Cafe Des Amisvery good experience, my onlyvery good experience, my only complaint were that the oysters were not that fresh.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFun, noisy crowdFood was nicely prepared but nothing special. Good wine list, very appropriate for this kind of casual French food. Main attraction is the room and the super-happy, boisterous customers5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMothers Day JemWhile spending the weekend in the city my wife and I were interested in doing some shopping in the Union Street area of San Francisco our last day in the city. We decided to have an early Sunday Brunch on Union while all the stores opened and happened on Cafe Des Amis. Spending our Honeymoon in Paris and being it was our anniversary it seem appropriate. What a stroke of luck. We selected an open air table on the street and had a great brunch, reminisced about our time in Paris. We watch the joggers, dog walker and shoppers going by. Just like we were back in Paris.
And yes, the shopping was just as good. My wife found a leather jacket at Fog City just a block away from the Cafe that she says will alway remind her of a great experience.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn impressive lunchI invited some friends for lunch and they were really impressed with the ambiance, service and food. I haven't been for dinner or Bar Scene but do see they have a Happy Hour so may check it out.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular! This was my second visit to Cafe des Amis and both times I walked away happy. The cocktails are expertly mixed, the staff friendly, the ambiance warm and inviting, and the food scrumptious. Can't ask for more! I'll be back soon!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat French bistroI have been to Cafe Des Amis several times since opening, but this is probably the best experience I have had. Took visiting overseas family to dinner and was very happy with the food and service. We had the oysters and mussels for appetizers. Oysters were extremely fresh and sweet. Mussels in Meniere sauce was cooked perfectly. Beef bougounion was tender and juicy - very nice. Desserts - seven layer cake, profiteroles and caramel pain perdu with extra cream on the side was super delicious! We were seated on the higher level at a oval table which is perfect for a group of 8 people - we could converse and hear each other which is nice for a change in a crowded restaurant. Highly recommended.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVariety...of spaces within the cafe - closer to the bar for happy/rambunctious ambience, along the main rows of tables on the floor for regular lively bistro scene, one of the four more private tables/booths bordering the stairs to the mezzanine (two down and two up), the mezzanine private dining room which most nights is filled with tables for 2-6 and quieter, or sidewalk tables under awning when the weather's good. Make sure get the setting matching your group/mood and you'll have a grand time. A mismatch can lead to a less successful dinner. Food is great - small bistro menu, excellently prepared (courses aren't small, just the selection - updated Americanized version of cafe/bistro food - just not an encyclopedic array).5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCafe des Amis, SF treasure!I keep going back for all occasions from dinner a deux to family gatherings. EVERYTHIMG Is goo dinthe only-the-frenc acan do this way. Latest discovery, mussels with curry! From hamburgers to roast chick to steak frites, this cafe is the BEST!!! I hadThis place was great! I had brunch with a friend who had never been to San Francisco, and she loved it too! The food was great and the service was quick and friendly. I thought brunch was a little overpriced compared to other places on Union St, which is why I gave 4 out of 5 stars.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat French Brasserie onGreat French Brasserie on busy Union Street. We had great service though it was a busy Friday night. Onion soup and frisee salad delicious. The steak and frites was yummy though the steak portion was a tad small. The bread served with the meal is delicious and refilled. We'd return.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a lovely lunch with aHad a lovely lunch with a friend. Nice half bottle of Sancerre and Nicoise and chicken salads were excellent. Rachel our server was knowledgable, friendly and attentive.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA great spot, and upstairsA great spot, and upstairs works perfect with a larger group. 3rd time we've been stuck with a rather pompous waiter, but how do you tell you're waiter to take a hike? And made a mistake where we should have known better, forgot to ask him the price of the special and the wines he was recommending.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! Like being in a bistroSuperb! Like being in a bistro in France............Love the butter lettuce salad with tarragon, would love the recipe for the dressing....awesome.....chilled perfectly..
The service is professional and warm......great attention to detail all during our meal.....the menu is so inviting, we wanted one of everything....but for a table of 3, we had the salad, the onion soup, the steak tartare, the special chicken sandwich, and one had the chef's prix fixe.....we were all thrilled, and topped it off with a lovely desserts....this is a go to place....very affordable, very pleasant, and very satisfying....We will keep coming back....Thanks so much to the Chef and the great staff!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFive visits so far, all greatPerfect in every way except the Cote de Boeuf special. For two diners, one half would be perfect and the other half smaller and overdone. At double the price of the other entrees. All other dishes perfect. Service and ambience are my favorite in the city, both for a romantic occasion and for a group of guys. Do the valet parking.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMReally lovely resturant withReally lovely resturant with amazing food, great waiters and an overall must repeat experience.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was Easter Sunday and theIt was Easter Sunday and the staff was not frenzied or out of sorts. The service was very good as usual. The food preparation was outstanding.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough the noise level andAlthough the noise level and lack of street parking might be a deterrent, this restaurant is truly a must-go-to place for delicious eats! The ambience & decor is fun and energetic. The food, well, is absolutely TO DIE FOR! The service, as well, is truly impeccable! I have dined at this restaurant 4 times already, and I would definitely return!! Next time, I will surely try the brunch menu.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe brunch was great! TheThe brunch was great! The hostess was very friendly as well. We were running a few minutes behind and called to let them know and they held our outdoor table on a very sunny day, which totally made our day. The service outside was a little slow and they happened to be out of a couple things we wanted to order, but that's the first time this has ever happened here so I'll be back.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMmy new favoriteLove this restaurant, going back tomorrow.
Delia Crawford3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA little Paris in SFWe loved Cafe Des Amis. It was like being in Paris without the travel time and headaches. It looked Parisian. The service was attentive without hovering. The food was some of the best we've had. We will definitely go back--probably before our next trip to Paris.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for francophiles,Perfect for francophiles, it feels like you are in Paris!! Having lunch there today again. My new favorite place in my neighborhood.
Delia Crawford3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLively bistro fareThis is a comfortable place with a lively bar scene and several seating areas (wood tables and banquettes) that always seems to be popular. Butter lettuce salad is consistently good with a tasty tarragon dressing. My sea bass was luscious and my husband enjoyed again the pate, the beet salad and the gnocchi parisienne with brown butter, the latter not earth-shattering, but quite acceptable.
Our waiter assumed we were new to the restaurant and unsophisticated diners; it would have been better if we had more correctly or graciously assumed the latter in both cases!
This is a favorite place of ours!1/30/2013 12:00:00 AMsince opening this restaurantsince opening this restaurant has done an amazing about face!all of the wrinkles have been ironed out. service is supreme. menu is great and food is delicious!1/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
