll be back!"

  • "We had 7:15 pm reservations on Thanksgiving. They were 15 minutes late seating us - no big deal. Our server was great but was working with a sub-standard crew. Our order was taken promptly, we received bread about 20 minutes later. We received our first course at 8:35 - an hour and 5 minutes after we sat down. We ordered the traditional Thanksgiving meal - the stuffing was actually burned black on the bottom. They gave us a few glasses of sparkling wine and a third dessert and they had cheese and more sparkling wine to our room which we put back in the hall. The restaurant looks like it is more designed for breakfast, not a warm, comfortable room. We were at the restaurant three more days but never set foot back in the restaurant."

  • "my friend and I were looking for a Chicago foodie experience that wouldn't break the bank...we chose the tasting menu, and it was delightful! I was hesitant, but our waiter allowed a couple of "no way" foods and the chef complied with our preferences. In addition, they created a different item for each of us to try at each course, so in effect we tried double the amount of wonderful foods. Presentation was perfect, and our waiters were very tolerant with our many questions about the unique ingredients. We also paired wines with each course, and again, each was perfect. EXACTLY what I'd hoped it would be like. Be brave, try a chef's tasting at Cafe Des Architectes."
